    Ever since I received my MPC Key 37, there is always something new to learn, and/ or surprise. I'm thoroughly convinced that it was an excellent investment. In fact, I'm convinced that it's BAD ASS.
    Another awesome video Bro!

    I often see people using the workflow you described... making loops on a MPC, then performing them into Ableton to create an arrangement and add vocals and stuff. But Akai has a product which combines both of those feature sets into a single device, the Force. So it baffles me how little attention the Force gets, since it seems like it should be quite a bit more popular. I hope theyll finally merge all the features into a single device soon.

    I’m gonna get this to work with my iPad. Best of both worlds. Mpc in standalone and controller in usb mode. Perfect.

  • @Iredidv
    @Iredidv 10 місяців тому +4

    I’ve been doing this with Maschine plus for a while. Use it as midi controller hardware, use scales, chords, arpeggios, note repeat etc. You have to make a template with midi channels in software if you want to do it like in the vid, then save it and open in standalone . And I do mean standalone, not midi controller mode. Have a re script for reason, so I can assign midi channels to each track (reason only knows midi in “all” can’t assign midi channels), there is a module for midi out, so you can even go m+>reason>external hardware. With stems thrown in these days the possibilities are literally endless. (And I use both mpc one with Maschine plus together , this is one of the most exiting times to make music in my 20 years )

      @teftymusictech Having issues connecting my Key 37 to IPad Pro 6th gen, the 12.9 inch with USBC. I have an Anker 541 (6 in 1 hub) connected….It is automatically sending the midi to garage band to control virtual instruments I add to tracks in the app, and I stumbled my way into getting the audio back into the mpc through the headphone output of the anker hub and into an input of the key 37. What I would like to do is use the iPad as a sort of effects/mixer to get things back into the key 37, then chop and sample them into the pads. I also have a micro freak I want to put into the mix as well and record it all somehow. I’m super new to all of it and the way things connect and communicate are confusing enough, but also learning the mpc at the same time is a bit overwhelming. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of videos out there showing how to incorporate the Key 37 specifically to an iPad Pro. I don’t know if anyone has successfully gotten audio in and out through the usb alone like you are doing on the computer with ableton in this video…maybe I need a different app for the IPad???? Any advice or links would be super helpful. I was also directed to try the Tuscam Model 12…. Might do that in the future once I learn the ins and outs of what I already have and what it is capable of. Unsure if I would ever really be able to just utilize the iPad in the whole mix the way I’m hoping to though.

      @wirklich_niemand I've had one of those for years, but I quit using it. I prefer usb to usb connections for transferring midi data. Right now, I have my Key 61 and OG X connected to the midi den ports on my RME Fireface UFX iii. Which is cool, but all of my other devices that support midi over usb seem to be more dependable. I also have iConnectivity Mio XL, which is dope as well, but if the MPC's supported midi over usb like the Key 37, my setup would be a lot simpler.

    Interesting…I’ve been eyeing the Key 37 as a master controller for Ableton plus getting the things an MPC gets you. Sounds like this new feature makes it more useful alongside a DAW.
    If you plug a USB midi interface into your MPC One/One+ does it then show “USB MIDI Port 1”? Perhaps as someone else said, the new hardware adds 2 USB midi ports plus the interface to the keyboard.

    I have my Mpc X linked with my daw via an external clock. Been trying to figure out how to get the daw and the mpc to start at the same points like you did. for example if the daw starts at bar 32 the mpc will also start at bar 32. • @teftymusictech

Second I'm not a big fan of the reverbs currently in the MPC. Lastly, if I'm doing vocals, I usually max out of the 4 effect limit pretty fast. Also editing 'breaths' in vocals is a bit of pain in the MPC. Just my 2 cents 🙏

    Hi, I have just tried to connect the mpc key 37 to a a laptop with ableton. Since the MPC Keys 37 has a USB audio, I thought it would be nice to use ableton as a slave instrument rack, eg. sending midi notes from the MPC to the ableton instruments and receiving the audio back to the MPC though the MPC Key 37 USB Audio interface. But when I press the small MPC icon in the upper right corner, Ableton detects the MPC key 37 USB audio ports, but the MPC keeps waiting for a daw connection eg. it shows the red screen that says "looking for a computer", and keeps waiting...So in my case It doesn't work :-( What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for all your great videos!

    • @teftymusictech
      @teftymusictech  8 місяців тому

      A couple things, in my video I was in standalone mode for the Key 37 and used the usb-midi to send midi to Ableton back and forth. In this mode you can't use the audio interface features while in standalone mode (it's like if you hooked up two computers to each other asking one to be an audio interface and still run as a normal computer).
      Also in the video, I was using a separate audio interface to bring all the audio into my computer, which was running Ableton. Ableton was then being treated as a digital mixer and host for VST instruments.
      So in your case, you're in controller mode (which gets you access to the audio interface features) but in order to run an MPC session, you gotta load up the software plugin inside Ableton. It's honestly not as convenient. And things get really confusing if you're unaware of the specific differences between controller mode and standalone mode.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi Tefty Great info and great vid as usual. one quick question, I noticed in midi / midi clock or MTC. With MTC can the key 37 sequencer be slaved to a hardware multitrack recorder. So the key 37 does midi and multitrack does the audio. Great for jamming/ writing.

    • @teftymusictech

      Thank you! And yes, the MPC can absolutely follow another clock. In the video I could've easily reversed the setup to where anytime I hit play in Ableton it would start the MPC clock. And same with transport controls and measure selection from within Ableton to MPC.

    I have a question about the sound engine. how easy is it to design sounds from scratch? is it possible or is everything presets in the various programs and then tweaking the presets?

    • @teftymusictech
      @teftymusictech  10 місяців тому

      Most engines are pretty straight forward. The Mini D and Jura (paid plugins) are super simple if you used any of the typical subtractive synth emulations in VST format. OPx4 is probably the most complicated out of the bunch, but it's to be expected in an FM synth. As touch screen interfaces go, Akai's engineers have actually done a great job of making the interface feel usable to design/alter sounds. The biggest issue is the stock plugin synths are the least exciting IMO out of the bunch in terms of sound quality. Mini D and Jura are big steps in better sound engines overall. Just my 2 cents.

    • @teftymusictech

      The only thing it does is provide the midi connections. All the labeling and midi channel routing has to be done manually. For instance, the Pigments track I have in the Key 37, I labeled that myself after I set the midi channel to the track that Ableton is listening to for the Pigments track (in Ableton). Once you've set everything up, save it as a template on both the MPC and Ableton to save time from session to session.

      yeah I mentioned in the video you can do the same thing by hooking up the MIDI Din ports. The problem with this for the One and One+ is you're taking up your one set of ports for external gear. Also with one USB cable that came with the Key 37, it replaces 4 Midi cables and an external box connecting to your computer to handle the two sets of Midi ports.
      Another benefit, you can plug the Key 37 directly into an iPad or iPhone and get midi communication. Assuming you have a proper USB hub.

    I dont understand the fuss... why not just use a mpk or any usb midi controller to drive the daw and control any vst... why need to be a mpc37?

    huh, fascinating. I suppose if you're big into MPC production and bumping into RAM and CPU limitations, this provides an interesting way to expand your setup. Just... chain up a second MPC!

      No. Akai has never sponsored or paid me money. I've obviously been sent gear, but there has never been a requirement to say or post anything about the gear. I've literally been sent stuff I've never posted about because I didn't like the workflow.

      @@teftymusictech not casting shade, or not attempting too. ;). The fact that it can send midi as a usb midi device in standalone is quirky and interesting but def not earthshaking ;). I just seemed like something that Akai would ask you point out, that’s all. Now, if it could stream from disk -THAT would be earthshaking.

    • @teftymusictech
      @teftymusictech  10 місяців тому

      No shade taken! Just clarifying intentions. Definitely not earthshaking by any means, but what caught me off guard is it's a hardware limitation on older units that's preventing this ability. When I first realized it wasn't in the other MPCs I emailed my Akai contact asking when it's going to be in my Live 2. When he said it's a 'Hardware innovation exclusive to the Key 37' I thought it'd be worth sharing the info since I don't see any details on Akai's website.

    wait, wait, wait. in standalone mode you dont have access to the sd card? huh?

      When plugged into the computer, you have to be in controller mode to get access to the as card.

    • @harveygarrett4129
      @harveygarrett4129 10 місяців тому

      No in controller mode you don't have access to the SD card while it's inserted into the MPC. It had to be inserted into the computer. I believe 🤔

    • @THA-REAPER
      @THA-REAPER 10 місяців тому +2

      In standalone the MPC finds it in its own OS. When in controller mode it behaves as if you inserted/mounted a drive with an audio interface on a hub of some sort. Other MPCs the ssd shows at the same time too. You hear the USB device inserted chime. That’s how you would transfer files. Also on the MPC Daw software you just go to your SD card from its own file browser.
      You never get errors of not being able to find files unless they were actually deleted or you did something to corrupt them. In standalone all the files within project are kept in ram until you save so you don’t make a mess of files. When you save it’s like collect and save. Loading will pick up everything that was dumped in that contained folder, so even when you switch to controller mode the computer is just picking up where you left off and doing the same thing, but collecting in its ram and dumping in a folder when you save.

      Imagine you're working in standalone mode but you wanted to use Vst instruments on your computer on a track or multiple tracks without switching to controller mode. Or if you wanted to sync your daw to your mpc in standalone.

      Definitely not ground breaking. Hopefully I didn't imply this was 'game changing' in the video. Reason why I made the video is because this feature is not coming to the other MPCs via firmware, which I assumed it was at first.
