  • My latest DIY project - building a cedar strip kayak. I chose to use the beveled strip approach instead of the bead and cove option.

    Note that I used pine instead of cedar because that's the wood I could get locally. That isn't ideal but worked ok.
    The interior and exterior are fiberglassed with 6oz glass and epoxy (TotalBoat Marine Epoxy). That finish is varnished (TotalBoat Lust) with a final coat of spray on varnish.
    The microBootlegger Sport was designed by Nick Schade of Guillemot Kayaks and plans are available. Well done Nick - this is a fantastic boat!

    Thanks for sharing your video. It came out really well. I had trouble joining the part line on my build as well. Can I ask how much it weighs using pine? I think mine weighed in the mid-40 pound range.
