You guys should sign the broken boards and auction them for charity…find charities that you guys like maybe ones that clean the ocean, or ones that support some of the communities you guys like to visit on surf trips or really anything that you guys connect with and feel is worthy to support.

That Parker comment regarding back side turns made me think of something Candy Calhoun taught us in the 80's... open your shoulders to face the lip and become "less backside" when you go up into the lip then crush it! You're backside barrel riding at backdoor is looking so polished! Killing it!

Hey Koa, what about collecting them at the end of each season, repairing and then shipped to some of the surf schools in developing surf nations and communities to get boards to people who otherwise couldn't afford them. There are some epic programs in South Africa for starters, but many all over that would love repaired boards from pros like you and your friends, and opportunities to travel and spread the stoke like the Gadauskas (Gadauski) and Mikey Feb did a few years ago with their board drives.

I think before deciding what to do with broken boards, we should do a blind placebo controlled study with pro surfers and thicker glass jobs. Have pros rank their favorite boards similar to stab in the dark, but instead the shape of the board and type of foam is exactly the same and the only difference is the glass job thickness. Then see if there truly is a noticeable difference in preference and if not, maybe don’t use such light glass on high performance boards so they break less often!

That was so sick, broke down parker’s wind up and then you went out and did a sick one. It’s not easy trying knew maneuvers but you just study the clip over and over and keep trying those tail flicks you’ll have them down. Every time I see those water shots from the channel at pipe I just get this feeling I can’t really describe. Then you get slammed like you did on that one, that was heavy. Over the falls straight to the reef. Glad your ok can’t wait for more pipe I know it’s coming ! See you next time ya Koa 💪🏼🤙🏼

The reef is scary, I paddled out there once on a small day, once was enough. And if we saw a Hui sticker on a board or black trunk guys, we would go somewhere else. Koa's lineage is royalty.
Repair the broken boards and give them to kids who can't afford them.
They look cool on fences or as a fence or as a garden edge border .
They have a story to tell and are a type of time capsule
Certainly no shortage of broken boards on the North Shore .

Curious why the guy at 15:10 had to be burned? Would love to see more pros giving the laymen some courtesy in general (more often then not, I see a lot of professionals paddling around folks back to the peak, burning people, etc. when it's totally undeserved). Surfing is the only outlet for some of us...and we generally have less time to do it, don't get paid to do it, and don't get the opportunity to do it at all the amazing surf spots around the world. I dunno the story here (maybe it was your turn, and that guy wasn't respecting his spot in line...), but just a friendly reminder: try to spread the courtesy if it's being given to you.

I read an article a few years ago about a guy in Kauai (I think) that uses worms to breakdown and recycle old surfboard. They eat the foam and convert it to compost, much like they do wood. You should look into it.

My ex made a belly board, "the chicklet" for me by sanding the broken end of the nose and gel coating it. I had a lot of fun with it.
I've got an idea: don't glass your boards so light. you surf heavy waves all the time, I think it would be worth it to you so you could be more familiar with your boards (breaking them less frequently). Plus it is more sustainable to glass boards heavier so they break less often (surfboards are energy and resource intensive petroleum products). Its a great idea to make some use of broken boards. (I'm not really sure what that would be - I suppose you repair them and donate them to local groms but I'm not sure thats worth the effort). but in addition to doing that I recommend you get your boards glassed heavier.

I mentioned buying the top part of the broken board with "This is Livin" and your autograph over a year ago. I also reached out to your brother, Nathan, and John, but I got no reply. I am still up for it and I'm many other people would also. Phil Goodrich is an artist and surfer who now teaches at a surf resort in Indonesia painted "Pipeline" on the top of one of his broke boards for me and it is incredible. Maybe a local artist could do the same for you.

KOA! so for the broken boards I have a couple ideas. When I was I kid, I came home one day an my dad had made a pool table light out of my old surf board. Ive got a few design ideas on how to make them super and modern. them to bars all over the world. We can also offer wall ART with busted boards and hook up an LED light within and include autographed photos to be incorporated in. Next wood be full Epoxy tables. In-case the boards in clear coolness leave the gap, incorporate lights and what not. Ive got crazy cool ideas! hit me up lets chat
