  • In Vegas, nothing is guaranteed. The F1 was a complete disaster for the city from a locals and small business perspective. Now, it looks as though the race may NOT be returning, which raises a TON of questions.

As a long time local, dealing with the tourist since 1978; the consensus from tourist and locals, the F1 WAS A BUST! I could go on & about the 'whys'; that would be a novel. Good video.

Paradise resident here. We usually visit the strip once a month but during the F1 I avoided the city center for six months, and in the process found a bunch of really nice places OFF the strip that we will be returning to. Thanks Vegas for opening my eyes to all the other great places OUTSIDE of downtown. YOUR LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Good riddance toF1, and stop the A's from building at the strip for that matter, use the Tropicana to build another resort or rebuild the Tropicana The A's ownership is a cancer, and the strip is under lots of traffic stress and I don't think it can handle much more that a baseball stadium will bring. Great video Steven!

Let the race leave. They had no respect or support for the local small businesses on the inconvience to the local population. Due to the bad traffic and high rates I would never come any time before or just after the race. They destroyed the strips appeal by covering up many of the casinos attractions. As you said only the big strip casinos that appealed to international high rollers did well.

Good. I went to Vegas 3 times during the construction of F1. NOT one local liked the event in Vegas. Only complaint I’ve ever heard by locals in visiting Vegas for 23 years, at least once a year………

I was there in mid September. They had just cut the Bellagio trees down I believe. It was a mess then. We tried to get from the Sahara to MGM grand for the buffet and traffic was a wall at flamingo. Cut to koval and it's blocked. All the way around to Tropicana to get in the parking lot who was free from the hack. Had a timeshare view at Wyndham which was half a block down but had to drive all the way back around to the airport road. That was just my lil experience and I love vegas. The strip is the main draw for the average visitor and F1 took that away. Only ones that benefited were the rich that don't live there. Opposite of the Superbowl that is off the strip.

I spent almost the entire month of December and the first few days of January down in Laughlin..Guess what..quiet..beautiful and no traffic congestion or homeless drug addicts all over the place. Plus..there are still places with $7.99 Ny steak and eggs specials! I've been done with Vegas and this is just another reason why.

I think the problem is that Vegas itself IS an attraction with year-round activities that draw people in, so obstructing that is different than cities whose entire income derives from the races.

F1 races are usually held on street circuits -- they have some designated tracks, but they're far less popular. Part of the appeal is being able to walk out of your hotel and walk to the track.

My ex wife was a travel agent in the 80's and 90's...and we went Vegas at least 10 times in the 80's...my favorite time for Vegas. We stayed on the strip and downtown and I fell in love with Vegas downtown. I liked the casinos there better and I liked the grittiness of the experience, as opposed to the slick impersonal strip. I went again after my divorce a few times in the 90's, and like Disney World, saw that it deteriorated and I enjoyed it less and less with each visit. The history of the city was being eliminated and everything had to resemble an adult theme park. I found it so sad by the late 90's I haven't returned and have no desire to go there again....and I loved it so much in the early to mid 80's. You couldn't pay me to go to that theme park city again. It's all about catering to people with big bucks and the normal people are left in the dust. As much as I loved Vegas, I find it sad that it's gone and replaced by theming with no meaning nor purpose.

The pro-F1 crowd called us ignorant, we didn't know how big F1 was, how much money it would bring to Vegas, etc etc but we knew... oh we knew.... the money that brought in went to the already rich as expected, and the little guys got hosed because no one could make it to their businesses from all the traffic, including the ride shares.

While I am an F1 fan and would like the LV Grand Prix be a success, it has to be a success for as many people as possible, not just the monied business owners in the casinos, hotels, etc. I have empathy for those impacted by the event, and it's usually those who have little power that get the short end of the stick. Maybe it's time for all involved to re-assess what F1 can be for the good of Las Vegas residents and the tourist industry. Liberty is so keen to expand its F1 footprint in the U.S., they should be willing to try and make some positive changes. Don't give up on the event - bring Liberty around and make them come up with a win-win solution. BTW Steven, love the new direction in your videos. I've been watching for quite a while now and it's nice to see the evolution of your product.

Could not have said it better. The event was priced well beyond the means of too many people. I am a huge Vegas fan, Race fan and an SCCA road racer/autocrosser so this event COULD have been the best of all worlds for me. But wow....just too much money for what it was. And it doesn't make sense for Vegas or F1 to handle the event this way. For this event to succeed, both Vegas and F1 need to create new fans. It isn't possible to do this when those new fans are priced out.
Regarding the need to do future road work (assuming the event continues) is doubtful. Race tracks are impacted more by weather AND the constant use by race cars. A temporary circuit in a climate like Las Vegas should hold up for a long time. Not at all like Road America, IMS, VIR, etc where the track surface is subject to snow, ice, summer heat and constant use when the weather is warm enough.

We met at the Cheetos Chapel during Superbowl week.
Cheetos rented one of our cars paid to wrap it and we parked it in front of New York New York.
People came by and took pictures with the car!
    That is what we DO!!
    We made money during Superbowl
AND LOST A LOT DURING F1 and the BUILD!
We have classic Rolls-Royce automobiles that the brides use for photo ops
We are not a LIMO SERVICE
We are a prop car service.
The couples get married and then have pictures taken 0:04
    Royal Rides Las Vegas
After dealing with traffic in front of the fountain sitting in traffic for an hour and 20 minutes to go from Flamingo to the hotel entrance NOT JUST ONCE BUT TWICE
We stopped driving on the strip or anywhere around the track
We turned down jobs if the brides wanted picture of them next to the car
UNLESS they booked rooms NORTH of the WYNN or downtown
    BOTTOM LINE
do we want to see F1 race back?????
    ABSOLUTELY F**kin NOT !!!!!!!!!
That comment my tick off some people
But until you know what it is like to drive a huge car in a 24-7 traffic jam that LASTS FOR MONTHS

Let the marathon go in other routes. Stop closing the strip for every little special interest. Please run F1 on a more remote route. Everyone wants to think Bellagio is ground zero. Use other beautiful venues like Mandalay Bay which isn’t right in the middle of casinos trying to conduct business. Keep the strip open. Please plan these events better.

The first time was in fact a huge thing to set up, repave and create barriers and bridges that keep people alive while 20 cars fly around the track. Now it's more modular...if they put stuff away in a controlled fashion. All of the light towers and stands have been designed. Pits are finished. As far as getting in free? It will get easier moving forward, taking down the bridge on flamingo was stupid because it really helped traffic keep moving.

With certainty the race will be held in Vegas this year. Court would overturn that in 2 seconds. Like it or not. Vegas is married to F1 for 2 more years

    • @NOTLeavingLV
      @NOTLeavingLV  7 місяців тому +2

What is there to overturn. If there’s no contract signed by the county commissioners.

@@NOTLeavingLV That's why I asked if LVCA was a government agency. Someone was kind enough to answer the question I asked you. If LVCA is considered a government agency and it executed a contract, how does the county commissioners saying that they did not sign a contract absolve them of any liablilty/responsibility?

Vegas Knights hockey arena was I think completely privately funded. And the NHL isn't in the top three of pro league sports.

F1 is not worth it. I have several friends who live in Henderson. Their drives to and from work were nightmares because of F1 construction and the event. One works in east Henderson and the others cross the 15 fwy to get to their jobs. I avoided visiting them in November when I had time off from work, because of F1. I live in California. I stayed away until around Christmas time. They only spoked negatively about F1 and what it did to the locals and cities in the area.

I hear your comment about the schools, but I don’t imagine people visit or move to Vegas for the schools, except maybe some college students going to UNLV. Certainly, the County/cities could have put mechanisms in place to priorities schools, but I think there priorities are on development, casino/resorts, retail, other entertainment. Things that produce a revenue stream into their coffers and the private sector investing in such. I’m curious, are there private schools in Vegas for the upper class/wealthy there?

To me F1 created way 7:12 more chaos for a short uneventful 50+- lap race. A lot of what you say is correct. The Vegs strip and downtown are a freak show at best. If you do come to Vegas, stay at the off strip casino resorts, Red Rock, Durango , Green Valley Ranch etc. Rent a Cara d drive to the strip for a day, evening trip that all you need, then go back to the peace and quiet of your resort.

Not only will I be staying away as a tourist during F1, but I will make sure to stay away at least three weeks before F1 too, considering all the road closers and extra traffic that I am anticipation.

As someone who has visited Vegas like 15 times, and also went to the F1 race this past November, I thought the event was amazing. The entire city was abuzz with F1 fans. Every where you went, there were fans spending money and enjoying what Vegas had to offer. Restaurants were overbooked, shows were full, sports books were booming. Yes, there was plenty of teething problems, and I hate that there were some businesses cut off by the construction that saw revenue losses, but I think as a whole it was a massive win for Vegas. Instead of looking to cancel what could be F1's premier event, the county commissioners should instead sit down with Liberty and work on a plan to ensure some of the money that comes into the city goes to local businesses and not just the megacorps. Maybe by bringing in local restaurants to do food truck-style vending at or near the track, or promoting F1 events or driver meet-and-greets at local stores, or putting some revenue share toward Uber/Lyft drivers. F1 in 2023 was the biggest sporting event of the year, far bigger than even the Super Bowl, and I think letting it go would be a huge mistake.

Was with you until the whining about the schools, the schools in Vegas are there because of the mentioned events in Vegas!!
F1 in America is not all that, Indy Car, Nascar are the big ones in America!
F1 handling of the event like blocking every possible view and charging stupid prices, screaming at people to move along, screw that, as long as F1 is in Vegas no thanks during that time frame.

F1 isn't going anywhere. The infrastructure is there now. It will be a much easier setup in the future. One week. Monaco does it. Spain does it. Aubi Dabi does it. I get the initial infrastructure was a pain for locals but in the future the money for you will be worth it.

I don’t feel people understand how the track here severs east flamingo from the west. They don’t build an overpass in a week and they are doing this every race. They don’t build three Storey tall structural steel buildings in those places, yet they do that here. They don’t block and disrupt the main industries in other places, but they do that here.
You’re likely right. It isn’t going anywhere. This is all just political posturing.
