Hello Adeva!!!! This is Raymond Arenas a.k.a. Eddie Ray, I was one of your writers on the Love and Lust Album where I wrote the lyrics for I’m the One For You. I have the original recording of when you first recorded it in Passaic in the studio with Eddie Perez and MATE and we laid down the reference track. So glad you are doing well and singing within your heart. So many things went down at Smack music, with Kyze , Peanut butter and other artists. Even the writers were taken advantage of in which I had to fight to even get credit from Warner Brothers for that song. I too left Smack in 1991 due to the death of my father. Didn’t know the song was used until 1995 when I received a small royalty check from ASCAP. They got scared because I started asking questions about usage and I was the original copy right claimant. Never got my publishing though, wish I had followed through. I wish you nothing but success and blessings. Your voice was one in a million!! Would gladly be your lyricist again. Take care!!

House Music is not loved anywhere else in the world the way it is loved in South Africa. We live for that four to the floor vibe whether uptempo or midtempo. It makes sense that Louie Vega brought you through to our beautiful country because his first sojourn here in 1997 he was received in a bigger and better way than Americans receive hip hop artists. I'm saddened about Adeva's royalty debacle but she must just know that she was one of the voices, along with many others, who brought joy to South Africans during our time of political and economic oppression.
This has touched me so profoundly!!! I always wondered where you went!!! Another case of the artist being used as a vulnerable asset!!! I'm so happy to see you still as beautiful & wondrous as ever. You tell the world with those God given lungs you have got.....I so much respect you, you held your principles & morality in life!!! What a beautiful soul, Love from UK ♥️♥️♥️
Adeva. The queen! My love. My heart, my soul. Beefy vocals, fierce rhythms. We were so lucky to have grown up in the 80s. I salute you for giving so much of your love...in the clubs and in the classroom.
You never heard of Adeva until two weeks ago? Dayum! I was only 12 when I first heard her; first record came out through New Jersey Garage label Easy Street Records circa '87 if I'm not mistaken. Early Smack productions and Paul Simpson productions et al were truly dope. Happy days.
Sheeeet... Adeva was Da Bomb.. I was a straight up Philly Hip Hop head but in 1985 during my freshman year at Cheyney State, I started seeing a girl from North Jersey that turned me on to House.. I had read about it when Rolling Stone did a piece on the Chicago scene. Then over the next couple of years me and my boys learned to go to the jams that featured " House or Club Music" because they had the finest girls in the metro.. They were eclectic, dressed eccentric and were very creative and artsy. They were free spirits on the dance floor and loved to have a great time.. No hang-ups... The guys were pretty cool too.. & there was rarely ever fights, and never any shootouts and that BS after the parties or shows. Those House Heads taught us Hip Hop Hardrocks from West Philly and The Bronx, etc; how to relax, let our guards down and have another type of fun on the dance floor. Adeva, Xena, Fonda Rae,Colonel Abrams, were highly pivotal in that movement. #lovedthe80's
Wowwww I’ve always loved her as a kid. Never heard the song “I Deserve to Breathe” before..but Lord, how telling and prophetic the words in that title reflect today’s climate in the USA. God rest, Pariss’ soul. Continue to live thru your awesome mom and her vocals!

Queen Adeva, may I just say I am so incredibly touched by your amazing and powerful story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! It's not always easy being open and vulnerable, letting people into your private life and also your pain. I am from Newark New Jersey and when you mentioned the Peppermint Lounge I literally jumped up off my seat and started yelling LOL because that used to be my spot along with Club Sensations and Club Zanzibar in Newark 😁. I would be in the clubs dancing to your music along with all of the other greats! Thank you for your gifts of music that you have shared with us (the world). And as someone who has had my taste of the music industry as well I would also like to add that you are very much on point with this grimy industry and how they will do you. But I love that you were triumphant and have overcome so much and are still shining! Again thank you so much for this documentary story and yes Adeva you are indeed the Queen of House Music!! 😍💪🙏❤️
This has to be one of the best documentaries in a long time that celebrates one of the most innovative Dance artists ever to hit both the music and club scenes. I fondly remember Adeva as a teenage kid growing up in NY. Her music dominated the radio airwaves of the memorable iconic stations 107.5 WBLS and 98.7 KISS FM. Not to mention, how I always heard her dazzling and energetic stage shows. Again, a story that's been long overdue in celebrating one of the most powerhouse voices...ever..period!✊
I loved this! I had the pleasure of meeting Adeva when she performed for Deep Sugar in Baltimore. She has such a warm spirit and definitely brought the house DOWN!! I commend her for standing firm on her virtue.
RESPECT TO YOU ADEVA, YOU HAVE REALLY GONE THROUGH SOME ADVERSITY WHILE TRYING TO MAKE YOUR CAREER. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND PROTECT YOU ALWAYS ALWAYS!!!
Thank you soooooo much for this. I loved this woman's talent. She was definitely one of the many unsung. Her story appears to be all too common with artists in the music industry of getting ripped off. I hope she has a change of heart and does another album. This desperately needs people with a voice like hers. That can actually sing.
Saw her perform in a small dance club in Germany back in 91. She was so cool and down to earth. I remember her telling the crowd she had a bad cold yet she still sang live and sounded amazing. She even gave autographs! Fun times of my youth!
Awesome interview, awesome lady! (and it goes without saying awesome songs too!). She definitely is the original "Queen of House" and her version of Respect is a belter! Though I was very saddened to learn of how she had been financially abused and especially the loss of her son at such a young age. I wasn't aware of the hardships she had faced until now but in some ways it only deepens my RESPECT for her. I'm glad she was able to find comfort and joy in teching and I hope she gets to make that gospel album one day depite her (understandable) distrust of record labels. I Thank You Miss Diva... much Respect to you! 👍👏❤
LOVE it!!!!♥️ One thing "Adeva" fans won't get to experience is "Pat Daniels", gospel singer. She was Yolanda Adams BEFORE Yolanda Adams. Two things came to mind watching this. One, I feel fortunate to have witnessed her talent as a singer before she started making records. I was in Canaan Baptist Church Youth choir with her and watched her completely SHUT DOWN an entire gospel program and turn a church upside down. The second thing that came to mind is that, it never occurred to any producer she worked with to at least EXPLORE doing a gospel album???🤨🤔 How short-sighted is that? I guess they were too busy stealing her money.🤷🏽♂️🤦🏾♂️ Smh. Anyway, I'm glad she's still performing and I really hope she records a gospel album!
This was a BEAUTIFUL tribute to this Queen. 👸🏿 🙌🏾 I remember how thrilled I was when I first heard “I Deserve to Breathe” and I KNEW that voice right away! No mistaking it. And how relevant are those words Today here in June w the current police brutality and political climate. Im happy she is happy teaching and found a balance. But please dont stop making music we love you!
Wow, I remember Adevs being huge in the late 80s early 90s. I'm surprised "Bluey" Maunick from Incognito hasn't reached out to feature her yet. I CERTAINLY understand her feelings about the industry and glad that she's teaching. Those kids have no idea!😊
Love you Adeva you are amazing and so is your story. Keep singing and teachng . Growing up in the ,90s your song I thank you is apart of the sound track of my teenage life...
Adeva has been a singer i've wondered about. I have at least 2 albums and several remixed singles of hers. Sorry to hear about her son and the backstabbing record execs that did her wrong. I'm also glad to hear about her teaching career.
What a POWERFUL and inspiring journey! I loved Adeva ever since I heard her! I can’t believe she didn’t get to see the money that was due to her for sharing her gift and all her hard work, makes me feel quite sick. I will definitely buy that gospel album if it has come out! Thank you Adeva for sharing your gift and uplifting so many of us. ❤️🙏🙏

I remember her SOOOO WELL!! Late 80's early 90's dancing to her music in the clubs...great memories for me..."I Thank You" has to be my favourite tune from her. Same here. I’m glad I know of her now. Thank you!
You never heard of Adeva until two weeks ago? Dayum! I was only 12 when I first heard her; first record came out through New Jersey Garage label Easy Street Records circa '87 if I'm not mistaken.
Early Smack productions and Paul Simpson productions et al were truly dope.
Happy days.
I don't know alot about House Music! Herd alot about it. But I've never herd of her. Great woman Powerful Entertainer!
Frankie and David Morales tore that “Shouldve Been me”up....
My God Frankie/Morales Piano w her voice pure heaven 🙌🏾
Wowwww I’ve always loved her as a kid. Never heard the song “I Deserve to Breathe” before..but Lord, how telling and prophetic the words in that title reflect today’s climate in the USA. God rest, Pariss’ soul. Continue to live thru your awesome mom and her vocals!
I heard the song on one of Louie Vega's shows right her on UA-cam.
I love Adeva I have her debut Adeva, Love or Lust, and New Direction. Still in rotation on my playlist My favorite house artist the Queen of House !!!!!!
Please make more of this! Loved every minute of watching this.
When she said her son passed, I couldn't watch no more.
not the one I gave up my dreams to be with my kids and raise them I couldn't leave them they needed me so I stuck with them until they grew up and now I can fulfill my singing dreams etc they are my priority thank God 🙏🏽❤️😇
Yasss Adeva! I love her spunk. I really enjoyed watching this! 😁
You never get over the loss of a loved one...you only learn to live with it... concentrate on how he lived versus his transition... I don't wish this on my worst enemy... you are a miracle 🙏🏾
Her authenticity as an artist and as a creative was captured beautifully! I can't wait to see more of your work!!
God Bless you Adeva, love your story. Thank you for this wonderful Documentary. 👍
You were the one who introduced me to Adeva, so thank you so much! This interview was very well executed, and I'm glad that she's been able to do both things she loves even after the pain.
Great documentary! I learned some things I didnt know. And your skin...still gorgeous Sis.
I love this beautiful lady. I want nothing but God’s best for her and her family.😘
I'm so sorry about your son. :-( God bless you, Ms. Daniels-Wright. I would buy your gospel album.
OMG! I am absolutely lost for words with this documentary. Thank you sooooo much for making it and letting us watch it. I still remember when she released "I Thank You" (among many other singles). I will always keep her 12" singles in my collection, they will always be special! It doesn't matter if I am sad or happy, listening to her always makes me want to sing along.
I love Adeva! She is still a powerhouse singer!! I’ve had the honor and privilege to sing with her in church!! Trust and believe, she’s STILL got it!! Great documentary!!!
Adeva is built from head to toe like a Yoruba NIgerian WOman, it is written all over her face " I am Yoruba"!!!! Loved her since 1989
She looks nigerian af
@@geegod9122 right??? is not crazy?? even if she go to yoruba land they won't be able to tell she is American, they will all great her in Yoruba, she is going to start crying so much when she will look around and realized her super dark skin, facial and bone structure is that of a Yoruba woman, because they all have these similar features!!!!!
" I thank you" for this documentary. So happy Adeva's story is being told. Truly a wonderful video !
What a great documentary!!! Amazing singer and amazing person.
Excellent I loved this interview. What a beautiful and strong presence she has. I cant wait for this gospel alb6. Her voice is epic. HURRY !
So inspiring, love your music. And so down to earth working with kids, really amazing. Best wishes and thank you so much❤🙏🙂👍💪❤️
Bless your heart sister😘😘. Thank you for being a stand-up beautiful black woman. You’re full of integrity and that’s what’s missing nowadays.
Great documentary. This brought back some found memories
She did a gospel song with Frankie Knuckles and Ricky Dillard in 1995 called, "Walkin" and it was a hit on the charts!
@@BlackMusicArchive Wow... You're right. I remember that. 🤗
this just made my day .. Adeva is a stand alone classic .. glad to see and hear that she still standing strong
This was a BEAUTIFUL tribute to this Queen. 👸🏿 🙌🏾
I remember how thrilled I was when I first heard “I Deserve to Breathe” and I KNEW that voice right away! No mistaking it.
And how relevant are those words Today here in June w the current police brutality and political climate.
Im happy she is happy teaching and found a balance. But please dont stop making music we love you!
I bought her cd when it came out. We had mutual friends since she was from paterson
I have always loved your music. Sorry for your struggles. You have an amazing musical legacy.
I love it !! Adeva is among my favorite singers of all time her voice is amazing,. i was lucky enough to see her live in ATL and i was joyfully amazed with her. To me she's an Icon. I recall every time I would go the the record store I would look for any thing from Adeva that i did not already have. Here is love to the House Diva the Queen of House.
don t let it show on your face...tha ts what I call a good and powerful vocalist
NJ here and so proud to know you Queen of House!
Have loved your voice the minute I heard you in '89 with RESPECT
Thank you for sharing your voice with us and your documentary!
Beautiful woman and beautiful soul ❣️
I love you Adeva . You brought so much happiness in my 20s and still do . I respect you.
I found your channel last night and i am gorging on the contents, Adeva was a part of the soundtrack to growing up in the UK along with Inner City and Ten City. She is fabulous and yes i agree she is the Queen of House music. All hail the Queen!
This is a superbly informative and entertaining documentary. Having the story told by the living legend (Adeva) herself, truly validates it's authenticy. Remarkable job. 👍🏿👏🏿
WOOOOOWEEEEE! House Music Legend! You heard! I'm from Newark NJ and the House Music is REAL! MAD RESPECT for Adeva!
Back then as a DJ, in my 'mind's eye, I always wanted to hear Adeva and Colonel Abrams (RIP) do something together. What could have been...
I love her as a Diva, I love her as a woman. Such a beautiful soul! ❤️
Excellent documentary. Thank you Milik Kashad :)
YAY! You introduced me to Adeva and I've been in love with her ever since. Excellent production quality as always. Thanks for shining a light on these women and their dynamic talents!
ADVEA..... COME BACK WE NEED YOU!!! WE LOVE YOU!! ♥️♥️🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲
I’m so glad you shared Adeva’s story with us. It must have been hard hitting the charts and not seeing any money. Too bad art and business clash like this. Too bad she is so hurt. I wish she could know that she did touch many people’s lives. She changed mine. R E S P E C T. The one and only Adeva.
Never b4 I had paid attention to the vocals skills on house music but now I see how powerful it is
I'm so happy this doc was made! We love you Adeva!!
This was so well put together. Glad to hear her story. Thank you!
I remember her SOOOO WELL!! Late 80's early 90's dancing to her music in the clubs...great memories for me..."I Thank You" has to be my favourite tune from her. When she talked about the people that she's lost in her personal life and then she lost her son...OMG...SOOOO SAD!! My son is nearly 18 and I think I'd be in the same place as her if that have happened to me...God Bless You Adeva!! Xxx
