Our thoughts go out to all those affected by Hurricane Florence. If you are looking for more information on how to prep for a hurricane or related videos, please see our description for links. We also have a lot of videos in our playlist on how to start a prepper pantry, how to build a DIY solar system, and how to prepare for events such as these. We hope this library of information is helpful. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely loved Canning 101. And Chicken Math. Also, we are dying for some rain up here on The Bruce Peninsula, in Ontario. The heat is insane. The weather is so crazy everywhere. But this is why we prep. And have a well.
Thanks for the videos, I've been watching for some time. I stopped for a while then came back and was pleased to see you guys made a leap of faith on that new property. I think it's going to work out great and it must be amazing to be that remote and free. Congratulations. P.s. I noticed you have Fiskar axes in background, I love mine and plan on getting a second.
Just wanted to thank you for the prep vidio before Florence. We are in NC. and were ready with food and water, medical, but we have a long wooded driveway and had not thought of a chainsaw in case it became blocked. Because of your vidio we went out and bought one. Sure enough we needed it. A tree fell blocking the road , thanks to you my husband had the right tool, and was able to clear it no problem. So thank you again for your help.
Super glad to see you put up a vid so soon after the storm. You’re OK; yay! I’m impressed by the amount of energy left in your batteries after so little sun. That has got to build your confidence. Good job.
I grow shiitake on my homestead here in the sand-hills of NC...Go out with a wooden mallet and smack the sense out of your mushroom logs while they are wet...The combination of moisture saturation and the shock from the mallet will encourage a bloom...Seriously. Good luck.
Good to hear things are alright, and thanks for the video. Showing how well the solar system held up to a hurricane really put its usefulness into perspective. I imagine that I'd have been biting my nails off in regards to the panels as well. Lol I also like the comments on the well and septic system- 2 things I would not have thought of as potentially being compromised by the storm. The education you guys provide through your experiences is greatly appreciated. 👍
Love the art commissions! My daughter has narcolepsy and will never be able to work a full-time job but the one thing she has under her sleeve is she is a wonderful artist!!!! That will be what supports her when she is older!
I am so glad you survived the hurricane and I hope the rain doesn’t damage your spring! The chickens are like children and have to be “with “ you! Thank you for sharing and I love your art work and wish you every success with it!
Glad to see you made it through OK! We too had lots and lots of rain and gusts. It was raining up to about 3 hours ago. Unfortunately we developed several roof leaks and the ceiling fell in three different places. It's a commercial building built around 100 years ago. That not being the problem, it was a flat roof which are notorious for leaking. Probably had so much rain it couldn't drain off fast enough. It's going to be an expensive repair. Many roads were closed due to fallen trees and flooding but we never lost power. It could have been much worse.
Smooth, engaging, informative, concise, sprinkling of humor to relieve concerns . . . well scripted, yet contains a sense of spontaneity. I'm enjoying the evolution of your videos.
We live in an area that gets hit by hurricanes and tropical storms on a pretty regular basis. When bad weather is expected our girls get on the back porch during the day...when it's really bad (during the day - and over night), we bring them inside and put them in our spare bathroom. Works pretty well. We just put down some butcher paper and pine shavings/chips. Once the weather breaks, we just roll up all the paper - shavings and all. EASY clean up! Glad you all made it through without major damage, and are safe.
Thank you so much for sharing. Glad to hear that you came through the storm alright. Prayers for that family that lost the little baby. The artwork is BEAUTIFUL. Blessings as you continue to work on this and learn. Thanks again for sharing.
I love the way those chickens follow mama, it made me chuckle. It has been very wet here in n.w. Florida, very hot too. Thunderstorms everyday. The children were stir crazy.
I hadn't thought of doing art for an income stream...I've been trying to think of ways to support the expenses it takes to get this homestead up and going. Good idea!
Sorry I did skipped over the art video I'm just not a art person I still gave it a thumbs up and y'all are a giant inspiration to me. I got about 4 more years before I can go off grid 🙂🙂
I am so glad you did a vid today, I was looking at the creek levels near your place and there are a lot of creeks and rivers way above their banks. Thank God you are safe. Sad that the little fellas are gone, they were just so cute :-) I am going to have to check out your art page (Yes, I did watch that video all the way through) You would never guess that the picture you are now drawing is a polar bear, looks like a cute chipmunk to me :-)
This woman is so amazing , she is so smart and tough .She can be a homesteader or a princess whatever the need may be. The kids/Husband are lucky to have her .An old soul with some quirkiness . I must find me a gal like that one day.
I'm glad to hear you all are ok. My parents on the southern part of the Delmarva peninsula were my first concern and although I don't know you, my next thought was your safety.
So happy yall are ok! Glad you were able to sell the pigs. Great timing! Hopefully the worst has passed for you now. You've had a lot of rain for sure! We are in a drought although we've had some rain here in Texas. Stay safe! Oh my gosh! Your art is fantastic!
We in Holland had the most dry summer ever. I had to give birds water everything was dry out. Wauw You are so great at drawings it is beautiful You can ASK much more You have talent . Great art top 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you had something to hold on to...lol Florence was very kind to us here on our little farm at the 1500 foot level not far from you at the foot of the Blue Ridge. Enjoy your videos and going to enjoy your art...WB
It is always good to live in a place for awhile before you decide where you want to build your home. In the case where you live on a mountain or hill you have found the ins and out of your property. Good luck.
Glad you're all good. I knew you would be. But shit happens in storms, no matter how well prepared you are. And you've been through more than your share, so you have a good perspective on what actually happens during a disaster. Thanks for the valuable information.
If you can afford yarn or fiber fill stuffing, I highly recommend you learn to knit or crochet! Speaking from experience, it's highly versatile and relaxing, and stuffed animals and some clothing pieces sell really well! Your drawing is amazing, by the way. So realistic!!
My chickens have learned to bark for scratch as of today. Lol I MUST comply as they're not allowed in my area, and purposely don't own any roos. Oh boy! My EEs honk and the RIR clucks away.... lol. As long as the scratch pacifies them, we're good. I'm glad you guys made out OK. I'm north of you and getting the bands of rain now and luckily that's just it. No winds, although we've had our fill, over 8" of rain here this past month. Tons of mosquitoes here too. Only reason why I want fall! Lol Very good to know how to use your solar system and how frugal you've been with it all. Wow! What talent! Beautiful drawing! I'm writing while watching..lol
And to think all that artistic talent has been in you this whole time and you're just now letting it out! You're inspiring me to pick up my sketch book again. I haven't touched it in years. Congrats on the commission! And you know... surviving the storm! ;) I'm glad things are fairing fairly well for you guys. Love your videos! Keep'em coming!
I'm so glad you all weathered the storm so well! But really I never had any doubt your level of preparedness! I loved the art video by the way. Being able to educate yourself is a perk of homesteading I think, as well as lucrative so it definitely was a great vid to share. And wow, you're so talented!
OMG! Your hair looks amazing! i absolutely love that color on you - totally suits you! Also, so glad that you and your family are safe after this horrible hurricane. Last year around this time we were hit with Irma (my husband and I are in Miami, born + raised) and we were without power for 10 days - no cell service for 3 of those days. We also survived Hurricane Andrew (1992) so most seem like a breeze after that...although it never really gets easier. I am sure you guys had ample supplies and had prepared for the storm, which is honestly the best you can do! Sending love and positive vibes your way! xxoo
My uncle own Kunekune on his farm in New Zealand, thy live in cold weather really well...Not so long ago Kunekune were on the extinct list. 1980 my uncle and his friend were the only people in the world to have them....Now thy're on the recovery

Are you really doing the 'human flag'?!

Glad y’all are fairing well. I certainly didn’t skip the drawing video. Watched it a couple times and super impressed with your skill.
I love the way those chickens follow mama, it made me chuckle. It has been very wet here in n.w. Florida, very hot too. Thunderstorms everyday. The children were stir crazy.
When we grew shiitake mushrooms, we had the most growth when the weather would swing from extremely hot to cold or visa versa.
That's fantastic that y'all faired so well with the hurricane. ❤️
Thank you for the update...you've been in my prayers.
Glad y’all are ok.
Glad you are all okay

I'm so glad your family is faring well through the hurricane! Your art is so beautiful, job well done!
Use Spirits of Camphor for the bug bites. Works great! Just dip a q-tip in the bottle and dab it on.
Your squirrel is wonderful! I think you'll do very well with drawing. Good luck!
7:38 That is excellent. Great when things work out, and that is a system designed to work when needed for sure.
Impressed with your off grid solar system, especially. You are a talented artist.
Looking forward to watching the build!

LOL at the chickens interrupting filming to get fed.
Mushrooms: check out chanterell mushrooms as they are delicious, easy to identify and grow well in line and leaf litter!
Glad y’all made it through the big blow folks! Thanks for the update!
Glad y'all are doing okay 👍👍😁

Just had a look at your art and I'm impressed they are excellent. Add an extra room to the house plan, a studio.
Or at least a corner of one room so I have a desk. Bit cramped where we are now lol
