    Awesome video mate! I use only epoxy for my boards, I hate the smell of polyester resin. What you said about sealing the blank: don't do it. In time the board will delaminate, the sealing (q cell especially) won't allow a strong bond between the blank and the laminate. But if you still do it, make sure you seal the whole blank,otherwise you'll have different shades of colour on your board. Also,about your masking tape, gently press it with a spoon when you stick it on the blank. Works like a dream! Enjoy your time at the ranch, maybe the GOAT rides one of your boards! 💪👍

    • @jim5549
      @jim5549 3 роки тому +1

      I was going to ask about that too! The only board I've built followed a guide from over 10 years ago & it actually recommended a slight rough sanding for more "tooth". So I too am skeptical of the newer EPS sealing advice but by no means experienced or expert.

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the tips man. Yeah I’ve heard some seal it and others don’t so I figured I’d save the time doing it. The masking tape was driving me crazy! I pressed it down with the back of my razor but every time it bled through. Never had that issue with poly resin.

    Yew, sweet board once again. I’m currently working on an 8’6 with a black-ish bottom and rail cut lap. Really digging that black pin stripe down the stringer line. Also, glad you showed the relief cuts on the ends, as well the sanding of where the laps crease over before doing the inlay and top lam. Also how you addressed the bleed through. Wish I would have had those on the first two boards. By the second board, I starting figuring out, and to keep sanding until the creases were flat and be careful but not worry too much about the ruining the color and just make it flat. Hard to find any videos where they show those two steps in the process close enough to really see it. Keep up these videos, such great content. And KS’s wave?!? Sweeet, big timing now!

    A couple questions, please....
    1) On my next board (EPS & epoxy) I want yellow rails top and bottom with a clear bottom and deck. I will paint the rails with yellow acrylic before I start glassing. I know how to mask this off when the width of where I’ll apply the paint is the same from nose to tail (kind of like you did at the beginning of this video). Thing is, I want the area on the rails where I’ll paint to get narrower as it approaches the nose and tail. I was wondering if you can suggest an accurate way to mask off this taper so it’s even?
    2) Did you buy the black and white markers and pre-cut tape covers for the fin boxes at Greenlight?
    Your video are the best! Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and upload these.😀 Congratulations on getting to surf Slaters wave!🏄🏻‍♂️

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve never tapered off my cutlaps but I understand what your trying to accomplish. Maybe try measuring how far in you want the colored rails and mark them with dots and then pull your tape connecting the dots. The tape will help you get a more even transition. I used posca paint pens in this video. Each FCS 2 fin box you buy comes with two precut tape covers for glassing which is what I was using. Good luck!

    What is that little pen you use before glassing the top deck? (1:44) What does that help with? Also, is that just a permanent marker at the (2:30) mark? Do you think I should do a white tint on the top deck? I was going to try clear..have you tried going clear on the top? I'm going to glass a board with this same color scheme and I'd be stoked if it came out half as good as yours. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  3 роки тому

      Those are Posca paint pens. I just used them to clean up the color that bled through. You don’t have to color the deck with white, especially if your doing PU foam. This board was EPS foam and I didn’t want the texture showing through a clear coat. If your doing EPS you could also seal the deck to avoid using white.

    • @BendheimBoards

      I’m no expert but you want to cut before the board is cured but hard enough to flip. For me it’s around 1.5 hr on poly resin and around 3hr for epoxy. Not really, if I had to guess it’s gotta be the difference between EPS/epoxy and PU/poly. Never had these issues with PU/poly.

    Is this classified as a sanded gloss finish? Or is it just a sanded finish? Thanks!

    At what point would you put glass on fins on? Before or after hot coat?

    Always cut your fiberglass patches as a vee either in or out, never straight across as this creates a weak spot or breaking point
