I remember this like it was yesterday and how fired up I was in my living room, screaming at the TV along with Cowher. Great memory. Thanks for putting the clip up.
I think that was the special teams coach (Bobby April?) because you can hear him say it to Cowher before he hands him the photo. Sounds like the same voice, only much louder obviously.
So true😂😂 those kinda videos are entertaining but overbearing at times, especially when there’s a 1 min sponsor introduction for some nordVPN type shit 😂😂
Gordon McCarter’s granddaughter here. Can confirm that Cowher called him the next day to apologize because my grandpa didn’t throw the flag, his line judge did. He was an extremely fair official and kept his cool no matter what, proven here.
Cower is barking up the wrong tree-the official under the goal post tossed the hanky. I was a referee for high school, youth, NAIA Collegiate and Arena-the umpire and I count the offense, my deep officials count the defense, it’s that simple. Your grandfather was a GREAT referee and should’ve had at least one Super Bowl on his resume. Very few seasons was he not assigned a postseason assignment. So sorry you lost him 20 years ago-71 is 10-15 years too young. Hopefully you have many fond memories of him.
Your gpa was a legit ref. It was definitely his generation of officiating. After him soon came Ed Hochuli who shared similarities. And now, we have Ed's son, Shawn.
Classic Bill Cowher! He deserved to go off on those officials. That was a blown call. The Steelers had 11 men on the field at the time. The ref lost a game check cause of this error.
Bill was telling a ref “that’s the same guys we have out there”, after the penalty was announced. He knew if nobody came off, it could not have been 12 men on the field.
I love how the announcer literally counts 11 men and STILL acts like the call was correct and gee golly gosh, I just can't tell even though I LITERALLY JUST COUNTED 11 MEN.
Do you have a crystal ball with proof of that? No, I didn't think so. One single event can drastically alter results in the future, not just with football, but with anything in life. You have no idea what the score would have been if that call hadn't been blown.
@Christopher Pool - Sorry, I would if I did smoke, but I don't (cigarettes, weed or anything.) I think we all know you're just a butt hurt Vikings fan.
@Christopher Pool - Lol, you just admitted your bias. At least I would be honest and admit it if my team won a game on a blown call. I'd be embarrassed if I were you.
Funkey I'ma a big fan of your work. I was wondering if you had the 1999 opening day game against the Falcons? Been wanting to see that one for awhile now.
Not even a Steelers fan, but that is an absolutely inexcusable call right there. If players and coaches get fined for arguing with officials, then refs should be fined every time they make a bad call. That ref is lucky he didn’t get fired.
Sure but it wouldn't have been so good had you been in Philly... Because I am pretty sure you would have gotten your ass kicked and not have been so smug as you are now... In fact the last time Vikings went to Philly the fans had PTSD of how they got treated after they dressed the Rocky Statue in Vikings colors...
I love my Steelers and big fan of Bill Cowher!! That field goal did not make the difference in the game cause they got beaten pretty good by the Vikings and their running back run for a touchdown with one shoe!!
Lifelong Viking fan here. Can't blame him for being pissed. It was a bad call. I know I get pissed off when there's a bad call against the Vikings (there have been many), but it diminishes the win when there is a blown call against your opponent. Sometimes the refs just phone it in and don't really try. This is one of those times.
Lol- a debate about instant replay and the time it takes in 1995, and it took all the way up until a couple years ago to get the timing right, though still pretty controversial as a topic overall
Are you kidding me? For simply putting something in the guy's pocket? I admire Cowher for what he did. Did not physically hurt or harm the ref in any way, shape or form and stood up for his team. jbsmg, you may want to get a back bone.
No way Erik... Sometimes you have to do that to make a point. Now, if Cowher punched the ref or struck him in a violent manner causing injury, then he should have been sued & ejected. By simply putting something in the ref's pocket does not elevate to the level of needing to eject him.
@@ickster9709 Define contact. I simply saw a piece of paper being put into a shirt pocket. Do you have any specific examples of other ejections? Can you point me to any You Tube videos for examples?
@@ickster9709 What about a handshake? Where do you draw the line? Also do you have a video you can point me to as an example of another coach being ejected for something similar to what Cowher, or even less than what Cowher did?
It would have been great if the bonus FGA had been either blocked and returned for a TD or had been a fake and resulted in a Minnesota TD. True sportsmanship would have been not kicking but rather having the quarterback take a knee. The NFL would have hated that move.
I think Cowher would've gone Chernobyl by now if he had to deal with the modern NFL reffing "standard". It's a wonder a player hasn't cold clocked some of these clowns they got wearing the stripes.
This is one of many reasons for why I'm against instant replay. You don't get hillarious moments such as this. You get robbed of the human aspect of sports. We've gone too robotic as a society.
Announcer counts 11 men, but is so determined not to make the officials look bad that he pretends not to knowhow many after he LITERALLY JUST COUNTED THEM.
Cowher was right but he should have been ejected for that. Can you imagine a baseball manager or basketball coach touching a ref (or ump) and not getting tossed?

If there weren't 12 men on defense, why would you be proud of this clip??? Lmao.. I'm confused
😝
And we still have an ass hole Vikings fan scrapping on this one.... lol. Face it dude, it was a bad call

Good energy and passion by Cowher.

That was hilarious when Bill Cowher shoved the photo into the referees pocket. I was laughing my ass off!
He should have been ejected when he touched the ref.
The man got fined big for being correct! Instant classic Cowher moment and was amazing to watch live! SNU!
Damn I’d forgotten Jimmy, Terry and Howie have been together for 25 years. Explains a lot of their reaction to the announcement of his induction.
Almost 25, Jimmy coached the Dolphins for 4 seasons.
So glad that Jimmy Johnson is being inducted. It is a shame that Jerry Jones was inducted before Jimmy was. Shame.
In honor of his hof induction
Hold the refs accountable for their bad calls and fine them.
Two refs were fined for this incident.
But in all seriousness that call was ridiculous even as Viking fan
Hush now friend this is one of the few calls that went our way
Gordon McCarter’s granddaughter here. Can confirm that Cowher called him the next day to apologize because my grandpa didn’t throw the flag, his line judge did. He was an extremely fair official and kept his cool no matter what, proven here.
I always thought he was one of the best officials there was. His hands were tied and there was nothing he could do. I’m glad Cowher apologized to him.
He was a great ref…until you needed more than two hands to count.
Cower is barking up the wrong tree-the official under the goal post tossed the hanky. This is how it should be. A truly egregious BASIC CALL being botched should cost a senior ref their pay. In any sport.
