I purchased a cz527 in 7.62x39 to have a cheap to shoot bugout gun. Using the cheap Tula 124 gr steel case ammo, I consistently shot 5 shot groups that averaged less than 1-1/4 inches with many grouping at just under an inch. Using the Hornady Black ammo, all 5 shot groups were at 1” or just under. My only complaint is the bolt is difficult to cycle smoothly, especially with the lacquer finished steel case ammo. But the little carbine is very accurate. Especially with the set trigger. My best 5 shot group, incidentally, was with the Tula, with a cluster of touching holes. I am using a Vortex 4-12x42 scope and couldn’t be happier at how well it shoots for only 18 cents per round! BTW, maybe your accuracy issues have something to do with your gunsmithing. There’s no way that gun needs a muzzle brake!
The muzzle brake isn't about the recoil, it is about mounting my SureFire suppressor. I'm having some work done to it soon. Trying to clean up the barrel and see if that improves it. Thanks for watching.
They are pretty great rifles... The synthetic stock I think is the way to go too. Which they offer on the suppressor ready model now. As nice as the wood is, I think the synthetic is just more durable. Thank you for watching!
Dont buy this rifle....mine has been back to cz 3 times and is still $hit....in australia gunshops are full of these second hand.....service from the importer here in Australia was woeful...these guns have hopeless quality control and bad backup service.....i hate cz
Keep in mind that this rifle was designed to fire AK ammo at .311 diameter. A lot of the brass cases and western branded ammo uses a .308 diameter projectile which you won’t get decent accuracy out of. Also, most x39 ammo is really only capable of 2 MOA. If you find something that shoots under 2 inches at 100m pretty consistently then stick with that!
I reload for mine and it shoots speer 308 projectiles just fine.....this gun is just a lemon....the stock is broken.....these guns have soooooooo many problems....ok mine is accurate but it wont feed rounds properly and the magazine is always falling out.....these guns are probably built by drunks
Can we please get some more updates on this setup? I have a Ruger Ranch in 7.62x39 with a Sandman K and Sandman S to run on it. However, it has been sitting as I don’t know what scope I want to put on it. It will be for inside of 150 yard pig and deer hunting. Any suggestions?
I'll work on it Keith, I put a new optic on it not long ago. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get some time and video with it in the next week. Because of the round and intended use, I would look at a low power variable. Maybe a 1-6x that has some bullet drops in the reticle. They don't need to match the cartridge, just something you can use as you experiment with loads and ranges.
An awesome, yet potentially exspensive mod to the CZ 527 would be to inlet the stock, and modify the reciever/action to enable the carbine to accept Magpul AK 7.62 5, or 10 round magazines.
That would be pretty awesome. And probably pretty expensive. :) I am not sure if the bolt and feed ramp would be able to strip a round off of a staggered magazine. Would be damn cool if it did though...
Kit Badger Check out Boyds stocks for the CZ 527, and see if the machinist that cut your Glock for the RMR has any input on modding the 527 for AK Mags
Rocking the liberty patch ftw. I still love that gun. I've gotten decent groups with both hornady fxx___xxx whatever and just standard Wolf mil steel on the Ruger. Didn't measure them, just zeroing a scope with the ammo I had, but would conservatively say 1.5" group at 100yd.
Is it just the 7.62 CZ carbine that has stock problems? Seriously considering one in 223 because of the simplicity factor but will just go a Ruger Ranch if I m paying good money for cracked stocks. Across a number of different forums I see mention of cracked stocks.
CZ sells a synthetic stock for the 527 on their web store. I have the synthetic on my suppressor ready model and its perfect for utility/hunting purposes.
I actually took a look at those and called CZ. They don't make them for my model. Reason being, the barrel bulges out where the factory iron sights are. So it won't fit without some modification. And they were sold out... I may opt for one from Boyd's Gunstocks though. Thanks for watching!
Same deal with Boyd's stocks. They don't make one for the carbine version so you would have to cut out an area in the stock where the rear sight band sits.
I just ordered a 527 in 300 blackout ,and because I love blued steel and walnut the most and this one comes with a synthetic stock, I am considering buying a wood stock for it from cz.Do you know what happened to your stock and why a piece of the wood broke on it ?
I am not sure what the issue was with my stock. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say temperature swings maybe, and moisture. I think those 2 conspired to break part of the stock behind the front bedding block.
Ivan, I like what you done to the 527 so far. I do like the classic look with your modern updates, I think a new stock is the way to go. Looking forward to what's next. What ear protection are you using?
Ya Denis, I am leaning pretty heavy on a new stock. As far as the hearing protection, I was using some of the SureFire Sonic Defenders Ultra: amzn.to/2ykxs9r Before too long I'll do a review of them.
Ivan , I normally have nothing but good things to say about PPU ammo as it shoots good in just about everything else I've tried it in . This exact same stuff in my CZ carbine shot just about the same as yours . Which is to say , unimpressive ! I would advise trying something that you know shoots better before judging your stock work . I think there's a better than average chance it's this ammo . Enjoy your video's , have fun with your carbine , I know I love mine in 7.62 and .223 . I also have the varmint heavy barrel in .204 ruger and the standard American in .22 hornet as well as the 452 in .22 L.R and .22 magnum . They're great little rifles .
Same issues with PPU huh? That is weird. On the up side, I have replaced the stock and got back out there. On the down side I haven't been overwhelmed with the groups I've shot so far, haha. We'll see as I get more time with it. I should have a video out next week. I'm with you on the CZs though. They make some really great guns. One of my favorites was a 452 Scout that I SBR'ed and ran a can on with a little red dot. Soooo much fun to shoot. Thanks for watching Keith.
Wow someone who has multiple cz and no problems......mine is terrible....accuracy is ok....but it wont feed properly....now i use it as a single shot...its junk
I started to film my bedding job, but honestly... It is a huge pain to film and do it at the same time. When I put out my video on the replacement stock I got, I'll speak to it and show some photos.
Thanks, I'd like to get it smaller though. I know it can do it. I've gotten some consistent 1.5" groups with some Wolf ammo in the past. Unfortunately there were a lot of variables out at the range yesterday. Stock, cold weather... :) But it was a good time all the same.
This isn't a antique, in the sense they still make them. Ultimately I wanted a rifle chambered in 7.62x39 and at the time CZ was the only person making them, in a bolt action. I will be picking up a precision rifle before too long though.
Mine shoots ppu just fine....these guns are awful. ....full of problems....poor service from cz and no quality control from the factory....thses guns are $hit

That or getting it to work with a fixed SKS mag.
I've actually been looking at those Boyds stocks. I'll have to ask my machinist friend if it is worth doing (time wise).
