She made some powerful statements. People don't realize, not having a good mic and band playing too loud can affect how you perform. Glad she got her voice back. I love me some Miki Howard.
Lol, yea that was Hilarious! But I swear she's telling the truth! Back in the day Tina Turner was indeed "Shaking her tail feather," but nowadays ALL YOU SEE is T & A!!! ...It's okay to cover up ya cookies sometimes! 🍪🚫🙈
This interview is an absolute treasure. I love love love myself some Miki Howard. I used to work in a record store called Turtle's and can remember hearing Miki sing "Come Share My Love" for the very first time. I feel as though I've been sharing her love since that day. Thanks for all the great music, Miki.
I've had the HONOR and PLEASURE of working with Miki singing background for the past decade +. This is a great interview. I LOVE MY MIKI HOWARD. I promise you every rehearsal and every show has been a master class in entertainment and music. She is the REAL DEAL and I love her so much.
Miki's laugh is infectious. I enjoy any interview I see her in. A truly gifted artist that was vocally a staple in my 80s childhood. So glad she's still kicking and winning after all she's endured, personally and professionally.
That was funny as heck how she said it. Reminded me of my aunts in the South. But what she said spoke volumes. The difference between White artists vs Black artists in how the music industry chooses to support their work.
That 'Baby, Be Mine' song and video - Oh! - I can never forget them. So classy. So chic. Miki looked fabulous. Sounded incredible. A perfectly executed marriage of sight and sound. Just beautiful.
She is so next-door, and I like that. I thought when I saw the shades and drink this interview would be a train wreck, but Miki, though clearly enjoys a drink, stood up tall in her personality.
I absolutely love Miki Howard. I have a memory of attending one of her concerts at the now defunct "Club Taboo" in Detroit. During her performance of "Until You Come Back To Me" she passed the mic to a couple of audience members. She got to me and I went for broke. The audience cheered then she grabbed the mic back and jokingly said "you ain't go'n take my show, give me my mic back". Of course she wasn't seriously worried about me. It was all in fun. The audience's reaction and her response did make me feel good, though.
She told no lies! I’ve been echoing everything she said about us having to naked in order to be an artist and disgusting and a shame that we teach this is how to be a “star” to young black girls and even mature black women. Anyways I love Nikki and her vibrant energy. Plus her vocals are amazing.
@@devanshepard9118 exactly, there has been many black women, like Janet, Toni, Mariah, En Vogue, Jade, and Chante Moore. Who were sensual and and have grace with their sexiness. I think now it’s men directing women what is sexy and they have pushed the standard to going all out raunchy. You got Chloe licking microphones and Cardi B and Meghan singing WAP as the spotlighted standard. Parents must do better with music education. I’m grateful to have a father who was a background vocalist for some greats, he and my family instilled what good singers are and true talent.
@@LamLam-ko5ec who was he a background artist for? And yes what's crazy is even the stuff Madonna did in the 90s would be tame by today's standards. I think it's more social media is driving music today then actual fans or the public cause these girls be doing such on instagram but then in interviews be quiet as a mouse
Miki Howard is such a phenomenal woman & her music is timeless & Classic. I own every single one of her albums. A few years back I had the pleasure of meeting her at the ATL city winery. Love Under New Management is my Jam 🔥🔥🔥
My sentiments exactly: why do the black women have to be naked!!! OMG!!! I honestly believe this is why Jasmine Sullivan hasn't gotten the recognition due her: she keeps her clothes on!! A perfect illustration of the racism in music. Great interview!
Even if Miki wasn't a singer, it's quite eerie how much her speaking voice still sounds like Whitney. Similar inflection, pattern that comes off blunt yet to the point in a direct matter-of-fact tone. I mean if somebody wanted to prank you tubers by dubbing over Whitney interviews using the best lines from this Miki interview, I'd be so fooled! Lol 😂 Spot on for the reality show snips with Whitney yelling Bo-bbayyyyy! 🤣
Love this interview and Miki’s laugh is golden❤️. My main takeaway is when Miki said that she lost her voice because of tiredness. I think that “you need to grind and work hard is more emphasized and advertised than resting. You do need to rest and it’s vital that we do it,and not feel guilty while resting and actually enjoy it. Miki is right,Chloe Bailey is sooooo talented, she also produces her own music but doesn’t get that recognition.
How can you not love this lady. Miki is the same beautiful, energetic, fun loving, raw, down to earth, God fearing, brilliant singer that she has always been. She has earned the right to say and do whatever she wants. Love you mama!!!❤️❤️❤️
I said that on Twitter the other day: Whitney would’ve been credited as a writer/producer in all of her records had those albums come out after 2010. “Vocal arranged by Whitney Houston” when she really turned i wanna dance with somebody in a RECORD doesn’t sit right with me.
This is amazing! I love Miki because her personality seems so authentic and easy-going. But I love she brought up the need for black women in the industry to be expected to commodify their sexuality. Then she brings up Betty Carter! Thank you both for this.
I love Miki Howard from the ‘80s until now…I have all over albums and cd’s and I go see her every chance I get. Everybody should own ‘Miki Sings Billie’, classic album …🌸💕🌸💕🌸💕
Miki reminds me of my Aunt Pamela, so damn muxh..its eerie. And just like my Auntie, she dont take NO SHIT..and she aint about the bullshit. She's going to tell the truth or she's going to tell you NOT to be asking her any questions. Thats Miki...and I love her take on what black female performers have to endure, in contrast to what their white female peers, DONT HAVE TO ENDURE. That was about as raw and honest as you can be..and she's right about Adele. When Janet had her baby and lost all the 'baby weight", she came back and had to go RIGHT BACK to skaking her ass and showing her belly button. And we didnt mind it one bit. But when Adele lost all that weight, she actually PUT ON MORE CLOTHES, and made more money than a Mary J Blige. So, Miki is right...
Miki Howard is one of my favorite singers. If Baby Be Mine comes on the radio in the car, I have to pull the car over. Also the Auntie vibes is strong. “She ain’t shaking sh!t” is a helluva line.
I love Mikki Howard to heaven and back again I rode in a cab with her in Atlanta from a salon I used to work in she is amazing and so sweet and can sang and very beautiful in person she is everything to me.facts.
