The hardest thing is to have a client or athlete who is un-coachable and in a toxic relationship. It's hard to do your job well when a spouse or family member acts like a coach even when they are not seeing results. They hold on to loyalty instead of common sense. I wish her peace and good health. Such a shame.

I have always been of the firm belief that sometimes we allow people into our lives that do not serve us the best purpose. I appreciate that the man is her husband, but if he is not qualified for the task then he just isn't. It clearly has not worked for her and while before she had a team that could guide her she does not seem to have that at the moment. There is nothing wrong with saying hey this is not working and we need to revamp, if it means keeping hubby simply as hubby and finding a new team so be it. She didn't marry a coach she married someone who doesn't know his place nor respects her decision making as an athlete. ETH was world leading on virtually all her races to include winning at World's and the Olympics until her injuries. As he said and every athlete knows the greatest asset to your career is your health and a coach who knows how to get the best out of you. After watching a few races from last season and this it's sad to see she chose to listen to the obviously wrong coaching advice.

Stephen Francis means that Elaine didn't give him and MVP credit by not wanting to share that PUMA shoe contract money with them. Elaine had no problem paying 10% of that Nike contract because she was probably paying MVP less than $50,000 a year, but when Puma came with those millions, Elaine and her husband didn't want to share that 10% wealth, which probably would have been worth at least $250,000 per year to MVP. You often get what you pay for. Elaine didn't want to keep paying for an excellent coach and MVP team program that nurtured her from her teenage years to repeat double Olympic champion to save money, but at what costs? Under MVP she had a chance to three-peat as double Olympic sprint champion at Paris 2024, but I doubt that will happen now. Elaine should have shared the wealth with the people who helped her get the multi-million Puma contract. It was for so much money Nike let Elaine walk away because they were not going to match it. Bob Kersee is getting 10% of Sydney McLauglin's multi-million dollar New Balance shoe contract as her coach, so why should Stephen Francis be different?

Elaine Thompson-Herrah is such an accomplished female Jamaican sprinter that if she decides to retire at this time, her name would remain a household name when it comes to sprinting. In fact, she currently holds the record as being the second fastest in the women's 100m dash in a time of 10.54 secs. Furthermore, she is the second woman to win the sprint double (100m & 200m) in the same Olympic games, the 2016 Olympics in Rio; Florence Griffith- Joyner was the first to win this event in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea. Unfortunately, her career suffered some setbacks from 2017-2019 due to nagging injuries. Nevertheless, throughout the entire ordeal, Elaine persevered and went on to shut the mouths of the naysayers by defeating Shelly-Ann Fraser (the overwhelming favorite) in the 100m at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan in a time of 10.61sec. She later defended her Olympic title in the sprint double; becoming the FIRST FEMALE sprinter to accomplish this feat at consecutive Olympics, and the SECOND SPRINTER (male/female) in history to do this, following in the footsteps of the great, Usain Bolt. As if that wasn't enough, she went on to help her team win the gold medal in the women's 4x100m relay, all in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Half or most of the people talking don't really know, or can't identify what athletes go through, and that's why their comments are so INSENSITIVE. My daughter is an athlete, so I experienced the highs and lows of track and field first-hand. I've watched people jump on the bandwagon when she was healthy and winning; then, watched them dismiss her when she was injured and struggling. With that being said, my suggestion to many of the naysayers is simply this, first, let's be sensitive in our commentary. Next, remember Elaine's contribution to the sport; and more importantly, keep Elaine in prayer asking for God's guidance as she navigates through this difficult season in her career.

Mr Francis is a genius and he’s been here for over 40 yrs. Mr Francis is a big respectable man, he knows what he’s doing. I told ppl that she won’t make it in 2023 at all and I was right. Also I am praying that 2024, she will rise. Or she will go down bad. I'm happy to see this interview not only what highlights Elaine as a head strong person who some of the time doesn't listen, but i draw from this that Elaine is really an exceptional athlete who even throughout her injury prone career has some what managed to dominate the best. When Elaine doesn't do well and it's attributed to injury, people are always saying that's always the excuse when she doesn't do well. Now you've heard it from the mouth of her ex-coach that a fine tuned athlete such as Elaine is prone to injury, in fact injury has always been there but just properly managed. What Elaine now needs to do is get her injuries properly managed again and stop coaching herself because based on an interview i saw she didn't call her husband coach but said he oversees her training. So she needs to find herself a good coach and she should be back on top.

In my opinion, these are situations that can potentially devastate an athlete, particularly if they do not possess strong mental resilience. It is my hope that Elaine has the wisdom to not allow social media to influence her unduly. In this era, it seems as if everyone has an opinion! As with all stories, there are several perspectives, and we are currently privy to just one side. Although there may be some facts stated, ultimately, the decision rests with Elaine. In my view, a reconciliation with Francis could be possible, should Elaine choose to humble herself and offer an apology. Regardless of the outcome, my foremost hope is for her to overcome these obstacles and be fully prepared for 2024.

As a grown woman she made that choice. Hindsight is a hell of a thing, and in hindsight many of us fans and maybe even Elaine and Francis and company could say that perhaps too many bridges were burnt. However, all involved can still dedide that those same bridges could, can and should perhaps be rebuilt for the sake of giving a full and complete attempt at making history (break those impossible World Records), That is what I think is the professional thing to do, and the most powerful thing to do...not many people will have what it takes to do that, but there are definitely famous athletes who broke up with their coaches and returned to do the impossible (some are even from Jamaica). Good luck to Elaine and her loved ones. Keep believing ,and the Jamaican people will support you.

However, I don't think it would be a bad idea for her to acknowledge the contribution of coach Francis and the others even after all this time - we never know how life is going to turn out - never burn bridges, build them - you might have a need to cross it again because nobody knows how life is going to turn out!
