Thanks, this video illustrated perfectly just how simple a DIY job this was!
FYI one addendum: in addition to the four obvious “posts” on the back, note there is a much smaller 5th one at the bottom directly below the “M” sticker.
Since the 5th post is pretty thin, it broke off during removal of old unit and stayed stuck in hole, but was easily extracted with pair of needle nose pliers.
Once old one out the whole new trim piece popped right back in and all 5 posts (4 big ones, 2x each side, and smaller one on bottom) firmly slid into their holes.
Easy 20 min DIY, thanks again!
The amount of time and headache you’ve saved me on my E39 is such a gift. And now you’re doing the same for my new-to-me E63 M6. Thank you for the incredible content!
Very happy to help! Thanks for watching
Just finished replacing my trim piece, 2008 E60 M5, thank you for the video, went like clock work. Once I removed the air bag instead of removing the wheel, I watched what you did and just removed the two screws on the steering wheel that held both trim pieces to wheel and rotated it down and removed the four other screws and just reinstalled everything from there. Once again thank you.
Excellent video. Your process worked perfectly on my 2006 E60 M5.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Fantastic video, thanks for keeping it on point! Ive got an M6 and the up shift paddle is not making the click feel anymore. Still shifts but doesn't have that satisfying click when you pull it. Thinking the wheel needs to come off to get to it so this really helps. Thanks!
Thanks! I am about to do a paddle shifter replacement DIY on our E60, within the next week or so. Stay tuned!
@@E39SourceTotally awesome. Thanks!
Nice, clean video. We need more to come! 👍👍👍
e60?! SACRILEGE.... haha awesome tutorial
Hey Cool! I made the same video for a 2003 e60. With original steering wheel! I plastidipped the cover for a near factory finish! saving on parts prices. Nice video.
Very helpful. Thank you for posting this. - I was considering WRAPPING my trim piece and couldn't get a part number from the dealer. The info you provided me has just saved me a ton of time and energy. Thank YOU!
Extreemley nice video bro thanks👍
I will upholster my wheel, so is there any problem for the battery, to stay disconnected for 2 hours, and is it possible to get some faults on the board??
You shouldn't have any trouble.
I'm having horn problems on mine.... thought maybe this video would show me more about it..... but no... :(
Would this work if I’m trying to switch my non m steering trim to this?
I don't see why not
Why the wheel have that line on airbag????
The X pattern on the steering wheel airbag? If the bag blows, that is where it comes out of. They did a better job hiding this on the E39 and F10 5-series.

Nice 355🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lucky. The e39 facelift M wheel trim is 200 bucks.
my buttons in ordinary wheel get too noisy on high speeds, is it DIYable?
Too noisy? Please explain the issue in further detail.
due to vibrations from the road right set of buttons start to shake in slots that is the noise of bumping plastic comming out
Oh, they vibrate. On my dad's M5, the OBC button on the turn signal stock vibrates at some speeds. I'm not really aware of any fix for this, aside from replacing the button panels themselves. I would probably try taking it apart, cleaning the plastics, and reassembling it to see if that tightens things up as you reseat everything.
E39Source i have a question can i replace my steering wheel with a shift paddle steering wheel i have a e60 525xi 07 i wanted to upgrade my steering wheel to the m5 e60 steering wheel with shifter paddle
Hi i changed my sterring wheel, after i did i got a Airbah light, please help
Did you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag? If not, this is why the light is on. The computer will need to be reset now. Did you plug the airbag back in? If not, plug it back in and then use a scan tool to reset the light.
Will a lci steering wheel fit a pre lci e60?
I am not familiar with E60 steering wheel retrofits, but I would read up on the forums. My guess is, yes.
Sorry
I have watched this video up to the finish but I haven't seen the hole process of the trim replacement in a very deep steps and explanation. ?
The secrets of that has been protected. !🤔🤔🤔
This video provides all the instruction and direction required to replace the trim.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply,
Unfortunately some of the images from your video has ben cut or skipped out during to the removing of the stering whell procedure and back installation of the trim !
Than after you come with some explanation but without to be followed up in the same time by the images..?
This thing will make impossible job for somebody else with less experience to follow up your instruction without having step by step the process images for this job !
My arguments are based on my opinion only and has been forward to you just for the records of this video enquiries and doesn't need any further answers.
Thanks for sharing these information anyway.
Regards.
there isnt any airbag error light right?
Not as long as you disconnect the battery before all of this and don't plug it in until you're done.
it's not working i worket 2 times and i can not push up the fucking airbag 😠
hi. can you fit this steering wheel in a e90 3 series? it looks way better than the e90 M steering wheel
I am not sure, but I have wondered that myself actually. I would expect it to fit and work, but I would check on the forums to see if anybody has done it.
thanks mate
You have to turn the wheel completely out of airbag. Or, it's no matter what angle it is.
What happened to your e39 m5? Do you still have it or did you swap it for the e60?
It's back in Ohio at the moment. This is my dad's E60.
Nice try
*Can you swap out a E39 540i 2000 BMW engine for a E60 M5?*
You can put an S85 V10 in an E39 chassis, but it would take some work!
***** Thank you!
You prob. didn't have to remove the entire steering wheel.
Yeah dude I didn’t wanna be a Debbie downer but I was wondering why in the F did he even takeoff the whole steering wheel?? I guess you living you learn
Do you still have a e39 m5?
Yes, this M5 is my dad's.
that was, 45second job, i had to take smg padle out
E39 M5 is the way to go.
Yeah... bmw uses some weird film over cheap plastics...
Dislike
May I ask why?
@@E39Source Just because of talking but not showing the process, what is much more useful... Also not telling about buttons of e60 M steering wheel, which are very easy do broke, and can't be reused like on m3 e90/e92, also in changing on red M button process... So if you so much talking, then talk about all thing and nuances
@@YouAdrian28 Thank you for the feedback, I am sorry to disappoint.
