my daughter turned me on to Tyler and I learned one of his songs on acoustic. I found Billy last year w the “ dust in a baggie “ video and he’s brought me to Bella Fleck , Molly Tuttle and others ! friends that share new music ; are the best friends
@andrew rowe at the rate Billy Strings is going hes gonna be on his own level to be honest. I mean he went from heavy metal to straight bluegrass so this is only like 1% of what he can do
They actually did play a show together, back this past February! Or at least a little bit of a show in Nashville, it's not quite as traditional a sound as some of Strings' bluegrass or Childer's traditional country, but its a pretty cool bluesy/rock-country-style piece!
every artist who's doing a song cover always says, "let's see if i can remember the words" before they absolutely hit the performance out of the ball park.
I think the Joan Baez version (on David’s Album) best evokes the truly mournful spirit of the song. Phillips never recorded the song, never sang it in public, never accepted any royalties from it - it was too personal.
Pretty funny scrolling through all the comments, and it's largely the same handful, so if nobody had said it, this would've been my comment. To me, Buddy and Julie Miller's version is THE version (among many great interpretations).
I'm so sad not many people know of Tyler Childers and Billy Strings. They're single handedly keeping country alive for me
They both sell out every show and billy just won a Grammy! I’d say they’re doing well!
Tyler kinda screams too loud for us down here.

@andrew rowe actually Steve Young did but either way Utah Phillips wrote it.
Love this song, beautiful melody .I thought Tony Rice's version was my favorite but Billy plays and sings it so well !
BEATRICE PERRIER Tyler Childers is by far my favorite. Check it out.
Tyler and Billy play it in the style Of JD Crowe and The New South / Tony Rice
@@axisbold1967 and JD Crowe and the New South played it in the style of Flatt & Scruggs
Billy Badass. He makes life so much cooler than it was before he on came on the scene.
Beautiful ❤
One of favs from Tyler. Thanks 🙏🏻. Love to see a show with these two playin
Don Piano Tyler didn’t write this song FYI. It’s an old Utah Phillips song made famous by Steve Young

A song by Utah Phillips.
Steve Young and his son did a great version of it as well.

Willie Watson did a great job with this too. Bout go make a Billy Strings playlist lmao.
Amazing
Damn good!
And I thought Tyler Childers was the only one that could nail this... amazing job billy
Willie Watson too😉
Haha childers couldn't pick Billy's nose
You've never heard of JD Crowe and the New South huh ? Tyler and Billy copied JD Crowes style for this song.
@@axisbold1967 yes I have.. but billy is just awesome
@@axisbold1967 the original gangsters were tony rice Ricky skaggs jd Crowe and jerry Douglass lol and somebody on bass

Of course Billy covers this song. Is there any song he doesnt play well?
-One of the better covers of Rock Salt and Nails by Utah Phillips. Check out Joan Baez and Rosalie Sorrells.
Rock Salt and Nails, written by Willie Watson - great performance
I like Buddy Miller version.

Jd Crowe and the new south. Its dont get better than that.
No need to compare. You either like it or you don't. Why be sorry?
