Far Cry 4 is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. The sequel to the 2012 video game Far Cry 3, it is the fourth installment in the Far Cry series. The game was released in North America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe on November 18, 2014. It will be also released on January 22, 2015 in Japan.
The single-player campaign takes place in Kyrat, a fictional region based on the Himalayan regions of Nepal, which is ruled by the despotic king Pagan Min. The player character is Ajay Ghale, a Kyrati-American who is returning to his homeland to disperse his deceased mother's ashes. No sooner does he arrive in Kyrat is he dragged into a civil war that is raging between Pagan Min and the rebel organization known as the Golden Path. The player has free choice in choosing which force he sides with, resulting in different endings.

Personally, I don't think Ajay was necessarily despicable, but was more or less the most boring protagonist on the planet. He's thrown into this war, and basically bides any task thrown at him so he can "help" out.
They're sometimes I wish I could slap him in the face. Specifically with the dope dudes: You know they'll drug Ajay yet he keeps coming back and showing his hate and YET he keeps getting drugged

I have those same feelings about Ajay. Aside from his motivation to release his mom's ashes, he as a character himself just comes off as uninteresting and barely has any agency in the missions being given to him by Sabal and Amita.

The greatest complaint i have with FC4 is the fact, that the intro is so great, over the top like a 70s Grindhouse/Bollywood action movie, while the rest of the game never even closely resembles this feeling. The game would be much more fun and interesting, if you indeed would've blown shit up with Pagan Min. Instead you get a rather boring storyline with two factions, that never interested me, even if they had reasonably motives. Also the main protagonist is dull and a complete empty shell. I wanted to love this game, because the first 15 minutes promised a badass, selfaware and simply fun game like Blood Dragon, but everything after that just took itself way to seriously. And as gggmanlives stated, the absence of Pagan Min, a unique and very fun badguy, hurts the game big time. FarCry 4 could've easily pulled it off that you work with the antagonist, instead of fighting against this charismatic person and for two pretty uninteresting siblings. The most annoying thing though was the radio and it's host, because everything repeated way too often. At times, i could easily dubbed the radio host, because it was so repetetive. This totally destroys the immerson. But then again, that's what's Ubisoft is famous for with their animations (Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed) that loop endless times.
Heyyo, heh the best part to the intro of FC4? Don't get out of the chair. Super awesome secret ending. ;)

am with on the story point of those two that u have to choose and as i continued i really started to hate those two but pagan he was a loveble vilen i actually stopped playing the game......restarted all over and did the third ending(^^) cuz through out the game pagan made more sense then those two morans

Unpopular opinion but i like this game more than Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4 does everything better than Far Cry 3.. Vaas is the only superior thing from Far Cry 3
I like it more, but disagree it does everything better. The story of 3 and character development defiantly is better, and it’s also more realistic.
GENERIC Toaster Stroodle story and characters are leages better than 4, but from a gameplay perspective 4 is better in every way. I honestly find 4 more realistic as well the weapons are much harder to use and the enemies at least on hard mode spot you instantly in stealth, not to mention crouching isn’t enough to go undetected unless you’re playing on the easy modes of course

Can't believe how many assets they re-used for this. Identical animations, sounds and even a lot of the weapons are identical to FC3. Blood dragon has more innovation than this game.
Game james To be fair, that "climb tower to unlock bit of map" thing they always do isn't a bit of code that can be copied and pasted from one game to another. It's just a shared concept.
What is wrong about reusing the good stuff from FC3?
No point in changing a winning formula, yeah change things up two or three games after a certain success to keep things fresh but again why change a winning formula in the sequel??

This game has been sitting in my library for about 2 years now. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I discovered it was much more fun than I had originally thought. My favorite moment of the game so far was when you were in a drug induced coma running through fields of rose colored grass, and killing a bunch of dudes wearing masks along side a majestic white tiger.

Dan Slash Bit late, but no. Didn't like the shooting mechanics and the retarded MURICA story in FC3 and since FC 4 is the same shit all over for full price, I passed on this one. Finished another FC 2 run in the meantime though and even went on diamond hunts for hours on end, dunno why it is so satisfying. ^^

Yeah, finding the diamonds was very satisfying, just because they're quite rare, and you don't get a lot of them, and gear is expensive.

Far Cry 2 had such potential. If they brought back the african setting and some of the realistic features/systems and expanded upon the buddy system, the factions system, and weapon degradation and spend the actual time to make a cohesive story with the same size and open world of these newer far crys it would be incredible.
What bothered me the most about this game was that they removed customization options on the same exact guns from FC3, and that they give you these huge mountains to climb to get to the next Shangri-La shrine, which is well and good, but they did not devise any measure to prevent you from just bypassing the climb with a gyrocopter...
It's a real shame that FC 4 is so similar to 3. 2 was a fairly ambitious game even if it was quite underwhelming and 3 was a real attempt to fix a lot of faults of 2. As soon as I saw FC 4 I thought it would end up being FC 3.5.
Let's break this down a bit.
One of the biggest complaints about FC2 was the amount of enemies and how quickly they respawned, so it made sense there was less in 3 (even though there isn't enough).
In both 2 and 3 you perform the same task over and over to get better weapons. Only difference, like you said is that you have to pay for them in 2.
In 2 and 3 you drive vehicles around an open world environment. Sure you may repair more in FC2 but the basic concept is the same.
2's campaign is probably one of the big differences to 3. To be honest both were lackluster. 2 had repetitive missions and the feeling you're getting fucked over by everyone you met. 3 was unable to draw me into any characters except fcr Vaas who was not in the game enough.
I can agree with weapon balance somewhat, but some of the weapons in FC2 got pretty useless in the higher difficulties (like the dart gun for example), but it still did a much better job than FC3.
Far Cry 2 is still my favorite. I've tried playing FC3 a couple times, and I just can't get into it.
To be fair, the map in FC2 is pretty empty as well :P
Just another note, when I say attempt to fix a lot of faults of 2, doesn't mean I think they did actually fix them. I really think FC3 could have done with more enemies. 2 had too many (at least on the higher difficulties where you only had enough ammo to get pass 1 or 2 checkpoints). To be honest that there is 'middle ground' between FC 2 and 3 that would make the 'perfect' Farcry game. Sadly Ubishit probably won't look for it and just milk the fuck out of the franchise.
I haven't played it but I doubt it. I'm not putting up $70ish to find out.

I would say that FC4 is a rehash of FC3, but my philosophy is "If aint broken, dont fix it" and despite the minor issues that FC3 had, i loved it. And if FC 4 continues the formula, that's fine with fine.
I hope that the PS4 version be more polished than PC. And also that the lazy-ass jerks of "UbiLol" fix all the troubles of the PC versión.

That's also true. You cant compare the inmense work and coordination between workers that requires this kind of games. But somehow, the mayority of games from Nintendo are more entertaining with less budget. And this comes from a Sonyer like me...xD

One of the most underrated games
As much as I enjoyed FC3, some your complaints are very true like animals being able to run and hit you despite shooting them multiple times or hitting them with an arrow, like you said.
I'm also sick of Ubisoft adding forced stealth. For the most part, they are some of the better devs of putting in stealth in action games, but having the stealth be forced is not how it should be implemented.
I don't really remember having enemies noticing you that quickly if you are not in a bush, but they were a lot of bushes in FC3 and a lot of cover as a whole.
I do agree about the about the arrows and sniper shots, but in FC3 outpost clearing got much easier with a silenced sniper.
Also, why did they pull a Vaas AGAIN?
The antagonist in this game has a different kind of crazy to him. Though he is very simaller to Vass.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, despite all of these problems, I'm definitely getting the game simply because I enjoyed FC3 alot, having said that, I'm worried that this franchise is going to end up getting the Assasin creed treatment, same game every year, here's hoping that the next instalment of the series won't end up being Far Cry 4.5

The shangri-la levels are easily the best part of the game. I want to see an entire game take place in that world.

looking at how Rock star and GTA 5, I've got the feeling they're trying to squeeze the lastablity from it. but I just don't see a rereleased GTA 5 will make any new waves.
I just finished this yesterday. I don't agree with the review I thought it was great fun. Yes sure it was the exact same thing as FC3 but if it ain't broken don't fix it. This game had the best setting by far as well. The only thing that was ridiculous was how idiotic both Amita and Sabal were. Why couldn't they just fucking compromise once in a while?
I'd honestly just wanted a real third path, to just join Pagan and actually destroying the Golden Path, not some fucking joke ending of 20 minutes
I have a little bit of respectful criticism for ya Mr. Gggman. This was a good review but I think it would have been more effective if you would have reviewed Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 first, that way we can have a better idea of what issues you are saying carry over into this game and why it is somewhat disappointing. Not all of your viewers have played the Far Cry, Far Cry 2 or Far Cry 3. Heck, I've only just started Far Cry 1.

It's pretty realistic that enemies will know your general location if you're less than 100 yards away shooting a high powered rifle with a silencer. They aren't all that "silent" IRL, still plenty loud enough for them to hear plus they are gonna hear the impact of the missed round hitting whatever. A high powered rifle usually is still so loud with a suppressor that you'll still need hearing protection and if it's not subsonic ammo you're also gonna have a loud "crack" sound when the bullet breaks the sound barrier.
TLDR: rifle silencers aren't silent by any means. Neither are pistol silencers, but they can be pretty quiet.

You make some valid points... I was scouting an outpost, got attacked by a tiger, and all of a sudden it was raining accurate mortar fire, for fucking miles... An hour later I re-scouted the outpost and they were STILL on alert and calling re-enforcements... WTF. Still the game so far is brilliant, really good fun... And I love all the side quests and collecting, its one of the reasons I buy games like it! I seem to be lucky I've experienced no stuttering and minimal pop in.

I really enjoyed this game mostly because of the terrain(s) and how you traverse around.
I loved the grappling hook and the snow missions - where you're climbing or escaping an avalanche.
More unlikable than Jason Brody? I liked Jason! He went from a regular college pissant to a psycho killer. It’s a good character arc.
Far cry 2 review buddy. My favourite in the series, I recommend using the realism mod or get ready for some frustrations.

I think this game was a perfect opportunity for them to have you play on the enemy side.
You're too right on a lot of this...but you forgot something that I encountered far too many times: using the wing suit is suicide at least 50% of the time because evidently the tree object boxes are pretty wide and extend above the top of the tree itself. I've died a few dozen times due to clipping a single pine needle.
I started a new game of Far Cry 3 again, and yeah, you're right Far Cry 3 has an indicator if a waypoint is above or below you.

And finally you have the semi automatic sniper rifle back from Far Cry 2 The AS-50. Only here it's dubbed SA-50.
The best all around weapon in this game though, is the Buzzsaw. It is like a powerful minigun with a really large magazine. You even can do some sniping with it. Basically with the Buzzsaw you don't have to fear anyone or anything.
It would have been cool once you join Min you are tasked to squash the rebellion.
Stuttering? I runs smoothly with my dinky little RX 560 GPU, they have probably patched it between the time of this review and when I started playing though.
My favorite part of the game? Riding a frickin' elephant while shooting bad guys with a modified MG42. :D

Loved the game. But finding all the loot and shit was rather underwhelming and I did question my direction in life a few times while doing it.
The best ubisoft game in the last decade is for me prince of persia forgotten sands the wii version,a game so good it even chalanges the legendary adventures of the plumer.Plus i tried hard to find gliches and bugs in that game but i didn't found any.So sad that assasins creed killed prince of persia.

GmanLives look man it might just be that far cry 4 was the first game in the franchise for me me but I personally didn’t have many of the issues you mentioned. I just think personally that most people are so stubborn that they see how similar it is to far cry 3 and decide it’s a bad game before even playing

GmanLives well I can’t deny that’s a fair point, I personally didn’t but I did see content from it on launch and I did see enough that some aspects of the game was sort of broken, like the grappling which you had to change keybindings to get it working each time. Honestly I would expect a patch to fix minor stuff like the glitches and bugs but if those where such a big deal you should have spent more time talking about it no offense.like some patches are hardly going to change the stealth mechanics and the side content and main missions which where a big part of your complaint. Also hostile animals popping up at the worst possible time is kinda the point. I also think that saying it’s 50/50 with the good and the bad is being to harsh. But that’s about it
Lol...i have completed the game 100% and i agree with all what gman says...as beautiful and accurate this game is..it doesn't feel authentic to the nationalities it potrays...might look cool from an outsider perspective but none of us call a raakshas a ruckshasa while speaking hindi

Animals usually have sloped skulls that's why they don't die from headshots. Try shooting a bear in the head it has a chance of almost ricochet in a sense

I don't get how Ubisoft can make the same mistake twice. In FC 3 we had an awesome villain that was underused. In FC 4 we have an awesome villain that's underused.
Great review, love the way you bring up the good and the bad. I haven’t had nearly as many issues with glitches and stealth that you did but maybe the issues are patched by now. Anyway good honest and thorough review. I definitely agree on the unlikable characters and the animals being OP and overly aggressive as fuck.

I think you were a little too hard on the story. True. We would have liked to see Pagan more often. And as much I love Far Cry 5, Far Cry 4 still has the best weapons roaster to date.

Even though it's been "patched" I still can't play this game due to mouse acceleration. I've changed in-game options, edited files and tried some work arounds but nothing works. It's a shame really, I'd actually like to get my money's worth out of it.
How many new weapons are there? I find the lack of 'new' content, apart from a 'new map to explore!' not convincing enough to justify a purchase just yet.

Mate there is a fix for the stuttering.
" If you are having "Frame Hitching or Slight Stuttering" Change this setting DisableLoadingMip0="0" in your gamerprofile.xml file to DisableLoadingMip0="1" and the frame hitching is almost completely gone. No noticeable impact on graphic fidelity."
I have tried this "fix" before i did the review it didn't do anything for me. Ubisoft will patch it eventually though. FC3 had similar issues on launch.
Okay then try to lower the textures to Medium , and use the 2x AA instead of the x4 ones.
