    As a South African, I agree. 6 Nations should be a European competition. Include another European team. Our boys should stay in the SH ✌🇿🇦

    WE ARE IN THE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP. WE MUST STAY THERE, ITS TRADITION. The tri-nations are SA, AUS and NZ, that tradition was already broken when Argentina joined in. If there's any team that has to leave the championship then its Argentina, they are terrible at the moment. We are from the Southern Hemisphere so we must play in a Southern Hemisphere competition. All the tradition will break down if we move to the six nations because then we won't get to play the all blacks twice every year anymore and the boks and all blacks have a great rivalry we must stay with them and AUS in the championship. The Rugby Championship is nothing when the boks aren't there. If the boks leave, then the rugby championship will fall apart.

      I agree that tradition is important, but we do need to look to enhance the game. My issue with this is that it seems the 6 Nations are ignoring the rest of Europe. For the growth of the game, you have to create pathways for 2nd tier nations to have exposure and opportunity's to play against those other teams!

    The problem with South Africa joining is that their isn’t an important rivalry between any of the 6N teams and South Africa. Take England for example, their most important rivalry in rough order are: Wales, Scotland, France, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Argentina. I would think that is the same for the other 6N teams, SA doesn’t rank high on the rivalry list in Europe. The other issue is that the reason the 6N matches are so atmospheric and intense is the away fans, Scotland to Italy is a short budget flight that many fans can afford. Flying to SA is time consuming and expensive and most fans are not going to make the effort. Better SA stay with their natural rivals in NZ and Australia.

    • @BSRUGBY
      @BSRUGBY  2 роки тому

      I agree again with you, these rivalries have been created over 100 years, with the added spice for each game, makes for one of the most exciting tournaments in the world. As you say, the cost of travelling to SA would be crazy and tough for many fans!

    A bad idea it means that rugby has sold its soul. How soon before the Aussies and Kiwis want in then Argentina and then demands that the British Isles only field the 1 team just like football.

    I agree with your concerns about the development of the game in Europe, but isn't this a possible catalyst to promote European Rugby? I think that the best solution is to have something like a 12 nations in two pools with promotion relegation as is found in many sports including regional rugby competitions. I am firstly a rugby supporter and secondly an SA supporter and any idea that grows the game will get my vote. The world moves on and I have a huge problem with traditionalists, after all those traditions came from radical new ideas - lets not get bogged down on the countries and try and make the decisions that are good for the growth of the game.

    • @BSRUGBY

      It was an idea that was flirted with for a long time, a couple of years ago. I don't think we are too far away from potentially seeing that. It would be something to be excited about, and we could see the same in the southern hemisphere as well!

    I think they should stay in the SH tournaments, 6 Nations has historically been European... Plus, SA fans have a tendency to whine and moan about every decision that doesn't go their way, I'd hate to see more of that in the 6 Nations. My opinion is money was going to be a reason and I do feel sorry for itlay but I feel once the SA teams got into the urc there was going to be talk about the springboks my question is the under 20 itlay side does better then the main side. I understand the history of the rugby championship but SA in my opinion Don't need the likes off new Zealand, Australia to help them grow I feel a good way they could keep the connection with new Zealand and Australia do a tour series between the rugby championship sides in the summer and also the North tour the tier 2 but unfortunately the money will lead the way in my opinion. Rugby is driven by money, which is sadly necessary. Games against SA would attract much more spectators than Italy. And SA would be a strong contender for the title so the competition would be that much more interesting.. I’m honestly in favor but there remains the question of how second tier teams can improve. In my opinion it’s not by being integrated in 6N or such…
    Edit : latest news say it would be a 7 nations with Italy still in there.
    That would make a mega wooden spoon ? Grand slams would be that much more difficult !

      Its an interesting point you make Alexis, and looking at Italy, it hasn't worked. I think there needs to be pathway and a progression for 2nd tier teams in Europe, and right now there isn't, hence why they fail at RWC. There would be so much money to make from having SA in the 6 Nations so you can understand why the Unions would want it

      Certainly the Springboks style of play has attracted criticism from pundits and fans but it’s not confined the the NH, NZ and Australia have hardly complemented it. NH media isn’t denigrating Africa, stop playing the victim or seeking offence where there isn’t any
      As for Bok fans, I’ve met plenty of great ones however there is a vocal minority who are not interested in discussing rugby but more interested certainly on social media in grandising their team and their own players, slating other teams, players discipline whilst disregarding their own side’s actions. Blaming refs for loses isn’t a good look either however this is a minority.
      This narrative of some fans that the NH is anti Boks is really getting boring.
      If other fans or journalists don’t like the Boks style so what, why should it bother you what a podcast says about the Boks in say Ireland or elsewhere, your own rugby media is hardly shy of criticising others. Just ignore it support your team and stop getting offended if other fans don’t agree with your opinion

    I have a SA background. The 6N should stay a European competition. SA would only win it every year, otherwise. That would be boring. Better idea would to make a Rest Of Europe team instead of Italy. Such a team would still be 50% Italian probably - but combined with Georgia, Spain, Portugal, Romania etc would have more of a chance to be competitive.
