  • Watch brain coach Jim Kwik sharing study tips and tricks for you to study effectively and without distractions.
No matter what age and stage you’re in, sometimes you’re presented with a situation where you have to learn a lot of information in a short period of time. Maybe it’s for a sales call, a last-minute meeting, or an unexpected test. But once you give the presentation or take the test, what happens to all that information in your mind? It usually disappears.
In this video, I will go over simple techniques to help you study large amounts of information quickly, effectively, and efficiently. There’s a difference between studying to remember and cramming to forget.
Listen in as I give you some Kwik Tips on learning anything faster and retaining more information. Whether you’re going for a degree, are a parent looking to support your students, or are simply a student of life, this video is for you.

I 100% agree with the fact that you have to be in the right environment to learn/study efficiently. I have experimented a little with this and discovered that my work desk at home seems to be the worst location for me to learn in. I've found that being inside my university library in a quiet spot is where I am most effective at learning and studying. A second spot I found outside on some timber benches where I'm in the shade and still close enough to a reliable internet source and a power outlet to charge my laptop. Other places I've tried were the dinner table and working in my ute. There are limitations when working in my ute due to lack of space and it's awkward to write in my book (but still manageable). The dinner table I found was the most suitable for doing sketching as it is a nice smooth, flat surface with plenty of room. However, it is still a position where I seem to get distracted easily.
One tip I really need to incorporate into my learning experience is to have set breaks. A new thing I've been trying lately is running a stopwatch to time how long I stay focused or how long I spend procrastinating. It's amazing how long small activities can take when you don't have time in your mind - very interesting! Now, that I have some idea of how long simple tasks take, I will now utilise a timer instead of a stopwatch. 45 minutes of study and 10 minutes breaks.
Thanks for your video Jim! It's very helpful and informative. Have a great day!

Take-away lessons: 1. Questions are the answers because questions prime our brain to focus on goals to follow through.
    2. Simulate the test environment as close as possible to match real test situations.
    3. Repetition without understanding or rote memorization helps only the recognition of the concepts and does not necessarily help recollection or retrieval. So undestanding and active retrieval is more important for test situations when we need to apply certain concepts, not just recognize them.
    4. Primacy and recency matters in learning. Concepts learned at the start and end of learning sessions are remembered the most.
    5. Procastination can be avoided by brief timed practices sessions interpersed with short breaks.
