I'm gonna be a right and total arse and say how lucky I am to have been 17/18 when they burst through the fugg of late 80s/early 90s British music at a rime when we didn't know if we were still indie guitar, rave, dance, pop... The Stone Roses were unique; Screamadelica was a unique LP; Blue Lines couldn't have been amde by anyone else outside of Bristol; Teenage Fanclub were tuning their guitars in a beautifully skew-whiff way...and then came Ride. Kids with guitars, loud, loud guitars but with melody and harmony. No one played like them, no one sang like them, no one built a wall of sound like them (Ok, apart from MBV). None of us knew which way to listen - dance, guitar, hip-hop (don't ever say trip-hop), rave, distortion, beats... The mix was heady. Add in you know what and it was surely the greatest period of music. Everyone says the late 60s, hippie etc etc but, I dunno.... 88-92 was an incredible time. Enjoy them!
Ride is truly something special. I discover new bands every now and then but from the moment I discovered them (around 2015) I keep hoping to find another band that creates such an impact in my imagination like they did.
As a long-time RIDE fan, this moment was so worth the wait! Big THANKS to Amoeba for catching up with Steve and Andy, but even moreso, a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Queralt and Mr. Bell for accepting the request, invitation. Absolutely thrilled RIDE are back!!!
Fell in love with Ride and Depeche Mode around the same time (Nowhere + Violator) in high school, so it's really gratifying to see Andy go for Violator. Alan Moulder is an absolute genius! Love his work!
I love it because it's a great way to find out about music you'll probably like. You find a Whats In My Bag of a band/musician you love, and then you write down the albums they chose that you haven't heard. Awesome way to find new music catered to your tastes
Ride changed my life just a smidge less than the Smiths. Sadly by the time we really settled into the Shoegaze scene here in the states it was over and the bands were gone. Such was the accessibility back then. I hate that I still feel like I missed much of it. I got to see Ride once. Still in love with them and need a new RIDE T shirt. Hard to make them last 25 years.
Dint know Ride had re-formed..Loved them, back in the day...still got "Nowhere" on vinyl, had "leave them all behind" on cassette, played it til it snapped! I'm a middle-aged dude now. Not up on music scene!
Saw the same show in Boston! Amazing gig. Especially for someone who had been a fan of the record since it came out. To see it played in order so you knew exactly what to anticipate was so unique. Missed my 1 chance to see Ride in 1990, but this was the third time I have seen them since the finally reunited. Great to see them enjoying wider appeal reaching a younger audience.
I saw Mark trying to get back on the tour bus by gently tapping on the door. He stood patiently outside in the cold forever until another band member came along, gave him a disgusted look, and banged hard on the bus door. Mark scurried in on his heels. His personality fits his voice!
Yes, that whole album is great. The CD's been stuck in my car for years. I always come back to it. It really is frustrating that grunge overshadowed shoegaze, but lately shoegaze has been making a comeback. I guess it was too far ahead of its time in the 90s.
Boudosaved I agree! Nowhere is actually my favorite album of all time. I have a Nowhere t-shirt that I wear to gigs sometimes and I get a lot of compliments on it, which is nice to see that they are being recognized here in the states now so much!
I wish they would play in L.A. I just saw Brian Jonestown Massacre and would love to see Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Spiritualized, Cocteau Twins, MBV, JMC, Spacemen 3, but what can you do...
They may be one of the most popular but yet I still never hear about them from main stream artists. While I think it’s cool that Ty Segall and John support each other it would be cool to hear someone like The Strokes be like yup we love them.
Been listening to Ride since the first EPs, loved seeing Derrick Carter and Godspeed - both of whom Ive also followed my whole life and never thought the boys would listen in those directions.
I love this band and enjoy their comments about each other's choices beginning with Andy calling Steve a wanker for going first. Steve's Cocteau Twins story is hilarious.
Man these guys have such incredible taste in music. Discovered so many great artists from this video. Myrkur is amazing! Also had no idea Alan Moulder mixed Going Blank Again. Knew his work from mixing NIN but had no idea about the Ride connection. Great to learn something new.
I used to play Ride EPs on 33, especially the song Nowhere, and I too maintain it works just as well at both speeds - even better because it lasts longer.
I remember the first time I came across an LP that was cut at 45, I played it and it sounded like demons, really freaked me out. That LP also came with a demo of another band that was printed on a “Flexi disc”, let’s just say that day I was questioning everything I ever knew or thought I knew
This video was the first time I heard of an LP "cut at 45." I had quite a record collection at one time but all my albums were at 33 rpm and my 45s were at 45. That's weird. Not sure why they would do it. Not enough songs on the album? I love the fact that he related his mishap at playing the 45 LP at 33rpm. I would've done the same thing. Come to think of it I actually had Victorialand but on cassette. Cheers.
For the albums choice, I’ll have to go with Steve here, great taste and selection! And in my humble opinion, modern bands like DIIV can never beat the greatness of Ride in terms of songwriting and creativity.
jeshkam Interesting... Its just that SoFaD is my favorite of DM (I base my least/faves on the percentage of songs I enjoy on an album), and one reason for that are the dreampop/shoegaze like sound walls in songs like Higher Love, Walking in My Shoes, etc. Though I liked this album long before I found out about SG, so I see it as a gateway to my love of that genre.
Maybe so, though I havent listened to them that much. However, what Ive heard of them sounds a lot more like dreampop, which was one of the major influences on what became shoegaze. If you are interested, check out these songs: My Bloody Valentine - Soon, To Here Knows When, I Only Said; Slowdive - Allison, Souvlaki Space Station, When The Sun Hits; Chapterhouse - Treasure, Something More. If you like these, and want more suggestions, just say so.
Jesse Mullen I suspect that it was filmed in late September 2017 since Ride was near LA then for shows at Masonic Lodge in Hollywood and Music Tastes Good Fest in Long Beach
I discovered RIDE only a year ago but since the first second they hit my ears, I was hooked. holy shit. They are incredible
Welcome!
Damn I discovered them last december! Love the feeling of finding new great bands.
I'm gonna be a right and total arse and say how lucky I am to have been 17/18 when they burst through the fugg of late 80s/early 90s British music at a rime when we didn't know if we were still indie guitar, rave, dance, pop... @@anthonyherniman6332 not an arse , that's really cool you got to experience that. Thanks for sharing.

I jam Ride’s ‘Nowhere’ album to this day!
Fell in love with Ride and Depeche Mode around the same time (Nowhere + Violator) in high school, so it's really gratifying to see Andy go for Violator. Alan Moulder is an absolute genius! Love his work!
Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins and DIIV? Ride is WINNING
I know some people give these a thumbs down, but I don’t get it - there’s always always always something to enjoy about these clips!
I love it because it's a great way to find out about music you'll probably like. You find a Whats In My Bag of a band/musician you love, and then you write down the albums they chose that you haven't heard. Awesome way to find new music catered to your tastes
The 33RPM Cocteau Twins bit is good
I admit that I did this too. I was unaware that certain LPs should be played at 45RPM, thought I knew most 12" singles were. Oh dear.
Cocteau Twins at any speed are good, it just change the type of drugs you thinkk you are on while listening
Have seen them opening for PJ Harvey with Pulp, back in the days.
Ahhh! This makes me so happy! Seeing Ride live was one of the best nights of my life. I can't imagine what an honor it would be to be on this list.
Still holding out hope for Jim and William from Jesus and Mary chain, I will now pray to tlaloc for this to happen..

I'm still in love with them and need a new teeshirt. I love that!
Very likeable guys. Great taste in music too.

Check out there new stuff, it's great. Weather Diaries is one of their best albums ever.
Saw them last night in Portland, Oregon. Played Nowhere in its entirety. They were sublime.
Love seeing these guys still passionate about discovering new bands. It makes sense that they’d like Diiv.
I saw them live in Adelaide Australia. Brilliant.
I saw Mark trying to get back on the tour bus by gently tapping on the door. He stood patiently outside in the cold forever until another band member came along, gave him a disgusted look, and banged hard on the bus door. Mark scurried in on his heels. His personality fits his voice!
My friend is a huge Ride fan and his favorite song of all time is Sennen. It's amazing. Check it out.
Boudosaved Sennen and also the song Today off the same EP

Boudosaved haha I just saw BJM last month too. My friend was going to see MBV in Philly, so jealous
Finally! So good to hear someone likes thee oh sees! So underrated and good! Get John Dwyer on here!
John Wertin it would be great to see a john dwyer episode
Absolutely!
Are you kidding me? They're one of the most popular indie/ psych/ garage rock revival bands around right now.
Andy's guitar on Vapour Trail...
Slowdive pleaseeee !!!
Love Andy Bell’s taste in 🎶 Mac Demarco, DIIV, Depeche Mode (Violator), & The OC’s all aces!
I love this band and enjoy their comments about each other's choices beginning with Andy calling Steve a wanker for going first. Steve's Cocteau Twins story is hilarious.
So cool seeing someone finally talk about Godspeed!
I love Andy Bell, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have gotten a hug from Liam Gallagher back in 2006. 😁🤗
That’s actually really cool! Is a Liam a nice person many say he’s amazing with fans
@@LG_X Liam was okay, a bit right around the edges but he wasn't rude. He refused to kiss me on the lips when I asked, which is understandable. Lol
@@forgottenpalace4472 yeah cus that’s f**king weird yo… maybe it’s you whose rough around the edges
@@fredsystra7584 I am very rough around the edges.

This is the first WIMB video where i pick almost every record they talked about to listen to them. Thank you RIDE.
I used to play Ride EPs on 33, especially the song Nowhere, and I too maintain it works just as well at both speeds - even better because it lasts longer.
Best guitar band ever
These dudes are rad
Steve cooked me breakfast one time. Great, great guy
Love you guys and Amoeba too!
Gonna go try that out with my Cocteau records now. Thanks Steve.
how the fuck did I not know they did this? this is one of my favorite bands
The song Sennen by Ride is my friend's favorite song of all time. Ride will be at the Wiltern on January 5th.
Leave Them All Behind.... GREAT song to ski to, with a little buzz.
Ah Ride - takes me back
love the god damn cocteau twins
thank you for this gem!!
Alright, Steve and Andy let's here that Abba cover.
Only ignorance laughs at Abba, their genius is what it is. Haters be gone...poof...
seekah1
No one listens to Abba by choice surely. This guy is taking the piss
#fact
Anyone who hates ABBA is just trying way too hard to sound cool.
Yes!
Up there as one of the best pop groups of all time.
Great guys and great taste! From Abba to the Oh Sees👍🏻
LEGENDS
Really cool dudes
Top boys top choices thanks a load!

All love to Steve for showing love to Kendrick. Real recognizes real.
That's funny about Victorialand I actually did the same thing, played it at 33 numerous times before realising it was a 45.
And me! Taped it at 34rpm and listened it like that for 20 years… When I found out about it I tried it at 45 and didn’t like it 🤪
Steve's selection amazing also Andy's
Steve shines here. Awesome guy
Does Steve ever age?
Neil Arkins they keep him Box Fresh😄
For the albums choice, I’ll have to go with Steve here, great taste and selection! And in my humble opinion, modern bands like DIIV can never beat the greatness of Ride in terms of songwriting and creativity.
Love these guys.
I did the same thing with Victorialand. It can work both ways.
I really like Andy from Oasis. Always try to get new album recs from these videos, but I already recognized both. I hope he enjoyed Watchmen
David no....Andy from ride...lol
"I do maintain it works as well" 😂
I knew they’d make great album sections.... cos they’re a great band themselves
Yes Psychic TV!
Diiv ♡
Sharon Van Etten - great choice. Mac DeMarco too. Ride fan since the early days. Saw em twice. I thought they were the next British invasion.
We Luv Ride
The eternal Depeche Mode strikes again
I do think he should have chosen Songs of Faith and Devotion, though.

You had me at ABBA.
ABBA really are incredible.
Not for me.
My mate T worked in a record store too same with me
DIIV... "How Long Have You Known?"
Nice taste mr. Andy Bell
Andy Bell rules
i ve heard "the big ship" from Eno in several movies and documentaries in the last few years. but can't recall either.
Ludo Chem It was played in the film ‘Me and Earl and The Dying Girl’
no one on here's shown off Myrkur without stumbling thru the pronunciation lmao. Andy with the Carter selections! so sick.
Can definitely hear the Robbie Shakespeare influence at the latter half of the "Time Machine" intro....always wished the intro was a standalone tune 😁
That Andy likes Thee Oh Sees, completed me, musically
Great to see Depeche Mode in their choice.
Interesting choices lads
Finnaly! i fuckin love Ride! Fuckin top band! Andy B was great in Beady Eye n Oasis n Hurricane.
Of course Andy B was great in those groups. He's the best "guitarist" there lol
Myrkur & Gospeed? Works for me! :)
Was this from 2017?
Hal9000ize it was from your rectum
Yes, it was filmed in 2017.
Probably August, since Andy mentions it was his birthday
Jesse Mullen I suspect that it was filmed in late September 2017 since Ride was near LA then for shows at Masonic Lodge in Hollywood and Music Tastes Good Fest in Long Beach
So I'm seeing RIDE on Wednesday then in two weeks Diiv. October is a cool month haha
v happy they picked Oshin :))
I'd point them to Sun Dial's "Fazer" EP
Hi. This is a typical comment on how fast I clicked this video from Germany. Danke und viel Spaß
0:13 song name?
Keep it Surreal
Anyone know what the first and last tracks are in this video?
9:39 What's the song at the end? I thought it might be Ride, but the vocals don't sound like them.
It is. New stuff is great.
From Weather Diaries? Which song?
ua-cam.com/video/PtMx316Vpvw/v-deo.html Pulsar from Tomorrow's shore EP
Awesome! Thanks!
good stuff I need that new godspeed record
so neat to see some guy and the bass player from oasis talk about music!
great! congrats!
Pleeeeeaaaasseeee bring on Khruangbin!!!
Toto and ABBA are two bands everyone is embarrassed to love.
What’s the tune they play right after Andy and Steve introduce themselves? Dying to know...
Their song Pulsar
Absolutely fucking based, Cocteau Twins is god-tier, especially Victorialand
Never knew he got his old band together
The cover of Nowhere is my screen saver.
what's the credit song?
Oh my god they were so changing our lives. I still can’t see them going to the bathroom
*black metal, Steve.
That's what I call an ecletic collection!
💓
Ha CTs Album = I played it at the wrong speed as well in the 1980s.
Ian Watkins - What's in My Bag?
10 copies of just Lolita and nothing else??
