- Oh these "Kids Today" with their hair and their clothes... Bella and Ryan react to Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (1983). This timeless gem was written by Jim Steinman (Meatloaf) and topped the charts all over the world but, what will the "kids" think of it...

Come on, that's not easy when it's this video. 😂 It's one of the most relentlessly overwhelming music videos of all time. I'm pretty sure it was the original "literal music video" spoof.
The power in her voice is incredible....the creation of mood and the costuming ... it's a shame these kids really don't get it. But then, they haven't experienced much of life yet. They really are naive.

No... she was not falling in love with her students. Stop judging a song based on the video. And stop judging either the song or video when you've already decided you're going to hate it before you even see it. Also, it wasn't bad lyp syncing... the damn video and sound were not in sync. Get better internet access.

It's true. Sometimes I feel that some Americans often tend to take things literally and everything has to be understandable and logical. Art leaves a lot of room for interpretation and is food for thought. So the typical excuse not to make the effort to think is that they are just confuse or something is too creepy to pay attention to the essentials. And of course they take everything for granted.

Are you guys video critics-or music reviewers? This was the 80’s. Videos back then were extreme. The more the better. As far as the hair, if you knew anything about the 80’s, the feathered, the hairspray, there was nothing getting in there. I only watched because I thought you would be reacting to the beautiful music.

Full of messages and metaphors. Lastly back then it wasn't UNCOMMON like it is today for younger to date older! If you guys are disgusted by this THEN ya really gunna HATE "Hello" by Lionel Richie I believe his name is. That music video doesn't even HIDE the concept of the video. Smh

Let's start with the meaning of the song, originally the song was called VAMPIRES in LOVE and yes it's a teacher's nightmare having fantasies with her students, BONNIE was creep out with the directors idea and it's not bad lip syncing you probably had a delay when you saw the video.

Fact #1 Bonnie Tyler “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” is a song about vampire lovers and how they have to contend with loneliness and darkness. Its original writer (Jim Steinman is also meatloaf's writer on some of his biggest hits) was at the time writing for a school musical named Nosferatu in April of 1982. The original titles to total eclipse include "Come in the night" . Later it was changed to "vampires in love" because it was reported that Jim had written a portion of the song during a lunar eclipse (he had been working on the song before him and Bonnie began working as a team). Then they finally settled on "total eclipse of the heart". And so a masterpiece was born.

I've watched a ton of Bonnie Tyler reaction videos. In this reaction they criticized everything, missed the vocals, missed the meaning of the song, misinterpreted basically everything, didn't realize the sound and audio were at times out of sync. stay in school kids, don't make a spectacle of yourself.
Something else you have to consider is that music videos were still really new in the early 80s.
She had some of the most random & weird music videos you'll ever see.
Music videos then had little to do with the subject (the song). Try just the song or a lyric video.

Do they even have the music going while they are watching? Granted I made it like 3 minutes in and all I heard was complaints about the video and zero mention about the Bonnie's singing style, they lyrics, the instrumentation, the backup vocals, just nitpicks and complaints about how the video was shot.

The guys didn't even listen to the song neither her voice. You could show them a video without audio and their reaction would gave been the same.

Wow is this really how millennials think and process music? Glad I am not a millennial. Get a PC or laptop that doesnt use an integrated video driver and maybe it wont appear so badly out of sync
It was the freaky directors "artistic" view from my understanding. Bonnie probably didn't have the pull to simply say NO. The singing is on point so your sound must be off. The song was about falling in love, losing and falling apart. It had nothing to do with school boys.
We're totally screwed... smh... This was painful to watch these two.
Only Gen Z can turn one of the greatest love songs of all time into a song about teacher molesting students. How about actually listening to the song instead of overanalyzing music video?

Seriously, there are some comments here you should read for context, but I'll take the time to explain personally if you ask and are willing to pay attention & try to understand.

You've got to think a bit outside the box. Do you over-analyse a Tarantino film or a Banksy picture? This is the genius of Jim Steinman, who pictured a musical (usually involving vampires!) in every song he wrote. It's worth a look at the Bat Out of Hell Musical (based largely on the songs he wrote for Meatloaf, but also others he wrote for himself and Celine Dion) to get an idea of what he was thinking of in his song writing. The poor 'lip synching' is just poor video uploading by somebody. Without a doubt Bonnie could belt this out whenever she liked just like this but it's conceivable the video, like about 99.99% of every other music video, involved lip synching. However, the original video didn't have such a poor delay between sound and vision.
I've subscribed to your channel though as I respect the effort you're making in reacting to music from before you were born, especially when the different circumstances that existed then meant that different things were seen as 'acceptable' or 'unacceptable'.
