    oh, what fun
    - in the 70s, I redid the sunvisors from a late 50s / early 60s british vehicle
    - carefully cut the welded plastic seam (razor blade)
    - the inside was powdered foam sheet ( foam sheet turned to dust with age)
    - replaced the foam sheet with a stiff but flexable (1/2" from memory) foam sheet carefully cut to shape. My unit had also had a perimeter wire frame that needed to be set into the foam sheet. This gave it integrity of shape
    - very very carefully and neatly hand sewed the outer cover back together (cut and stiching on the edge were basically hidden in normal circumstances when reinstalled in the vehcle
    - wonderfull job - likely better than new, certanly it lasted twice as long as the original unit
    - only possible due to chemically time stable plastic outer (otherwise I would have needed to make a new outer)
    - there was no cardboard inside mine, the soft feel of the no foam gave it a luxurious and quality feel when operating the sunvisor.
    - I still get a warm feeling inside when I think of this job so well done.

Mike - I just bought some leather covers off eBay for my defenders visors, fitted really well and close with Velcro at the top. Job done.

That builders paper is only $150 AUS per roll here in Australia. Now I can see why hare gluing paper together!

It'll bend much easier if you score the outside of the fold.

Take a look at the Coastal Cushion Co channel. He’s done a fair bit on Landies recently including some headrests. Seems to use plastic sheet for templating.

You could perhaps use Buckram instead of card

If you go to the art supplies shop you can get thick card photo/picture backing, just the right material for this job.

Not here -- I spent most of Friday evening dragging about town trying to find the card - every craft shop etc - could find small bits but not enough for our job

@@BritannicaRestorations Not something easy to send by post either, so you are down to sheet material you can buy in the DIY store, same here i France, no shop stock anything we want, only wine.

Which is not a bad thing! Here you can buy beer and wine in the petrol stations....
(remember - don't drink and drive - you can spill it…)

    Hi Mike,
I am very interested in a couple of things that you have looked at recently.
I have recently fitted a rear view camera/mirror to my Defender, but, found that the sun visors clash with the mirror. Did you have this problem with your mirror?
You said that Defender visors are solid foam, if so I thought about cutting them down then making a slip on cover from 4 way stretch material that I lined the roof with. I would fit them then hand stitch the long edge at the hinge.
It would be good to see how you solved this.
    Cheers Alex Reid

I have mine in my Yaris and not tried it in the Defender yet - no problems in the Yaris apart from the camera is on the left and sticks out a bit too far - takes a bit of getting used to, but no problems with the sun visor

Mike it looks to me that you are making a mountain out of a mole hill if I was doing it I would have just got a piece of 1/4 thick hard board or MDF cut it to fit inside the wire frame secure it with sticky tape then stick the foam onto it and get your mate to cover it with the headliner stuff job done.

    Hey Mike
I am in the process of restoring a 1985 army jeep but am looking for an alternative to the doors in which the spare diesel jerry can was placed.
I don't like the shutters, is there a better alternative on the market?
