    I think your hair always looks great, even your short hair. The only bad thing about those old short hair photos is that you looked sad.
    ‘Hard water, ‘flakes, ‘coarse hair. I can totally relate. I tried the Tresemme Keratin products after your initial review. They are really good for coarse hair, but you’re right, it’s probably sensible to mix it up and use something else more stripping in between. Shampooing once or twice a week is probably about right for thick coarse hair, as it never seems to oil up. I often do a pre shampoo massage with a random oil mixed with rosemary, and that seems to help.
    I remember reading years back, that any new hairs grown using Rogaine may be lost if you stop using it. So I suppose you would have to consider whether you’d be committed to using it continuously.?
    Hope you don’t get the same Rogaine effects as the lady you were watching…Holly looking like something out of ZZ TOP in future videos would be a big shock to the system. :))
    Really enjoyed hearing you chat about your earlier life…The guy must've been mad, but you gals can really pick ‘em sometimes...Jk

      Aww thank you! I should have shared some happier photos, but I was trying to keep my son out of the pictures. I basically showed some of my after-haircut photos when I was not thrilled or not used to it yet. Thanks for sharing that about Rogaine. I think in the videos I've watched, the people said they didn't lose the hair that grew in. But, that's a good point. I am definitely not committed to using this stuff forever - just a short stint. So I need to see what happens I guess. With that guy - I picked the wrong one for sure. He was a motivational speaker of sorts and I had no idea that *some* of those guys are sometimes the worst - the ones who preach to others about how to be happy when they may be the most dysfunctional people out there. It was a good wake up call!

      @@LifeDIY Thanks for your reply Holly...Interesting point about the motivational speaker. Don't know if this applied to him, but sadly lots of men are solely driven by lust, and are easily led astray...Not all men are like that thankfully.
      On the thinning hair...It could be down to a number of things. I knew a lady that also used to wear her hair in a tight ponytail or bun, and she had some thinning in the exact same area you showed in the video. It could be something to do with that.??
      I couldn't see any thinning in your video, but we're all more critical/observant about our "own issues".

      Yes, that did apply to the motivational speaker guy, for sure. And, you're right about the thinning hair - I think it's from pulling the hair up so tight. I'll just see what happens with the Rogaine experiment!

    I love your chat videos! They're always so thorough and such good and realistic information/advice and confirmation to what I've learned/am learning about hair. And yes acid is so good for hair and scalp! I make my own formulations, but I always start and finish (rinse) with acid lol. I would love to try fat injections into the scalp to combat sparse areas... Rogaine doesn't scare me, but I heard it only works when you're using it. Anywho, your hair is a dream! And that hairline of yours is killer imo.

    That keratin tresemme shampoo/conditioner caused hair loss and contact dermatitis in my hair. I asked a cosmetic chemist what it was about that product and she said it has common preservatives in the ingredients that can irritate the skin and thus cause hair loss. It was a shame because I loved how it made my hair feel. I think DMDM Hydantoin was one of the irritating preservatives but the internet is split on whether it does or doesn't.. I just can speak to my personal experience.

    Yea, best advice I've heard about dry scalp/dry hair is to just not wash your hair as much. Once folks I've known changed to washing every 3-4 days or even like a week, it became far better. Obviously is hard to determine, especially after a hard day's work but that's what I've heard.

    I think it's a pretty common reaction that a lot of women have after a breakup, to so something. I once got my ears pierced and then on another breakup, got two more pietcings...pretty much part of the process I think. One thing I do for an itchy scalp which is really effictive is to mix 1/4 - 1/2 cup of ACV (with the mother) with a cup or a little more of water. I do it after a shampoo but before I put in the conditioner. It's cheap and very helpful! I've used that Shea butter product too and also love it. I've used it like a pre-conditioner (like Olaplex); just get your hair damp, coat it with the product and leave it for half an hour or an hour and then go in for the shampoo. Fun video, and I love your hair!

I never really thought about that as another thing people do after a breakup. :)

    I watched one of your other videos about changes in sleep and dealing with various health problems. It got me curious if you’ve tested your vitamin D levels?
    Hair loss, nightmares, low mood, low energy, vertigo, eczema, psoriasis and many seemingly random symptoms can all be attributed to low vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency isn’t talked about enough for how common it is.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks so much for sharing this. My levels were "ok" the last time they were tested, but I am definitely going to check back to see. I try to take vitamin D3/K2 at least 3-4x a week. I get no sunlight here and I know it is so important.

    • @blooey2
      @blooey2 10 місяців тому +1

      @@LifeDIY cool sounds like you’re on top of it! I also really don’t get enough sun where I live in Canada, so for me that means supplementing 10,000 IU D3 daily through the winter months and 5000 IU D3 daily the rest of the year.
      Now that I’ve researched heavily and have started testing 25 OH D levels, I’m realizing how inadequate my supplementation was in the past. Given the modern guidance aims for blood levels of 50-100ng/ml. With testing maybe every 3-6 months to avoid excess (150ng/ml or higher).
      Also, I’m sure you know this, but make sure you supplement adequate magnesium with vitamin D. D depletes magnesium, and magnesium itself plays a big role in quality sleep. Pair this with 100mcg K2 for every 10,000IU D3.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  10 місяців тому +1

      This is a great point. I think I will try to get my levels tested more often. I'm sure even if my level was "normal" it was likely not in any optimal range. I have been supplementing with magnesium daily, so I'll keep that in mind and make sure my son gets it too as he's taking D3/K2 as well. Thank you!

      Sorry that happened! Hair dye is pretty powerful and I never had a second thought about it years ago when I used to use it regularly. But, in addition to what you experienced, there's also research saying that it increases your risk for skin cancer. I want to do a video on that in the future.
      I did some more research on any studies but there's so little data on supplements or vitamins for hair shedding/growth. I read that vitamin A (retinol) is important, in addition to the other standard ones like zinc (this is important for hair and skin). So I was searching online for a retinol spray product for the hair. I need to keep looking around. I found this website and I don't have any experience with their products, but I found that they have a spray www.forhers.com/hair-loss/hair-growth-spray for hair loss, and it looks interesting. You are so welcome! I really hope you find something, or you can try out minoxidil. :) I hope you keep me posted on it! And, hopefully there are some decent options for people who do want to color over grays or just color their hair in general. I know I may want that in the future too. I have used one product from Amazon and I didn't use it to color my hair, but instead more as a shine/gloss treatment. I had never done that before and heard good things. But, this product has numerous color options which can help with toning the hair or depositing color, at least temporarily. It's called dpHUE Gloss+ and I always like how my hair looks when I used it in the past. It's the closest that I've come to using a dye in my hair, though I would also be happy with their clear version. I think they say it isn't intended for coloring grays, but some people say it's good for that too. I did notice though in some bad reviews that they said it made their hair fall out. :( So, that's not good. I want to take some time to do a lot of research on hair dyes and glosses like this and see what is "safer" or which options are better and hopefully I can share that in a video.

    Sorry, Holly, I wrote my previous comment about 5 minutes into the video. I've now listened to the rest of it, and I was left with the sense that you are a bit worried about thinning on the temples.
    Apologies for being flippant.
    Some really exciting breakthroughs for hair regrowth happening, right now, are:
    1) Stem-cell injections into the scalp. Some guys are getting almost miraculous results and reversing severe hair loss.
    2) Scube 3. Scube 3 is still in the testing phase, but again, it is injected into the scalp and looks pretty exciting.
    However, for the minimal loss you describe, platelet-rich plasma injected into the area would probably do it.
    I'm inclined to agree with the other commentor, though, that this could be a side-effect of the huge dietary shift. You body is getting up to all sorts in there.
    Just scooped the below out of some shorts here on youtube. The guy is a very funny gym rat who just had stem cell injections in his scalp. It's pricey, though. And I really don't think you're going to have a problem with hair loss:

      AG Hair Care has a really nice naturally scented (just essential oils) BALANCE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO and BOOST APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SILICONE-FREE CONDITIONER. My hair is fine and straight, so what works for me might not for you. I also make sure that I never put conditioner on my scalp, that tends to make it more prone to itching. I shampoo my hair and conditioner the lower half. Also, I found a supplement that’s helpful for lessening hairfall. Canprev Healthy Hair. I’ve tried other hair supplements, but it must be the millet seed extract that’s the magic ingredient. I find biotin and collagen didn’t help with hairfall.
