Just came across this video, and then I saw all the other videos you’ve made. Your content is really what nurses, students, etc need. As a RN this is the stuff u need to know. Not saying others on youtube isn’t showing good info, cause it is, but your even showing the basics like applying a transdermal patch or how to use an insulin pen. In the real world, people just assume ur suppose to know this stuff even when ur a new grad. Thanks so much!!!!

Hi! I’m wondering why a blood clot would be a contraindication for administering tPA (as you explain at 2:06)? Isn’t its purpose to break down blood clots? Thank you for making these videos!

I recently had a PICC myself and simply used heprin to prevent clotting.

Heparin isn’t foolproof. Occasionally it can still happen. I hope your PICC days are over at this point, and you’re feeling well.

did you open and prepare a aTP vial with 50 mg/50 ml and then you take only 2 ml of the aTP you already prepared ? the question is how come you get that dose on a small not labeled vial? otherwise good video, good tips, congrats.

according to Uworld, The nurse should "scrub the hub" with alcohol or chlorhexidine/alcohol for 10-15 seconds. This should be done before flushing, drawing blood, or administering medication.

YESSSS!!! Mayo Clinic did a study several years ago that minimum of 15 seconds for scrubbing the hub! I know all you amazing nurses are busy and over worked but that extra few seconds do matter in preventing line infections! Those extra seconds prevent a week in the hospital and took my body a year to recover. The reason I've only had one infection in 13+ years is meticulous line care.

Can I ask a question, when you pull the air out and then inject it back with TPA, will it cause air embolism, or is it because it's a negative pressure, no air enters the line? I am just confused on that one step

i noticed that too. i usually don't pull air out and just push the 2ml of TPA in. not sure what your hospital policy is.
