    numbers marked for repairs etc, if wagon derailed the tapper would look for the number so that on his report he would be able to give accurate details of repairs which would be needed on said corner.

    6 volunteers, 6 sanders, tea and biscuits you could get the top half of one side of the tank done in a day and all painted. Maybe try organising a viewers working party day in good advance notice? I really wish I was closer I'd love to help you plough on through all your projects.

      Even half that amount I think we could get one top half done!! It’s a struggle to find people who have the spare time / I need to know they will do a thorough job like yourself! If you ever get a day free, pop down!

    1-2-3-4 are the wheel numbers, to identify for reporting faults eg, no4 wheel hot box as well as recording repairs. No3 wheel, oil pad replaced….etc

    Fully understand you can only do a section at a time, it will look great, just keep chipping away at it, so it won’t rust any more at least. Keep us updated on the progress 👍

    Thing to use is a needle gun like used to clear chalk out of boilers, works great as a paint and rust stripper and far quicker than a sander and needing less bovver than a blaster. Blasters can be made from old tall propane canisters, couple holes for fittings, big hole atop for media and hooked up to air, I am sure the welders there could sort a decent size and use soda so any media is washed away with the rain :) Primer, red oxide is still the king for old wagons, prob the reason the paint lasted so well was due to red oxide that is the real stuff as nowadays its a banned product due to the lead content hence its nickname "red lead" but the modern stuff is pretty solid for primerwork.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  3 місяці тому +3

      I’ve just ordered a blaster to try so we will see what happens! I do have a needle gun too so I will try that as well. For this particular pannel the easiest thing at the time seemed to be to just sand it back but the next section I’ll try a different method!

      @@WardleRestorations Like l said good for you. Our local railroad museum closed because of the COVID bullshit. A small car is less expensive to restore than a big one. Where are you going to get the decals? HaHa! Maybe ExxonMobil might help you out with the cost of painting the car. Good will and all that. Good luck with your project. The reason why axle boxed may be numbered on a wagon is maintenance. If there is a defect in service with one of the wheels the crews need to note which one has the problem so maintenance personal can identify the one needing work

    i would like to see you fix it up so you could haul whatever is the most common type of fuel that your local club uses and rent it or loan it to the group that way they have a mobile fuel station, and eventually getting a second tanker with the second most common type of fuel, i am sure they would be thankful for this idea

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 місяці тому

      @@WardleRestorationsThat may be true, however I hope that you keep this idea in the back of your mind and maybe in the future when the Coline Valley Railway gets larger with more members and they have more Diesel or Gasoline/ Petrol powered locomotives and operate more often I am sure that would be helpful in the event somebody runs out or critically low on fuel. that is obviously after you have it thoroughly cleaned and properly fixed.
