Walter. One of my heroes as a kid. Then someone I admired and respected as an adult. He was a good man, a righteous man and had a big heart and generous soul. R.I.P. SWEETNESS
This is just priceless. I don't see how Payton and Montana didn't lose it in this skit. Carvey was definitely on this night. My goodness! RIP to the late, great Walter Payton. Gone way too soon. He was a great sport in this.
How cool is that!?! Dana Carvey caught a pass from Joe Montana and got a high-five from Walter Payton! That's something you tell your grandkids about. Way to go Dana!
I was lucky enough to have been in the audience on this night. My girlfriend's father worked at NBC and surprised us with last minute tickets. As a big sports fan, I was thrilled to find out that Walter Payton and Joe Montana were hosting. A night I will never forget.
This has to be one of my favorite SNL sketches. The sexual innuendo was flawless plus Joe and Walter are getting suck a kick out of playing along 😊. RIP Walter. Gone far too soon.
My mom was in a car accident with Walter Payton. His car was hit and those cars hit the car my mother was in. No one was hurt, but my mom was hilarious. Oh my god, it’s Walter Payton! He was super chill about the whole thing. The only thing she regrets is she did not ask for his autograph, she thought it would be tacky.
I still have Walter Payton's "first 2000 yard football card. . I absolutely love watching this episode partly because Iam a 49er fan and these two were having a great time and both of them were very funny !
The church lady squatting in front of Joe Montana, this was so silly but I'm sure it was so fun, those audience members got to be on the show. Their dancing at the end made me giggle ridiculously!
These 2 were the definitive greats and class acts of football during the 1980s! I am from Chicago so huge bears fan but the 49ers were always my second team! They were so funny in this skit!
Dana is my very favorite and the Old Rodney is too!!! I still think I like Dana better. I actually had a Church Lady like that at St. THECLA SCHOOL IN CHICAGO years ago. And there was a music old lady. Named Pearl
@@pamygalla8404 Dana said he got the idea from some women at the Lutheran church his family attended. They didn't go every Sunday so the old ladies would say, "there's the Carveys. Isn't it wonderful that they took the time to come and worship our Lord.".
I remember watching that episode live. Seeing it today, brings back so many good memories. It makes me long for that simpler time period when Saturday Night Live was actually funny. Because the cast actually had Talent
Pamy Galla Frankly, once Carvey left it went steadily downhill, until a series of unfortunate circumstances and some awesome actors made it funny again a few years ago. Not that there weren’t occasional good skits, apparently, but I only know because they’re on UA-cam, as I stopped watching the show. Which reminds me, it’s been a while since I watched “Boy Dance Party.” Time to revisit. Oh, I also really miss “The Copy Guy.”
I was in line to get an autograph from Walter Payton back when I lived in the Chicago suburbs. People were shouting questions to him as they waited and I shouted "Is it true that you have Bible studies with other Bears players?" He looked in my direction and simply nodded. I give him credit for having the humility to participate in this skit where Christians were being mocked.
I've loved Joe Montana since he played at Notre Dame all through his career. Also Walter Peyton is awesome also!! Got both their rookie cards and wouldn't trade them for anything. Love the church lady!!
Wally!!! Two living legends at the time, the type of legends you liked just because they were so damn great. How great is it to see Montana and Payton laughing and you know Carvey remembers this sketch and talks about it a lot.
Dang, forgot how gorgeous J. Montana was!!! Where’s the sketch where he says I’ll be in my room playing with myself??? THAT was hilarious!!! RIP Walter Payton.
I recently heard an interview with Dana Carvey where he said he was nervous about performing in sketches at first and the only way you could tell was when he raised his hands, you could see his palms sweating. I just noticed that at 5:12. Wouldn't have guessed otherwise!
This was absolutely great, I wish we could just go back in time is the country and be the same way, without being censored or criticized by someone. We just had more fun then and didn’t care less. People need to get over themselves today no matter which side of the fence you sit on
No, you do not want to do that. If you were to go back, you'll be seeing things from an adult perspective, and very often we see things quite different as an older person than we did when we were younger.
1st letter from Redwood City, California, haha... right down the street from my Catholic school growing up... all us kids loved this skit from Our Lady Of Angels. Go 9ers!
2:44 and 4:46 - Well, isn’t that special? 6:31 - Oh! Oh, look, it’s Satan! Dana Carvey as the Church Lady was one of the greatest skits in SNL history, and my all time favorite.
I was a Walter Payton fan all my life, my cousin was a Honey Bear Cheerleader for the Bears during that time and my uncle was a Chicago Police Lt. who did security for the Bears and I met the players during the 80's and Walter was the nicest man, when I needed shoulder surgery he sent me to his surgeon who worked on him and his brother in Mississippi when they were in college. It was very sad him passing from cancer, he was a great person.
Hey Jan, have we got a role for YOU! You come out, spend a minute and ten seconds on stage, say three lines to set up Dana Carvey who then proceeds to get all the laughs before shooing you off stage. Whadaya say kiddo?!
A part of comedy is being the "straight man" for the goofy comedian. Jan's awesomeness helped make Church Lady even funnier. Plus her outfit was spectacular!
Jan Hooks, what an unsung talent and comedian. I'm so sorry that she had to endure what she did, and taken from us way too soon. RIP Jan!
Walter. One of my heroes as a kid. Then someone I admired and respected as an adult. He was a good man, a righteous man and had a big heart and generous soul. R.I.P. SWEETNESS

They did extremely well !!!
Sweetness…
You mean Wally and Joey.
I still remember watching Walter Payton at the auto show. My family would walk around and would just watch the Walter Payton Q & A
How cool is that!?! Dana Carvey caught a pass from Joe Montana and got a high-five from Walter Payton! That's something you tell your grandkids about. Way to go Dana!
Dana is a 49ers fan so that must have been awesome.
I'm sure he was more excited about the pat on the ass by Payton.
I was lucky enough to have been in the audience on this night. My girlfriend's father worked at NBC and surprised us with last minute tickets. As a big sports fan, I was thrilled to find out that Walter Payton and Joe Montana were hosting. A night I will never forget.
Thats amazing
Nice.
280z318i your so lucky ...I was 17 and a senior in high school
I AM NOT JEALOUS AT ALL
Wish I could have been, sadly though I had yet to be born.
I love Joe Montana trying to keep a straight face at the end while doing the dance
This has to be one of my favorite SNL sketches. The sexual innuendo was flawless plus Joe and Walter are getting suck a kick out of playing along 😊. RIP Walter. Gone far too soon.
Bring Dana back! Bring Church Lady back!! ♥️
Wish Church Lady met Father Guido Sarducci
What makes Walter Payton's line, "Well I try to penetrate any opening I can find" so funny is that he says it with a completely straight face!
This was fantastic. Walter and Joe did a great job and Jan and Dana always hilarious.
The Satan Bowl... That was my favorite Church Lady show. The greatest QB and greatest Running Back of all times on the show.
One of the best church lady's sketches
my favorite is the one where she busts out a drum solo.
The music combined with that “Superior Dance” gets me every time!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My mom was in a car accident with Walter Payton. His car was hit and those cars hit the car my mother was in. No one was hurt, but my mom was hilarious. Oh my god, it’s Walter Payton! Awww, your mom's a lucky lady. He was our hero growing up. I'm so glad she wasn't hurt.
I still have Walter Payton's "first 2000 yard football card.
.
I absolutely love watching this episode partly because Iam a 49er fan and these two were having a great time and both of them were very funny !
Church lady was the best! SO funny! Joe Montana can't keep a straight face. LOL
I know, he kept crackin' up. 😄
Seeing walter payton alive is the best part of this
Mr. Sweetness
And Jan Hooks as well. Now they're gone.
His daughter Brittney does local tv in Chicago. She is a good girl and he would be so proud of her today.
Amy O ml
Nlll
The greatest all-around offensive player I ever saw.
Church lady was one of the best sketches ever . . . Though there were so many in the early days!
The church lady squatting in front of Joe Montana, this was so silly but I'm sure it was so fun, those audience members got to be on the show. Their dancing at the end made me giggle ridiculously!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had never seen this skit before. Football Legends Walter Payton and Joe Montana On Church Chat

Too bad he never had his own show....oh, wait.
Joe Montana and Walter Payton were certainly good 'sports' and pretty fair comedic actors too!
The Church Lady is one of the all time greats of SNL
Love how joe and Walter struggle to keep a straight face 🤣
🥰 I loved seeing these 2 having fun & making the kind of jokes & inferences that they did. 💙🙏🏻💜
Football players performed the superior dance better than any other guest Church Lady has ever had. Lmao!

Seeing WALTER looking so healthy here knowing he would be gone so young is so sad.
I didn't even remember this sketch. I clicked because of Sweetness. Man... He was amazing to watch.
He was so happy here, so healthy.... RIP WP
Agree. And wonderful sketch. Rest in Paradise Walter. 🌞🌅🌄
@@johnrotuno1077 The best sketch with walter from this SNL episode was when he did an impression of Michael Jackson
@@jojopuppyfish i NEED to see that!
SUPERIOR DANCE TIME!! "HIT IT PEARL!!"
Imagine if Walter and Joe were on the same team. Sheesh.
Dana Carvey was SO good at making faces AND keeping a straight face. I miss Church Chat, and Wayne's World...
Yes. . I MISS THEM SO MUCH TOO!!

DravenGal me too😜
The arched eyebrow around 4:39 is masterful.
I love this sketch. Joe Cool and Sweetness can't help but laugh. Dana Carvey was GOOD.
Payton has a very sweet spoken voice. He was good looking too
Well he was nicknamed "Sweetness".
Church Lady made a good catch of that pass from Joe Montana.
She sure did!
Sign her!
never seen this before.halarious .had me in stiches.
Now Joseph don't get fresh with me hahahahaha
Life long football fan and Walter Payton is my favorite. He was amazing!!
RIP Jan Hooks.
And Walter Payton
You have to love those '80's sweaters!
"Well, we certainly know how to paint a picture with words, don't we, Wally?"
When you need to find the best way to describe football; please refer to this video 🤣🤣🤣
Wild Side Or George carlin
Or George Carlin football vs baseball
Jan Hooks… RIP. What a great talent. One of the funniest women to ever grace this show.
Bulbous naughty place 🤣

Walter had such a soft voice but just a vicious style of play as a running back.
Yes but the geto has to show itself just like the devil.
I miss u church lady!😇😈
Oscar salgado - Catholic why???
Well, isn't that special?
Stage of REAL Legends! Greatest QB, WR And 1 of SNL Greatest EVER!

I would love to see this as a film. Dana Carvey needs to go start production

Payton's sweater is an artifact of the 1980s.

Jan Hooks : Legend !
I've loved Joe Montana since he played at Notre Dame all through his career. Also Walter Peyton is awesome also!! Got both their rookie cards and wouldn't trade them for anything. Love the church lady!!
When it was worth your time to watch SNL!!
That was NEVER!!!! Anybody who watched a second of SNL wasted that precious second. Now you hate SNL because it ruined your life.
She reminds me of my mom’s church friend Denise: always having a opinion about everything and talking about church 💯
"Now Joseph, don't get fresh!" ROFLMAO!
Jan Hooks was so brilliant, especially the Sweeney Sisters sketches..
Joe Montana barely holding it together had me pissing myself 🤣😂

That's a great skit I was a big Walter Payton fan

So THAT'S why there are so many pictures of Payton with the most infectious smile
Theyre all tall men, he's right up there with them. Smiles.

My childhood idol.

Dana Carvey as Church Lady was legendary! This skit was hilarious😆🤣

Been almost binge-watching these church chat skits! Church lady you rock!
Church lady should have held onto that football “she” caught from Joe Montana. Then have Walter Payton and Joe Montana to sign it. Wow $$$
