Love your videos! I'm in Canfield, so your information is sooooo useful! This is my 2nd summer with my bees, and I have so much to learn! I've not found a mentor, so you are one of my favorite go to's! Hope to meet you at the Youngstown Flea this weekend!
Those girls look good Brian. On a smoker that expensive they need a hand grip and a battery operated fan to blow the smoke out so you don’t have to pump the bellows.
Brian, it's the light. That's the secret. The first big hive has brood all the way to the top because of the light the queen can see through the moved boxes and the air. Please don't move full boxes like that. You're going to ruin your back and than it becomes much harder
I watch my back, had surgery on it when i was 35. Honest, I rarely stack boxes this high because of that. And, that is interesting. I did not know that the Queen will follow the light like that.
@@CastleHives so you and me are both with an operated spine. They secured two (how you call them) of mine together because I worked like that and one started to move in, to my stomach 😅. I could feel a hole under my fingers when touching. That's good with an excluder.. but you can see without it everything becomes an entrance and they like to put brood close to the entrance in this part of the year. It's actually their behavior when you think about it. Mine are selected to collect a lot of propolis right now in the dearth here and I gather alot exactly like that because they protect them self from robbing and l pass every couple of days and take the propolis off. Just by moving the top box like that.. and they keep closing the gap. I went long again. But my climate is a full month ahead of yours so they see it like entrances
That’s why they will grow so big you keep the excluder off they will build up let Her have free range don’t use a excluder they will build up good for winter
Granddaddy tall colonies!! Awesome!

Wowsers, you're fast 😂
Just wondering Brian, why wont you harvest any of that honey?(58 seconds in)
@@hamburghoney I'm leaving a super for each colony. Running singles, I'll save a box for each colony.
What kind of foo foo smoker are you using there?
LOL. . It is the new Apisolis smokeless smoker. I have a video on it, just a few videos back.
Did you drop your hives down to singles
Some of them, yes. That is my plan, to go with singles.
