If only all how-to videos were even close to this… Thanks for super informative and well-cut no-nonsense video! Gonna give this mod a try in few weeks to route the HX Stomp (and a volume pedal) using 4CM without sacrificing a ML5 loop being always-on.
Do you know if this is possible with the ML10X? I am struggling with some volume drop issues on my ML5 with some of my drive pedals... the ML10X could fix this (ML5 specifically has an issue with high gain pedals apparently) except I am having trouble figuring out cable path with a volume send & return as well as a pedal that is mono input and stereo return (JHS Emperor V2) when planning out a Ml10X board
This looks like a pretty useful mod! I wonder could it be done on a voodoo labs hex .....? It would make one into a handy 4 mono plus one stereo looper ....! Would also make it a brilliant add on to something like that boss es5!
Great question. Its called an 'insert' or 'volume insert' but you can just it for a bunch of things. You could use it for putting an always on pedal in between a predetermined loop. EG. You could put an OD between loops 4 and 5. You could also put your volume pedal between a couple of loops as well. Our issue in this case was we needed the pre-amp to be between two pedals that had to be inside the ML5. There isn't any way to do that unless you're willing to share a loop (2 pedals in one loop) which this artist wasn't. In short - you're adding an always on loop inside the ML5.
Its not unfortunately. If you got 2x ML5s you could potentially do this though! You'd have to send the left side to one and the right to another. I would recommend the RJM MEGX though... it's the ML5 on steroids with stereo re-orderable loops...built like a tank.
@@GoodwoodAudio Thanks so much for the reply, really appreciate that. I wasn't aware of the MEGX. Unfortunatly its out of my budget but apparently James of Morningstar, as you probably know, is working on an upgraded ML5 called the ML10X, I'm just not sure of release date though so I went with the ML5 for now. Thank you Have a good one!
Do you see a possibility of being able to mod this with some type of external LEDs? i/e if using this underneath a board to conserve space could you daisy chain/etc the LEDs to a 1590b type enclosure to see what loops are enabled?
Definitely doable, but it would be a frustrating one! And you'd need either multiple cables or a 6 line cable plus ground (and the correct plugs - maybe 7 pin midi plugs?) to do it. YOu want want to use very low current / forward voltage LEDs too... 3mm red perhaps.

appreciate you checking it out! Let me know how you go!
Cool video and thanks for sharing the work

I think with the ML10x you'd have to stick with original features...main reason is it's a matrix system - much more complex than this.

Great question on HEX. I haven't had to try that one yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it was doable though! Same goes for ES5.
When brand/part number is the TRS jack you used?

What’s the purpose of the volume insert? How would I use it?

First - thanks guys
Well done! ha.
Hey man, do you think it's possible to mod this for stereo send and return via TRS? Thank you!

@@robertgoodman1454 No problem! James is awesome. Glad you guys are connected.
