@@judgmentallemon2771 I think that's the point, though. Eda's curse has been a constant problem in her life since she got it. Lilith is making the point that if Eda is as superior to Lilith as she thinks she is, she wouldn't have the curse in the first place. Yeah, it's a bit of a self roast, but that's the point.

My personal favorite episode is Understanding Willow. They could have easily done an episode where Willow and Luz go into Amity’s mind and had us learn about her from her memories directly, but instead they developed Amity through her reactions to Willow’s memories and I love it so much.

    • @isaacstevenson2960
      @isaacstevenson2960 2 роки тому +15

I also really respect the fact that although Willow is exceptive of Amity’s apology and her genuine effort to explain what happened an fix things, she still doesn’t 100% forgive her yet. Sometimes even when you explained what really happened and make a genuine effort to fix things, your actions can sometimes never be 100% forgiven, but it’s always important to know that apologizing and making things right to prove that you’ve changed is always the best place to start. I’ve always personally taken that message to heart.

One of my favorite lines in TOH is when Amity calls Luz a bully in Lost in Language. Like you said about Luz in A Lying With and a Warden, Luz's weirdness can get out of control. Although Luz does start to tone that aspect of herself down, the Boiling Isles seem to fuel her spontaneity and, like her weirdness, she doesn't see how that affects people. I think that moment really helps Luz recognize others' feelings. In I Was a Teenage Abomination and Covention, Luz doesn't show too much consideration for how her actions affect Amity but in Wing it Like Witches, Luz does seem to come to the realization that she needs to consider others more a bit faster. At least, that's what it seemed like to me. Overall, I just really liked that line from Amity. When we have optimistic and spontaneous leads, we never really have them shown to us in much of a negative light but here, Luz straight up gets called a bully.

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?

My favorite episode this season is Understanding Willow this is the most focus on my favorite character so far and it was long overdue. And we also got our first glimpse of Mr and Mrs Blight 2 characters that we’ve been anticipating for for a long time now. And the set up for these guys in season 2 is REAL!!! I’m also glad that things are gonna get better for Willow and Amity. I’ve just been waiting for an episode like this for a long time. And my least favorite episode is Once Upon a Swap. It’s just a generic body swap episode with nothing more to it.

I know people love the “gay” but honestly if there was any relatable character... it’s admity for me. She’s been conformed all her life and in finding something new and a little strange to her. She starts to open up more and more as luz tugs at her heartstrings. And I like how she has to get over it little by little as It goes on. And it really shows even in later episodes. Showing who she really wants to be. Also the fear of getting rejected... is too relatable. And then of course.... even the gay crush panic. I’ve had that so many times it’s not even funny. And it isn’t always gay panic. It’s straight panic.. ( or bi panic) or panic in general as she’s just a little scared of her crush/ secret getting out.

While I AM a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, D&D and classical mythologies of all kinds; the only other show I can think of that has themes near similar to Owl House is that of ABC's Once Upon A Time. While the series DID feature sorcery and fairy tale figures, it also had them face off against real world issues like relationship issues, addictions (to magic mostly,) the importance of family and what true love REALLY means.
What's ironic is the fact that (for those unaware) the series mostly takes place within the Human World, specifically in a town in Maine called Storybrooke

Lost in Language was one of my favorites mainly because of how well it expanded on Amity's character, background, and relationships with the people around her. It made for a really good look at a character who's struggling with her home life without making it a melodramatic sob story, as a lot of shows tend to do with "the mean girl turned good". They never tried to rush or force her development in this episode which was incredibly important I believe. Everything's really grounded and the character interactions just flow naturally and seamlessly, aside from of course setting up one of my favorite animated relationships of all time. It's the episode that made me start to really root for these characters, and turned amity from just okay, to an absolute gem of a character that a lot of people can relate to.

If you think about it, season 1 as a whole follows sort of the same structure as *episode* 1.
Episode 1 begins with some generic 'good versus evil' scene between two comic book characters, ending with the protagonist shouting something incredibly bombastic. Childish themes. Then, we cut to Luz, smiling and beaming for a good while after. Reality check comes in hard. Foundation is laid out, then, the real episode starts in the Boiling Isles, a ham-fisted message about uniqueness is the center of attention, slightly more complicated than a generic 'good versus evil' plot, but still generic.
The climax of the episode ends with Luz shouting something incredibly bombastic, like the beginning.
Then, next episode, we cut to Luz smiling and beaming for a good while after. She still has her fantasies. The whole episode is dedicated to a reality check. After, the 3rd episode is a laying of foundations. The real show starts after the 3rd episode with an *incredibly* more complex theme.
The Owl House is like a fine wine. It gets better as it ages. It gets more complex the farther in you go. (With the exception of the body swap episode), generic tropes are eventually found to be broken in some ways, and things in season 1 get textualized far into season 2, not following expectations at all. The plot and character of the halfway point in Season 2 demonstrates that exact point. The creators like to wait episodes without giving trope-breaking explanations, and lets us expect a trope solution. And we are surprised and happy when those expectations are broken.
I realized that Gravity Falls followed a similar but quite different structure, getting more serious, more mysterious, and more intriguing as the show went on. Avatar: The Last Airbender was also quite dumb starting out, but everybody knows the large fanbase it has today. I think this is why these kinds of shows are great. They start out presented like dumb kids shows, and develop into masterpieces. It's like set-up is important, and easier to do, if more effort is put into later episodes as a whole.
The Episode Is Still Bad. but i like to think of it this way.

    2) ehh plot device! Also, he was panicking and probably didn't realise about those posters
    3) Luz was literally fueled by blind panic and if I'm not mistaken she had Owlbert to help her
    4) it's just a way to extend witches magic and give them a companion, you see she's much stronger at her magic with Owlbert, like creating a boiling rain barrier for the whole house with him

So far my favorite new cartoons rn is Amphibia and the Owl house, they're not perfect but it's still precious to me even though alot of teens my age dont usually like cartoons cause they see it more as childish and would be a bit judged by watching cartoons because of some adults seeing cartoons only as goofy and useless.

I can agree with you on Luz in the pilot taking it to far with the things like fireworks and snakes, but the message about weird being good is a really great message(I may or may not be one of those people who can be weird) but as long as it doesn't go to far like Luz's projects(like you said about balance). So, the thing with the first few episodes being kinda surface and then the story getting stronger as you move further along in the show is pretty common lately with animated series, particularly those with a young audience in mind.
They start out episodic, introducing you fairly gently to the characters, environment and world systems with a few stand alone adventures, ones that don't necessarily connect one to the next and watching them out of order doesn't generally affect the viewing. It gives you the chance to sort of wade into that world, rather than diving in head first. Throughout these more minor adventures, bits of crucial information get dropped here and there that serve as the first few pieces of the whole plot puzzle. When those pieces start coming together is when you start seeing the story becom more connected and serial (at this point viewing order really does matter) and each episode is more significant to the overall story arc.
Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Amphibia and Gravity Falls have all done the same thing (I mean, Steven discovers his powers when eating an ice cream sandwich... not a SUPER dynamic intro, but it helps you get to know the characters). Minor adventures that don't really get referenced until later on when the overarcing story is established, and the longer the lead characters stay in their setting, the more they become entangled in the story of the world they got dropped into.
So, it's sort of like if you go away on vacation to another country, you're more likely to just see the surface, touristy things and one day doesn't really connect to the next because you're trying to experience as much of the environment as you can, but if you decide to live there longterm, you not only become more familiar with the environment and the people around you, you become part of the story of that place more and more the longer you stay there.

The owl house fandom has massive racism/white favoritism issues. Since Luz was revealed to be a bi afro-latina with ADHD her mistreatment by the fandom has only increased. The fandom gawks over characters like Boscha who is an awful person, simply because she's white coded unlike Luz, Willow, and Gus.
Not only that but the abusive/toxic ships of Willow and Boscha which is just "barfing noises". The fandom just ships white characters with white characters, and a white bully with the person she torments.

Boscha is a bully through and through, she has completely destroyed Willow's self-esteem and doesn't care about her, she would rather be feared and hated than unpopular
Lumity works as rivals to lovers because they are only rivals for a couple of episodes, they start to learn from each other and understand each other and it works perfectly
Boscha and Willow just doesn't work that way and it's so toxic
I didn't even realise it as white favouritism but that's so true, they can't accept the Latina rival to lover so they make their own toxic white rival to lover 🤮

If there was any episode of this season that I disliked, it would have to be Once Upon A Swap. Not only has the silly "walk a mile in my shoes" trope been done to death but in the end, NO ONE but Luz seemed to have learned a lesson. Furthermore, the episode would've worked so much better if it went about like THIS!
Instead of the switches we got; Luz would be in King's body, Eda would be in Luz's and King would be in Eda's body. Through this roster, Luz would learn that being such a "cute little guy" isn't all it's cracked up to be. In Eda's body; King would (obviously) abuse his newfound powers, thus leading to him getting in trouble with Lilith. He'd also find a way to try and force people to buy things at the stand.
As for Eda, she'd end up meeting with Boscha and her fellow bullies; just like King did in the original story of the episode. Only instead of challenging them to a race, Eda would try to blast them with magic; only to discover that she can't channel her powers through a human. In the end, the three of them would ultimately learn just how difficult each of their lives were and instead of having ONE person clean Hooty...they'd ALL do it.
One more thing, instead of them keeping their original voices; anytime the trio would speak, they'd sound exactly like the bodies they're in. Just imagine hearing King's exclamations of "might" with Eda's or hearing Eda try to sound intimidating with Luz's

I'm not over my GF phase, okay?

Enchanting Grom Fright is my favourite, not just because of the gay
But because the fears just build so much for the characters, especially the Blight siblings
I can (and have) written essays analysing the fears and how they affect the siblings, where they stem from, and what it truly means etc

The Owl House is amazing at taking things that have been done a lot before, and doing them with such casual nuance that they feel fresh. Because the first bit of the series hasn’t had time to flesh these ideas out it just seems mediocre, but then it pops the fuck off and i love it.

I think once apona swaps is my least faveret I wouldn't say it's a bad ep believe I've seen so much worst but the best score I'll give it a 5/10 mostly because I'm a positive and move person.

I don’t think the pilot was ignoring the issue of balance. I think that’s actually what they were trying to say, but both sides were taking it to an extreme. I guess my biggest problem with the pilot is that there’s a lot of plot threads that just aren’t used later, and a lot of things can feel flat, like any pilot.

Was very disappointed with the body swap episode. Was totally expecting Luz to take the opportunity of being in a body with Magic to actually learn some spells for once.
