I can't believe Toyota have rooted up the new Prado. Get the crap out of the boot, ditch Ad-blu, get the 150L fuel back onboard and give us an option for the tyre on the back door.

    • @mwat22
      @mwat22 5 днів тому

Some company will do it, you have to remember it's regulations that force Toyota to do this but because the policy or philosophy at Toyota is "how will the customer use this" it's much easier to modify or get round the problem than it is for cars like fords, Isuzu is also another good alternative. They do the bare minimum to comply and wait till the last so called minute to update thank them for that cause that's what affords us the large numbers of second hand 120-150 series that are found around and as people move to the new 250. It's a compromise as they say. The alternative is cutting all the 4x4s they make and making cross overs in place.

Toyota has many years to see what „best in class” is and they have missed the mark, yet the Toyota brand and reliability and its special place in Australia will still make it a winner. That’s despite some shortcomings like space in 2nd row (and third if you have that model, and Series 150 was better) and the lack of space in boot (the 48v battery should have been positioned elsewhere), volume control in weird spot, plasticky finish and slippery wireless charger space, lack of rear locker (compared to previous series)… and that’s just what I’ve observed when checking the Kakadu at a dealership

I don’t understand how you’d call that powertrain “pretty good” and not a massive step forward as if there’s even a step forward to talk about. Despite the new gearbox it’s a tad bit slower than the older 150 with the old six speed gearbox and now this weighs more about 200kgs and tows more from 3t to 3.5t.
I don’t see anything good there, it’s already weaker and because it will have to haul even more weight expect even worse performance than the 150.

From what I understand, add blue will never go away on SUV’s. it is a regulatory requirement and only commercial vehicles are exempt. My Everest has add blue but Rangers don’t. At the end of the day it’s not a big deal as iv never had to top it up. It makes it between services and is done by the dealer like an oil change.

What is in the air down under? All this whining from people who've been lapping up the toyota recipe since time immemorial.
    1) toyota is a value not luxury brand. Expect intentionally underpowered simple powertrains, cheap hardwearing components like interior plastics and outdated technology. They are the kings of constraint for the sake of reliability and longevity.
    2) Its 2024 everything is overpriced, who are they not to appropriately position their pricing according to the market. Yes there is a premium for that badge but it's not the end of the world.
    3) Your country is seriously regulated, a blessing and a curse. That battery has to be there for the mild hybrid technology (if we can even call it that) as well as the swarm of safety features to pass regulation now and far into the future. Unfortunately this ramps up weight, pricing and complexity.
Maybe just continue to buy Toyotas in astounding numbers quietly, find aftermarket solutions for the boot as you've always done with all other toyota shortcomings.
They are still as reliable as ever, dont kid yourselves. Once they sort out a few teething problems as expected they'll run forever. If they can endure Africa's potholed roads with dirty fuel, cheap knockoff parts, minimal service all while overloaded 2 to 3 times if not more what they are rated at and still outperform most things on the road they'll be more than manageable in Australia.

What has been missed in every review i've seen, Sam I hope you can do some research here. The achilles heel of the 150 is the computer chips positioned under the headlight, these aren't potted or have water tight seals so it can be VERY expensive to do a river crossing even below the recommended wade depth if the bow wave gets any water into these units. Given the replacement cost it's almost planned to fail. Has this been fixed on the 250?

  • @occyman

Poor review…After driving one…I can confirm it’s way more expensive, bigger but smaller inside, 200kg heavier on same old engine, hopeless rear boot with 60kg weight limit, 7 seat versions are just a complete design screw up. I took it for a test drive yesterday. Really wish it had a more grunty straight six or at least the V6 in the 300. At the very least I would have liked a model without the ad blue and hybrid system. Even the 2.8 70 series just feels like it has much more go of the line. Perhaps because it's ligter? It all feels overly complex. Most annoying the motorised boot at the back that is so slow and all that beeping. It's really really annoying. Wish I could get the Altitude with the manual tailgate of the base spec model. The space taken up at the back by the battery is also terrible.
From other videos I've seen it seems the AWD system is pretty useless. Will still need to use the more traditional diff locks to get through tricky spots.
On the flip side it's pretty well made and really nice inside.
Just not sure if buy it over a 76. Like I said it all just feels unnecessarily complex. Definitely made for city living.

That beeping can be turned down in volume. As for ad blue. I’ve been driving Land Rovers for 7 years now and they’ve had ad blue all that time. It’s not a big issue and you’re going to find it very hard to buy a diesel car in the future without it. Mercedes Benz have been using adblue for years as have most modern trucks. Just something that you’re going to have get used to in the future

Have they teamed up with a third party for accessories and upgrades like Ford & ARB
A few people I know are waiting to see. If they have not they will look else where, not being able to add accessories like to can with Ford and keep your warranty is a big deal for a lot of people.
Be interesting to see how the towing market reacts as the fuel range advantage the old Prado had is now gone.
    .
That double rear door has the potential for two sets of dust leaks.
Being a current Prado owner I am dissapointed as no meaningfull upgrade path for me.
The room in the back sort of points at their target market, unforunately does not look to be touring.

It will severely compromise boot space for parents with kids equipment on trips (Camp cots and Prams etc.). They now have to get trailers and roof boxes additionally for those family trips.

Amazing that Toyota seem to have gotten rid of the things that their customers loved about the old model and kept what people didn't like (powertrain??). People have been taking seats out of landcruiser wagons for decades to suit different applications. "...its bigger, its wider..." with a "...fairly significant price hike..." - but vs the outgoing model, it is heavier, reduced power/weight ratio - and due to that pre-school engineering and ergonomic disaster at the back, it is no longer as versatile and practical as the previous 2 Prados. ALL OF THIS could have been avoided if they had an engine to at least match the competitors. I owned and loved both the previous Prados for about 20 years in total - but this new one is a disappointment for reasons mentioned. "Last night's dinner warmed up" - sums up the new 2025 Toyota Landcruiser Prado. Disappointing.. :( Sluggish, Heavier (most likely fuel burner than previous model)

Heavier and slower than the old model, poorly designed rear seats/cargo area, and way overpriced. People will buy it because it's a Toyota, but I'd rather save 20k (on the GXL) and buy a top of the range Isuzu MU-x LST.

    It’s a 4cyl 300 series

Has a more modern infotainment / dash and placement of buttons plus extra USB in front. 300 was dated on the day it was released.... shame with 250 is the raised boot floor and slug of an engine. The US iforce max petrol hybrid would have been great except it also has the raised floor....gotta be a better placement of the battery in a huge 4x4...Big fail!

Terrible looking car 👎 LADA rear, too many shortcomings to make this worth the coin, Toy has for many decade's struggled to be any value for money purchase, good luck to the new owners, you'll end up being dissatisfied long term.

Exactly, the rear seats is a last minute change not planned for Australia hence the 12 month delay and now this.

@@willatkins9686 if we get rid of this Government can we get rid of these crazy laws around emissions. I’m not buying a car with Adblue needed. Toyota needs to bring out a full diesel Hybrid Prado.
