@@DavidSmith-yi8ou I agree. The Springboks are playing good rugby in spite of the mistakes they made. Their defence structures are very good. The All Backs have gone through a difficult time with management and changing coaches etc. The New Zealanders must give them time to get there. It's never easy against the top sides when you are struggling. Many teams over the years have fallen to the ABs now they are experiencing failures. It won't be long before they are at their best.

I wouldn’t be too tough on the ABs. That game could have gone either way. Boks bench and full 23 squad is the difference between the teams and has put pressure on ABs in the last 20mins. Feels great to win 2-0 though as a Boks supporter. Great channel Mark! 💚🇿🇦🏆

@N1ghtCrawler1 when you want to be the best in the world, and you have been for so long, being tough in all areas is what gets you there. The ABs lost the game in the 2nd half, not just final 20mins, with poor game management and execution.

As a Kiwi I find the ref guilty of being trigger happy and gifting us the first 6 points. No way anybody can get away from the ball that quick, he was blind to the occasion and just too hasty to penalize the Boks in those moments.

This is because they are in the early process of redevelopment in terms of their game, they are clearly being encouraged to attack with the ball in hand & to execute under, at times, enormous pressure, this is a style that comes with errors, but the rewards in the end outweigh the negatives.
When Rassie swapped Handre for Sascha at 10, there was alot of chat about the boks reverting back to their kick/pressure/penalty style of game, I watched Handre when he captained the under 20 Springboks to the world title, can't remember what year now, but he was scintillating with the ball in hand & had the nous to also play conservative rugby when necessary.
It's scary to think how good they will be come 2027.

I cant help thinking that The ABs are a typical team in transition - new coach, new ethos, some new players and that things will come right in time. We certainly have been there. The fact that they still have run us close in the last four games , playing at an intensity few teams in the N H will match shows the ageless class and quality of the magnificent thing called All Black rugby.

Also Cam Roigard will be back in the mix. I feel Razor needs to have honest conversations. I agree Will Jordan and Caleb Clarke are the wing pairing with BB as FB. I feel as though DMac needs BB to help him through. Had to rewatch a few games of this combo pairing. It feels as though BB gives DMac freedom and safety to play an attacking game.

Let's take notes while I listen. Wings: Sevu Reece had a rough game. Telea couldn't get into the game. Jordan didn't have the impact we wanted at fullback. We lost the aerial battle, clearly. That means the back three is not functioning. Jordan was much better on the wing and Clark was awesome last week. So yeah, I agree.
MacKenzie High Tackle: there was no malice in it. The SA player slid out down to the ground which affected the height of the tackle. Penalty only (good call). All the yellow cards in the game were correct. The ref did a much better job than the ref last week.
Codie Taylor: best All Black on the park today. Leading the way. He was awesome. This is what is needed from our players, this kind of energy.
Breakdowns: Vaai was immense today as well. He is stepping up big time. He's one of the bright points.
Cortez Ratima and the centres: He was much better than Perenara. DMac seemed much more certain with him and this vanished when Perenara came on. Jordie and Ioane were solid at centre. Ioane was making metres past the gainline and never lost the ball. One of the better players today. Baffling they took him off with the last 15 mins, instead of Reece who was sitting on a yellow card. Poor game management.
Penalty Kicks: this was so cowardly. It was the worst way to lose. This shows we have no self belief right now. This has to change or the future is grim. This is not the way we should be chancing our arm. What does it matter if we lose 18-0 or 18-12. We still lost. And if we had some more courage, maybe the result could have been different. Maybe we would have had some self belief those last two minutes. This for me is the hardest thing to swallow about the loss... we just took kicks...
Short passing and innaccuracies: yeah, this goes with the lack of self belief. We need our mojo back. This is going to be a really hard year for the boys.
Wallis Satiti: enormous debut. THIS is what we need. Let the new blood have their chance. Let the last era pass now. Let's build the new era with only the very best of the old. Bring in Tosi ffs. What impact are you expecting from Tuangafasi exactly? Why is our best number 8 in the country not in the squad getting ABs experience? Why persist with Sam Cane? He's leaving next year. He's too slow in attack.
Bench management: Lomax had an awesome game but why was he still on the park at min 65 (when he got his card)? Like what was the bench strategy exactly? And Perenara ... why is he chirping at the refs? Where was our captain to quieten him? Was Scott Barrett even on the park today? Cost us a brilliant attacking opportunity last week and he almost got sent off this week. Beaden Barret ... it's tough. When he's good he's great. When he's not he really is not.
I also had no confidence we were gong to pull it out of the bag. Pretty sad. Boks got that belief right now. Deserving of that number 1 spot.

Another very comprehensive assessment Mark. We matched them in the forwards with Taylor, Vaa'i and Setiti absolute standouts; there wasn't a starting forward that let the jersey down. Sadly our backs did not fire. Ioane is not a test centre; he is a world class winger. This was a test to forget for Reece and Tele'a. I'm still firm on my position with Jordan as our full back he had limited opportunities with backs not hitting thier strides. Reece was busy apealling to the ref and not focused on Marx; reduced his reaction time and Marx is a dominant ball carrier. This current Boks side is highly intelligent, they have a high degree of cohesion and made less mistakes. Goal kicking at test level is critical; whilst the Boks were better if DMac hit all his goals it would've kept the ABs ticking over and reduce scoreboard pressure on the ABs. I'd like to see ALB and Proctor in the midfield and hopefully Clarke is back from injury. Savea should be skipper; it might help Barrett focus on his role. This was Vaa'i's best test to date he was sensational. Look out for me in the crowd at the Syd test 😊

    • @subhuman119
      @subhuman119 Місяць тому +1

Agreed. Jordan should stay at Fullback, he didn't really do anything wrong. Sevu Reece has made critical errors since he's been back in the All Blacks, against Argentina and now against South Africa. Unfortunately he's not the winger he was back in 2019 and it seems that he's playing himself out of a jersey. They should 100% recall Emoni Narawa and give him valuable time in the squad/jersey. Although you have to cut Sevu Reece a bit of flack, he was never going to stop Malcom Marx in a one on one tackle. The fault in that try actually lies with TJ Perenara, he moved towards the ruck as it spun around, exposing Sevu Reece.
Caleb Clarke will be back for the first test against Australia, same with Ethan Blackadder and maybe even Ethan de Groot and Patrick Tuipolutu, which changes the starting 15 big time. ALB and Proctor deserve a shot in the midfield against Australia, would be interesting if they pull the trigger on that.
What people fail to realize is that South Africa didn't beat us up like they do most teams, they don't have the dominance over the All Blacks like their fans think they do. It's only a matter of time before this All Blacks side starts to click, and the rest of the world will know about it when they do.

    • @SioneDunk
      @SioneDunk Місяць тому

@@subhuman119 nice one. I certainly agree that Narawa deserves a recall. Poor guy has had a terrible run with injuries. Re the Marx try, the likelyhood of stopping him alone was low to start with and I agree if TJ stayed on the blind together they had a better chance together. Things to learn from. I'm not hitting alarm bells re the two losses. Very low margin and if a couple of passes stuck and the ABs crossed the line or kicked all their shots on goal the results would've gone their way. Credit to the Boks they scored when required and keep scoreboard pressure on with accurate goal kicking. I'd like to see Blackadder and Setiti together with Savea and Cane. I also hope Papali'i & Finau get some time as well. De Groot will bolster propping options and Tuipulotu will be a welcome return and he'll provide guidance to Vaa'i, Lord and Darry.

Well done to my Bokkies, they were awesome. What I love most about this squad is that no matter whether we're down or up, there is a sense of calm and a "we got this" attitude. Maybe its the huge amount of trust we have in our bench, but the character of this Bok team is something to behold.
Hard lyck for NZ, I know they are going to face some harsh criticism, but they went to the world champions' back yard and came away with two games that finished within one converted try. The line between roaring success and dismal failure is paper thin.
Can I just also give a shoutout to Argentina who orchestrated a comeback for the ages. I love the Argies and I'm so very proud of them. Given the fact that they still have a (very much) outside chance to win the Rugby Championship, their great win last night certainly have made the Buenos Aires match must-see TV.

The main thing to acknowledge is that it was 2 amazing and intense test matches. With 2 of the best teams in the world - Both teams are trying something different and have not perfected it yet. Saying that - The Springboks just know how to win tight games and will probably go unbeaten for the rest of the year.
My biggest disappointment was Sevu Reece. He had a shocker 🙄.
With Marx try - Yes TJ should have stayed out, But Sevu should have stayed focused - Rather than drifting in and complaining to the ref. Huge blunders.

And I agree, the pressure on both sides created this pattern of play!

As a springbok fan I see it as an honor to have beaten the All Blacks four times in a row. The New Zealand team has left me in awe over the years and although I am enjoying what my team are currently achieving I have no doubt that its only a matter of time before the Kiwis are back on top again.

I think we need to trust the bench and actually give game time to the 23 to build experience and confidence.
Hopefully, we see Ruben Love and Harry Plummer (or Perofetta when he is. Back). Get some game time as they bring something different to our game plan, and Plummer can execute well. Good luck for the game against the Wallabies. (Yes they lost badly to the Pumas, However the first half was good). And we struggle in the 2nd half as well.

Thank you for your thoughts on todays game. Springboks are also evolving and credit to Rassie for not being afraid to rotate players even though today's game was an important one. Rassie is focused on the next world cup and is not afraid to experiment win or lose. All blacks are a dangerous team and cannot be taken lightly. They need to get more playing time as a new team and build on each other's strengths and weaknesses. Patience is the key.

Follow what’s going with Mark Robinson and why some key players don’t want to be involved. We had these issues in SA rugby 9-10 years ago and Rassie amongst others changed that. AB’s lacking a why?

Every top tier rugby nation has administration issues in their respective nation off the field, and each are dealing with this in their way.

To me, the following is clear:
Time to move on from TJ. Instead: Ratima, Hotham & Fakitava until Roigard gets back.
Lets try something new at 10. Dmac has played 54 caps now and STILL isn't test level standard against top tier teams. I want to see Zarn Sullivan called up.
Time to change the midfield, specifically Reiko. He hasn't been close to his attacking form when he started his career on the wing and he is a defensive liability, missing a huge amount of tackles this tournament. Let's give Proctor a go.
1 of Tele'a or Reece is fine but both at the same time doesn't work. I'd like to see Caleb Clarke in for his aerial skills and Tavatavanawai brought in for his power. Otherwise Jordan back to the wing, he doesn't have the same prowess as he does on the wing.
I don't like Scott Barrett as captain. I think Sam Cane has a better head on him and manages the game better particularly under stressful situations. I saw Cane talking to the ref several times and S. Barrett trotting over 5-10 seconds later.
Our attack was horrendous. We had trouble stringing phases together and often ended up all over the show. It was a completely dry day, South Africa missed MANY tackles (18 missed tackles in the 20th minute) and we STILL didn't score a single try.
Also, what was going on with the sub-bench. Lomax got left on practically the entire game yet he was clearly exhausted by the 60th minute. Newell is a fine substitution, I don't know why you wouldn't put him on.
Something is not going right with our discipline, we are constantly getting carded and especially at the tail-end of games.

Reason for getting carded is players are getting tired and need to make those forced errors which leads to getting carded. I’m not sure if Razor is confident in the bench but needs to rather trust the bench. Timing on bringing them on is also key. But perhaps the bigger issue is the CEO of the All Blacks.

I agree with your assessment of the leadership. During crunch time, I observed several All Blacks players talking back and arguing with the referee. This behaviour indicates a lack of leadership and clarity within the team, suggesting that Barrett is not effectively fulfilling his role. At some point, we need to consider moving away from relying on the Barrett Brothers as well; they are occupying some key positions that can be filled by other talent. If we continue to lose games this way, we should start developing younger players for these positions and utilising the older players as impactful substitutes. Our backline is too predictable. There is a need for significant changes in the midfield, and it may be time for Sevu Reece to be replaced. South Africa played exceptionally well, and they deserve credit for their performance.

The very obvious and aparent negative about the All Blacks is that they simply don't have the 23 to beat the Springboks. The bigger issue is NZR not letting Razor have access to all NZs best players. We would have a very experienced and WORDLY 23 if he could access overseas players who aren't living in the NZ rugby silo. I do believe we currently ALMOST have all the players, but that overseas diverse experience brings adaptability and better decisions on the field. NZR need to problem solve this so Razor can have the players he needs while not weakening Super Rugby-it shouldn't be an either/or scenario. They just need to be a bit more creative vs holding the black jersey over everyone's head.

Saffer living in the UK here, nice win for the Boks, well deserved but I’m puzzled by the AB selections. Beaudie should be at 10, should never have been put to 15, even in the days of Moanga, Agree 100% on your wings call, Ione is a wing, not a centre so the balance all wrong behind the forwards. That said, 2 and 6 were very good, the pack did well not to concede more penalties at scrum time and finally, ref had a shocker. One of the worst I have seen for a while, embarrassed for him. Siya for prez…thanks for the channels.

AB supporter from CPT, our attack looked stuttered and lacked follow through. Talea looked for magic when he just needed to offload to his left on an occasion for a clear try. We get into decent positions and look unsure. Again, the skillset is there just lacking the final execution. Defence was massive and positive, once the attack starts clicking, we should see a revived ABs team. Boks played a "'decent'' game, but one can tell the confidence in the individual roles and team as a collective is aligned. Congrats to them and may we continue this rich history of rivalry. lol through tears of joy and sometimes sadness all for the love of the game.

Exciting game , but you only play as well as your opposition allow you to.And the Boks were hungrier and better. This ABS side is still an amazing team. And they will rise from the fire.I agree with your selection problem 100%.And Razor has to make a few changes.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🏉

I thought S. Barret was pretty quiet as captain at this level, Ardie and Sam Cane were doing a good job managing the ref.

    Hello Mark,
I'm going to be a little negative about the All Blacks and Razor given how this season started and how it is currently playing out.
I understand that a lot of players were done after the world cup, however those that has come through now - only a few showed that they want to play for NZ.
When the season started, NZ barely won against England and yes it was due to Barrett and the unknown factor they had at that time. If NZ played a few games prior to that England game, they could've easily lost one, if not both of those games.
In the second game against Argentina, they were reacting because they lost and that first half for me never painted a clear picture how they are playing and look to move forward, thus I asked you what exactly are they trying or what are their play style. When Argentina cleaned up in the second half NZ were nowhere, really.
In these 2 tests against South Africa, especially the last one, again they were picking a side to react against what happened in the first test. For me, they never looked like a team capable of scoring a try out of general play since South Africa cleaned up after allowing easy tries in the first test. This also showed that maybe getting rid of Leon MacDonald wasn't the best option and maybe Razor needs someone to clash with him and find common ground. An example of this is that South Africa plays the attack that Tony brown brought in, however when needed they change it slightly and fall back on managing the game at key areas.
This past weekend, he played again McKenzie with Jordan at the back, 2 completely different players that doesn't compliment each other.
If he wanted this to work, he needed Barrett at 10.
For some reason Razor is also scared to make big changes, the changes he's made at 9 paid off and I have no idea why he would play people out of position... Sititi of course thats a 8, but you know that.
He should have played a 6-2 since the plan was to target the breakdown and that worked extremely well in the first half as well as in the second.
They might also need someone else to be captain, Scott Barrett doesn't cut it for me.
    I've mentioned this previously.
    McKenzie cannot play under pressure.
    Rieko isn't a 13.
TJ needs to be dropped, he talks so much instead of just doing his job. Slow as well
Jordan must stay at wing if he wants to keep McKenzie at 10.
    Why was Reece even picked?
    There are other issues too.
With the north waiting end of the year, it's a one off game with no option to rectify the previous weeks mistakes.
Worst case will be them losing all of those games. if so, where will that place Razor? as well as NZ rugby?
We've spoke about losing South Africa in Super rugby and Australia isn't really something you can measure yourself against, given how they're going I can't see them beat a top URC team, or the blues for example.
Everyone talks about there's positives, where? NZ are responding to loses, any team will try and be better
We've been in this position when we had Alistair Coetzee, he was hyped up but fell short and Razor should open his mouth to the people at the top otherwise NZ rugby will no longer be a powerhouse. That needs to be done Asap.

@TheBuildKingR as always, reading others opinions and thoughts like this one of yours is refreshing for me. If I may, some respectful response.
A new All Black coach is always on a hiding to nothing. It took Rassie 6 years to get the Boks to where they are, and they are still work in progress.
Razor had to start from ground zero. The perfect storm had just happened. The ABs had lost the World cup final, he had lost the fabric of the team with Whitelock, Retallick, Smith and the driver of the ship Moúnga, all gone.
He´s had to deal with many of the inadequacies of the NZ Rugby administration of what most are beyond our simple view I am sure.
Razor is also dealing with a very conditioned fan base who expect nothing other than comprehensive wins, something I am seeing in many South African fans today, not satisfied with a win any more, they demand more and more. Winning does this.
So to come in as head coach and bring a new group of players and coaches along on the same journey, all the while being examined by one and all across the rugby universe is not an easy task. I am not providing excuses for Razor, I am trying to offer an balance reality check of his world.
By the time the Rugby Championship ends I dont believe we will have the answer, we will need to what for the Northern Tour and to see what has transpired from this rocky start and how it all fairs in Europe and the UK.
      Thank you for your comment

@@insiderugbywithmark Excellent points you made, but if I may.
Rassie took over and had 1 year to prepare when he was appointed, there was not much time left to prepare for the world cup. However he was asked if we can win the world cup and he didn't doubt that we cannot, this was for the 2019 world cup. If I may share the interview link it's here: ua-cam.com/video/J0JxHlT3rZw/v-deo.htmlsi=A_EFxXfr3Ar8sJVe
In that interview, from what I've picked up is that he's already set plans in place, something Razor should have done, knowing he was the next coach.
I understand that some key players were lost, but I don't buy into it that there's not other talented players that cannot man up from the get go.
The fullback from the England test where's he? Same with proctor.
So if you want to put it that it took Rassie 6 years, perhaps to be consistent between World cups yes, however to win when it matters the most, that's been there since he took over.
That said, it's always lovely to have a back and forth on these topics, just shows that we care about our sport. Let's see how the SH hemisphere perform and maybe you can make a lovely the year that was performce videos for each team for us.
      Chat in tomorrow's video

As rules changed around the lineout maules, South Africa now converts it to pick and go on the opponents line which works well.

Great review Mark as always! I feel a lot of the older more experienced players have played themselves out of the squad. It’s high time we bled in some of the new in-form talent. Tosi and Proctor definitely should’ve played in this test. Brilliant effort from the young guns Ratima, Vaa’i and Sititi. Be good to see Love, Narawa and Plummer get a crack, as well as the likes of Kirifi, Lakai, Sotutu, Stevenson etc get the call up.

Great game. The handling errors may be frustrating for us supporters but agree with you Mark, that many of these were a direct result of the speed and intensity of the defensive pressure. Caleb and Jordan definitely back on the wings.
The All Blacks are an incredible team, let's remember that both these lasts tests could have gone either way. There was no white wash. Small moments. However the depth of rugby talent in almost all positions for the Springboks is incredible at the moment and the strength of their bench is a big difference to this team compared to almost any other team. I look forward to the next epic meeting between these 2 sides.
