As your bay doors open their AWACS probably said "The bumblebee that was traveling at mach 2 has transformed into a bicycle. Nevermind, it's a bumblebee again. Threat neutralized."
Ah, the venerable B-52! My grandpa had over 2500 hours in the BUFF and retired as an instructor pilot. She's old and not the prettiest gal at the ball, but she's been doing her job with distinction for nearly 70 years.
@@patmahomesisthegoat1622 I still have a couple of his instruction manuals for the BUFF, including how to deploy the nuclear armed Hound Dog cruise missile. She definitely struck fear into Vietnamese forces during Rolling Thunder I & II.
For people who don't understand why pilots talk about 'Probability of Kill' rather than range is because the range of any given missile is extremely variable based on launch conditions: how fast the launch jet is flying, how high they are flying, the altitude of the enemy bandit and finally their aspect. It's not like surface-to-surface munitions where both the launch platform and targets are relatively stationary, the relative movement of combatants in the air makes figuring out ranges pretty complicated.
I think it’s also unclear to most that radar cross section (RCS) as a radius is also a statistical measure. The likelihood of getting a solid return is modeled as a probability of a random radar scan hitting a target of that radius (more or less). So the PK of each target is drastically precluded by getting a lock on something your radar will only get occasional back scatter from. I’m not saying this clearly, but everyone’s making jokes about bumblebees on radar screens which is a fun thought but not now it works.
Pk is usually a function of range. Also, whether the target is moving towards or away from the launch platform (jet or sam or manpad or ship) or moving towards and finally, whether the target is manoeuvring or not (big arse bomber, or a small fighter). Usually all these are going to factor into Pk. I can't remember if altitude is a significant variable, but you could probably find that out by googling it.
@@BrianTRice77 RCS is also affected by which face of the airframe is being presented to a radar. I don't understand all the details of modern radar, but I can understand when they say that various VHF bands are most susceptible to scattering only within a 60 degree cone of the nose of an aircraft and that L band radars are the least susceptible to scattering of 1mm wavelengths. But if we assume that GCI is using older radars and they happen to get a view of the side of stealth platform, that is where stealth is least useful. Also, FLIR and IRST are useful in tracking stealth aircraft travelling towards it, due to the heat generated by the compressed air when at supersonic speeds. At supercruise velocity of Mach 1.6, air temp reaches 180 degrees Celsius dropping to 120 Celsius at Mach 1. This makes detection possible at 80 nautical miles. But that's only relevant for an air platform searching for stealth aircraft. Lastly, the F-35 has a number of restrictions when it comes to stealth (that the Raptor doesn't have). These include its stealth performance being degraded (almost useless) in the rain and the stealth coating starting to peel off at supersonic velocities. Last I heard, F-35 fleets were restricted from supersonic velocities for any bursts longer than a minute. All of these are going to affect RCS or detectability in significant ways. Best option is to keep using stealth aircraft ONLY against 3rd world nations.
@@Raz.C range and ALTITUDE, especially considering that at high altitude you can use non pulse doppler modes on radar meaning they cant then be notched down low using PD mode you can survive a launch even if you cross into NEZ if you manage to hit the notch fast enough, up high you are simply toast - you cant run, you cant dodge and there is no notching to save you
Ironically, 52 years ago I "felt" a B-52 strike about 5 miles away from me in Vietnam. A picture appeared in my brain of a wheel a mile in diameter rolling across the countyside, destroying everything it rolled over. Very scary, and I can still feel it, all these years later.
We should never have reduced their numbers under strategic arms treaties. 744 built, 72 in operation today. They were the #1 thing the USSR feared and were first on the chopping block during arms negotiations.

@UorpvxOboela Exactly, and anyone thinking of sending a BUFF on a mission without air cover would be deserving of a court martial. Bombers, even during WW1, never flew without fighters to escort, even if it was part of the way there.
I’m liking the US/China scenarios. It’s eerie to think about the possibility that these encounters may happen at some point if tensions keep rising. So, I like the immersion these encounters provide. Great stuff as always👍🏼

Please keep these Raptor vids coming! It's really cool watching the evenly matched BVR and guns only merge vids but seeing scenarios of what the Raptor is made to do...annihilating multiple bandits without ever being spotted is just so satisfying lol
I imagine that you'd probably have a wingman, too, which would be 12 total. That would be pretty devastating. Especially if there were F-35s in the mix.
As I said before, they could also have an F-15EX or two in the bomber formation, loaded up with like 20 AIM-120Ds, just slinging them at the F-22/35's targets from like 90 miles
GS alluded to the "revolver for AMRAAMS," but you could see that instead with an F-52 or F-15EX. Have it loaded with a spindle of missiles that are guided by an F22/F35 radar to their targets - they are just the gun truck for the spotter
While i love dogfights absolutely nothing beats a realish world scenario where you have a mission and have to incorporate all different manners of offensive flying. Keep the mission based videos coming
The F22 is the John Cena of fighters... you can't see it. Imagine a B21 carrying a ton of AMRAAM's, and an F22 escort just in case things get up close and personal.
Flanker Driver "I think I've got something on radar - it's small - maybe a bumble bee - but it's really weird - It's cruising at Mach 1.2 and at 37,000 ft. " seconds later "Shit I think that bee just fire a missile at us!"
Nice. 9 kills, almost double ace in a day. So, one question about the F-22 flight model in DCS. Does it do supercruise? Because from what I've read, the ability to supercruise is one of the hidden advantages, just as big a factor as stealth, perhaps.
I understand, the enemy could not see F-22 because of stealth, but could they not detect your radar scanning and locking them, or the missiles approaching them?
Your thinking is correct, but there are some strategies to try to remain stealthy and not show up as obviously on RWR until it's too late for the target to evade. In particular, I've heard (non-classified rumor) that the F-22 will change the wavelength of its radar beam thousands of times per second to not be an obvious source on RWR, and that it will use a relatively low transmit power to track targets. As for the AMRAAM's, when they're launched, they use the guidance information from the F-22 until they're in their terminal phase, and then they switch on their radar. At that point, the AMRAAM's will definitely show on RWR, but by that time they're too close for the targets to defend effectively. The original idea was for the F-22 to primarily use infrared (IRST) to find and track targets, which would allow it to keep its radar turned off while moving into position to fire. As I understand that wasn't done, however there have been some recent talks about adding IRST capability to the platform. Another thing to consider is that the F-22 can accept targeting data from something else- AWACs, F-35, another F-22- and that would allow it to get close with its radar off until after it had launched. I think the real (classified) strategies will be a combination of these, and hopefully a few things that haven't been publicly thought of or discussed.
Loved it!! The Raptor is a beast!! Can't imagine what the NGAD will be like. Shooting out the AWACS engines was brilliant but why shop at just three? Hoping for A-10 air to ground in the near future. Thanks for sharing.
it must be super terrifying to be that AWACS just seeing all your planes disappear off radar when you just thought it was just a squad of B-52s with no air support, suddenly your engines start to go out and then get shredded by 1000 bullets.

So two things GS: 1- that B52 drop was the prettiest bomb run I’ve ever seen 2- the way you executed the AWACS would absolutely have you in front of a board of inquiry lol that was cruel and unusual punishment. These kinds of videos are my favorite. Seeing the boming run at the end was so satisfying!
The F22 was playing with it's food at the end.
Awacs guy after the 3rd engine: Oh he`s just shooting the engines, we can surely glide to a safe ejection or crash land
Love these daily uploads of great content. These missions you do are awesome
I love this so much. Keep flying the Raptor as primary plane
They just test fired the AIM 120 D3 off an F16...so AMRAAM could get much scarier soon.
I would absolutely be terrified of a bumble flying at me at Mach 1.3
This bumblebee fires bullet ants. And it stings and burns. Hard.
Could've had an F-15EX in the bomber formation slinging AIM-120Ds at your targets from 90 miles away
F-22 is kind of a secret agent. Actually you assassinated everyone with the Raptor. I'd love to watch more content like that. Thank you for the upload!
