  • My story (3 minute read):
I’m Julian. I’m a normal guy who just randomly discovered the path of discipline and self-improvement. I’m pretty obsessive, so I went all in.
    Here’s my timeline:
10-13: Loser, video gamer (addicted to clash of clans)
14: Failing in school, despite having 6+ hours of extra tutoring each week. And failed the most prestigious selective school entrance test, disappointing my asian parents
15: Moved to a new school, and was motivated to change my identity as a failure. The teachers said I would never get good grades ever…this pissed me off
16-18: Went all in and focused on getting high grades, sacrificed health (very underweight), sacrificed relationships (didn’t really talk to friends apart from at school). However, I ended up graduating with the highest score possible in Australia (99.95 ATAR or top 0.05% of the entire country). This felt like the pinnacle of my life, the culmination of everything I worked so hard for... (or so I thought...)
19: Started university, studying Bachelor of Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne (wanting to study medicine after, fulfilling the asian prophecy). Started my first UA-cam channel sharing tips that helped me get good grades (hit 1k subscribers after 1 year). Despite this, I felt lonely, left my high school friendship circle and didn’t have many friends
20: Anxious, depressed, heartbroken by a girl. I would watch self-help content but never take action. Just mindless consumption. Getting good grades used to be my identity, but now that no longer motivated me, so I felt completely lost. So I decided to move overseas and study at The University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League), partied, and drank a lot. Then, picked up boxing/gymming and decided to take physical health much more seriously. Luckily found a tight-knit group of friends. Started enjoying life more, seeing that there is more to life than getting high grades and studying medicine (big surprise I know)
21: Hit 10K subscribers on UA-cam by the end of the year. Got into my first relationship. Received an offer to study medicine at the University of Melbourne
22: Taking a gap year from medicine because I realised I wanted to explore other options first before dedicating 10+ years of my life to becoming a doctor.
    Physically and mentally much healthier
I am now working at a startup as a social media strategist, where I help manage a creator’s UA-cam channel (who has 800K+ subscribers)
Currently on the path of search of meaning, grinding hard, and trying to experience as much of life as possible.
Stopped making UA-cam videos on my other channels because my goal was not to get more subscribers or views
This channel is solely dedicated to documenting my journey and learning out loud…so perhaps even you reading this right now… may be inspired to learn from my mistakes, and take the lessons without the scars
