    I am seeing a lot of questions about what happened. Basically, while they were flipping the bus back onto it's wheels, one of the chains slipped and the bus crushed Eddie Nicholson. We didn't know what happened while I was filming and no one knew it was serious until they made the helicopter announcement.

    • @morgfarm1
      @morgfarm1 3 роки тому +7

      I actually had to look for what might have happened -- the only thing that had changed was the bus that had rolled was now on its door, given that the staff worker was a tow truck operator, it took me all of 2 seconds to work out that either a chain slipped, or it snapped. That's quite unfortunate. I don't want to sound unempathetic or cold, but, I mean, what does one say about a situation like that? *checks video date* Especially 7 months after the fact. It hurts that it was at a back yard short track during races we, as race fans, enjoy for the spectacle, and drivers do for shots and goggles, and for the love of motorsports entertainment. Eddie was just there to help clean up after their antics.

      Man,that sucks.... During the ice storm here in Texas we had a double stack of crushed cars tip off a semi while I was on top throwing the chains down. That's why I make I point to stop every morning and tell my baby I love her before I leave.

      RIP. Terrible tragedy. I worked for my father putting in large concrete pipe when I was young. He always said, never use a chain, alway use a heavy steel cable. A chain snaps where as a cable freys before breaking giving precious seconds to get clear most times. Never know, may help someone in the future.

    We make the bus races every year at Cedar Lake. Last year was the first time we had a scheduling conflict. My kids were sad we couldn't go... that night my phone blew up and I was in shock. Bummed we couldn't go but glad we didnt. I always feared the day I would have to explain a trauma like that to my kids. Rip Eddie. We'll be back in full force this season!

      Yeah. I've witnessed a couple of incidents. The first on was at Oceanside Speedway in Watsonville, California. A hobby stock driver had a heart attack in the car and his foot went straight to the gas pedal. If he hadn't high centered on the inside curb, he would have ran over two marshals. They thought they would need a helicopter but for some reason they used a ground ambulance. The next week they announced he walked out of the second was at american valley speedway in quincy, California. BOOM! I hear. The a lady screams "My baby! My baby!" The announcer freaks out and says a child fell through the stands. Turns out the lady's tiny little rat dog fell through and was fine. It was quite the scare for everyone and definitely disrupted the flow of the racing.

    These track workers show up every week for little to nothing pay wise, generally just because they love the sport of auto racing.
    Theses are the people that make a local dirt track race happen, week in and week out.
    Very sad to hear of his passing.

    I've been to that track on multiple occasions and didn't that day because COVID was running rampid, I'm still a young lad and am thankful that I didn't go that day. The hardest thing about losing somebody is thinking about the moments prior to their death. I can't imagine what the air must have felt like that fateful night. Sure, during these types of events it's rather chilly, but it probably wasn't just that for the people who had to witness that. They most definitely had a gut feeling and a strange feeling In their chest like something was against them. God bless Eddie Nicholson and those who knew him.

      Not exactly sure how it happened, but shouldn't one stay clear in case a chain does snap? Maybe it's not possible because of what needs to be done during the process? Just trying to figure it out.

    I was at Tuscan Raceway Park in Arizona in the 1990's for a Saturday night show. This was when the track was dirt. A street stock race had almost the same exact sequence of events. A car did multiple barrel rolls in turn-1 and was struck by the next car in line. Simply horrible. A helicopter came in and medevacked the driver. We read the next day in the paper he died. My condolences to the family.

    You know it's bad when they bring in a helicopter. I was at a race in 1995 in Thompson Connecticut where a driver was t-boned. They brought a helicopter and that's when we knew it wasn't good. The announcement of his passing was rough. I couldn't imagine witnessing this though, so horrible. It's why we don't do bus races at our local tracks anymore.
