As a long-time PC gamer, one of my go-to troubleshooting methods for USB is to try a different port. Also, always have the dongle on the same side of the machine to where you're using it. I once had to run a USB extender cord so my dongle could detect my mouse reliably.

As a PS5 and Pulse 3D user, I can confirm this. I used the back USB ports in the beginning but I had connectivity and sound issues. I have a different headset but I had the exact same experience. I have a Turtle Beach headset. I had just gotten it and I loved how it sounded playing audio from my phone and from the PS5, and especially how it could play audio from both at the same time, when it actually worked with the PS5 that is. It didn't take long to start experiencing connectivity and sound issues. I thought my awesome new headset was defective. It was the first really expensive headset I'd ever bought and I was very upset but it occurred to me that I should do what I would do if I was using it with a computer, switch USB ports. I did that and the issues immediately stopped. It hadn't occurred to me that it was the heat that caused the issues. I was just happy it was good.

To prevent any accidents with the dongle sticking out, I decided to be a little more creative with the position of mine. With the GTbeans 24pin magnetic USB-C rightangle adapter, I use the same on my tablet, so I can very easily switch between the two. I have no problems with this setup. Dead easy to remove and replace, and no accidental breaking of any USB ports.

Sounds to me more like a wireless signal issue than anything else, as a rule of thumb, you want those RF transceivers to be in direct line of sight and in close range, as they usually don't have good antennas (to save cost, space and have better aesthetic for the most part, people just don't like an antenna sticking out, even though it's still the most viable effective solution) and these devices usually have to operate in high RF noise environment (a lot of devices operating in the same frequency allocation) so the range is usually a lot more limited than people anticipated.

I use it in the back. Not had any issues since launch. After you turn on the console from rest mode if the head set was charging then it might have trouble detecting the dongle but all you need to do it’s turn the head set off and then on again and it’s back in business and you can start gaming in no time.

I did experience this with both my PS5 & my son's PS5 early on in the very beginning of this generation. What I ended up doing was just ordering a USB extension cable for my son's. So that the dongles would be away from the actual exhaust vents. & I got a USB hub that has a long enough cord (to keep the dongle away from the heat) for mines since I have more devices connected to my PS5. I would suggest a simple cheap 3 or 4 port usb hub or just a usb extension cable.
That way you don't have to have anything sticking out the front of you PS5.

  • @maxhalo369gaming4

I honestly can't believe this is even an issue, the PS5 really feels like it was rushed out given how many issues it seems to have.
The Xbox headset doesn't need a USB dongle so I'm not sure why the Playstation headset needs one.

I have a PS5 3D Pulse headset and plug my dongle in the back. There is a catch though. I noticed very early of doing it that I would get connectivity issues with the audio cutting in and out and poor range. Instead of moving it up front I just got a USB extension cord, plugged that in the back, and then ran that cord up to a forward position within my media cabinet mounted with double sided tape. With this set up I have a safe plug for the dongle that is unobstructed and perfect connection without the eye sore that would be a connection hanging out the front of the console!!

My Logitech headsets dongle used to get pretty warm after an hour or so of use. My ps5 sits on the middle shelf of my desk and is open to the air. Exhaust vents warm it up quick even with proper airflow. I’ve started plugging my g923 wheel into the back now and the headset in the front. So far no problems

It's electrical interference. Put the dongle on a short usb extension cable and place it away from the box of electronics. Logitech includes a short usb extension cable for it's mouse/keyboard combo for this very reason.

The question that really needs answering is, is there or will there ever be a 3rd party dongle that you can use with the Sony Pulse headset. For all the people who've lost, broken or just don't have theirs. As Sony doesn't make/sell them.

Hmm, I think the best solution is get like a small short USB extension cable of quality and let it lay behind someplace away from the heat.
Personally I wouldn't like it in the front, and I like the front to be available for quick access if ever needed.
Get like a 5 to 10 inch extension cable that should also solve the issue in concept if the cable is of quality.

    • @DjRavix

It is possible and it will work
However if your dongle is USB 2.0 and the USB A port on the front of the PS5 is also a USB 2.0 port it makes more sense to use that port instead of the USB 3.x ports on the back
But if you aren’t using those ports for anything it would be perfectly fine to do it that way

one thing i wish i knew before spending over $100 on the pulse 3d was that it wasn’t a USBC. the whole reason i bought it was because for some reason the digital PS5 DOES NOT have a usb port at the front, and because i didn’t know much at the time about the ps5, i just thought they switched to using USBC. but i guess a single usb port is the whole selling point for a console.

I used to plug the PS5 Pulse 3D usb at the back port as well. However, i changed my mind and started plugging it on the front after the USB became very hot while being plug at the rear after playing for 3 hours of Elden Ring. Thankfully, i didn’t experience any audio problems . I might test it again if it’s always like that. At the same time, got to do some system cleaning to improve the airflow.
