4:35 - Kirk: "Acoustic Guitar? Okay, here is my invisible WAH-WAH motherf***ers!"
- lol love it !
@Michael dude, it's a joke
I think he´s used wah for so long that the movement is automatic
Classic Kirk!, jajaja
Michael there was no solo in the song either, yet here there is one. 😉
This is an amazing example of how great this album could’ve been. I absolutely love this and James voice sounds amazing.
This is art...the song has been transformed and it carries 17 years of maturity and musical greatness
Well said.
You're absolutely right.
We’ve gone a long way from “KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLL!”
Could not agree more. Stripping down and rearranging this song and it's become something I can't stop listening to. The addition of the solo and Kirk on the 12 string with that orchestra gives me goosebumps. Avi is a fantastic component as well. My wife even said as she came by, "Damn, that's Metallica? It's absolutely gorgeous."
This is a much better version than the first, I think
St.Anger has its negative critics and is one of the most disliked MetallicA albums.. but without it, we wouldnt have this. This (imo) is one of the absolute best songs to come from the S&M projects. Love it!
If that entire album was like this I would buy it hands down.
Was genuinely surprised as to how good this sounded, so much better. Who’d have thought that a st Anger song would have made this set? Wonder if there’s any other songs on that album that could get some similar treatment? Although it would have to be done in the studio.....
This is just an adaptation of the acoustic version of the song which dates years back and you can find on UA-cam.
And St.Anger saved Metallica so F the haters.
@@Bluesruse I still dont like the album. I dont hate it, its just not for me. I like this version with the orchestra much much more. It grabs my attention much more.
Agreed. I never hated St. Anger. I acknowledge that it was just different. However, that solidifies Metallica's versatility. This rendition of All Within My Hands showcases their musical talent.
This man's voice ages like a fine wine. One of the few artists who sound as good live as in the studio.
I love his voice, but mind you - this is fixed in a studio afterwards. And yes, even the vocals.
@@nickred652 It doesn't sound fixed like in S&M, it sounds pretty natural to me
Seems like it hasn't age at all in 25 years
When I saw them live last year. I was surprised how well James vocals were. Definitely as good maybe even a little better than in studio
@@HerobrineGbriel It is. Pretty clear in parts. 0:59 being one example where the pitch correction is pretty obvious at the end of "suffocating".

a thousand years lol
he actually was adding solos to the live performances of the St.Anger songs back in 2004. Both "St.Anger" and "Dirty Window" with solos were really cool. The only time "Sweet Amber" was played he added a solo too. Maybe it's time for a St. Anger remaster with solos :D
@@MiguelGutierrez-vs9zu or more importantly, St. Anger with the snare drum on. That's the biggest problem with that album in my opinion, and I'm a guitar player lol.
Still can't believe how they took a passable song from a pretty subpar album and made this amazing, haunting track! Goosebumps!
Proof the song wasn't bad in the first place.
If they don't record St. Anger, then they're done as a band. It's actually a damn good album.
I liked the song on the album; but in this version I like it 1000 times more
This song works so well because they completely reimagined it to work alongside the additional music. If they did this for their other songs then it would feel like a new experience and not just a novelty. They finally achieved the potential of the whole S&M project with this song.
Oh if only they had YOUR guidance 🙄

@@deankissell3196 why so salty lol
Agreed, I do wish they did more songs that they hadn’t already done in the original s&m
they made this "reimagination" all the way back in 2007, it wasnt made this way for s&m2, but it does sound killer
I'd die to see the "KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL" part with an orchestra
黒Fawx Nah
I was waiting to see a comment like yours
I’m glad it didn’t have that part. That was cringe worthy on St. Anger. This version was WAY BETTER than St. Anger’s.
WAGNER entered the chat
i always wanted to hear it at the bridge school benifit councert that would be funny as hell with acoustics
If I had a billion dollars I’d have Metallica play their entire catalog backed up by an orchestra.
I would gladly attend that concert and not get tired of it.
Would you spend the whole billion to make that happen 😂😂😂

James' vocals at the very end as he sings "I'll die if I let go" give me the chills. Everything just comes together perfectly. This song was a really neat surprise.
same here, havent they added lyrics to this? have a feeling this was personal to james' addiction
It was cool till you said "neat"...that pissed me off a little.
@@elliotwatson3964 No, same lyrics from the original song.

Might have taken 17 years, but just like that, they’ve given us an undeniable reason to like St. Anger.
The unnamed feeling was awesome too
They played that one in a few acoustic sessions. Worth checking (School Bridge 2007).
No. Not it certainly Dosent do that.
Nope, St. Anger still sucks major shit and it's their worst album by far. A song or two that are not complete ass doesn't give anyone a reason to like St. Anger as a whole.
@@okagron Is it worse than Lulu? That’s technically a Metallica album.

Still a mystery why Kirk and Rob dont take singing lessons to get better at bg vocals. It's consistently the weakest part of every single one of their shows to the point of cringe
@@cal_chrisdera Kirk's guitar playing also needs a lot of work, but I'm sure he just doesn't have time for such unsignificant things.

@@Randomeris1 I agree but they might work with the mixing as well right?
When you consider James Hedfeild this performed after he had relapsed, and not long before returning to rehab, makes this an especially chilling performance.
That guitar at 4:23 was lit!!! My god how enchanting they made this song sound 💚
It was a shock to see Metallica include something from st anger as many of those songs were rough around the edges, makes sense that the song needed to be re-worked some to work with an orchestra, and turned out beautiful once performed!
If you listen to St Anger performed in the band's studio it sounds a lot better. I think the album sounds bad because of bad decisions in the recording/mastering stage, cause it sounds absolutely amazing when they play it live.
They originally did AWMH acoustically back in 2007, then resurrected it in 2018. This is a similar, although I think slightly tweaked version.
It's the name of their foundation, that's why they used it.
This is honestly so much better - I would love to hear the whole St. Anger record re-arranged in this format with an Orchestra.
Or at least, as many of the songs as they could find a way to pull off that way.

It takes big balls to play with an orchestra. Metallica are here because they’re the most brave of the thrash bands. Not afraid to try new sounds and styles.

.. 2 examples of different styles, lest the comment looks unconnected.
I absolutely love their rendition of lover man.
Now if Metallica re-recorded all of St Anger with a symphony like this, it'd be cherished, I think.
This is such a cool re-imagining of "All within my hands".
Yeah they did a good job. Personally it’s the first time I’ve ever enjoyed the song
@@ronsin9490 awesome! I'm one of those weirdos that likes the St. Anger album. I kind of loved the rawness of it. But I really love to hear songs re-imagined like this because it gives you a fresh perspective on it.
Really, I'm just happy that Metallica is still going and making/performing music.
James Eaton I agree. I still can’t really enjoy most of the album to this day but it’s so different that it warrants revisits from time to time. And I like the balls they have to jump out and plug St Anger tracks into things like this. They kind of listened to the masses and pushed the album into obscurity and then every once in a while they toss out a little nugget to remind even the oldest of old school Tallicats that the album did exist and that they still have belief in that period in their lives. So even if not enjoyable to me it still warrants some respect.
3:14 James and the singer had even their eyebrows acting synchronised. What an amazing performance!
I think might just be my favorite song in all of Metallica's entire discography. There's something in it that falls between the Savage and the Gentle, the precisely delicate and the viciously passionate. It's moving, deeply, between it's light melodies, heavy tunes, and everything else. I couldn't put this song into words entirely as there's more here than justice can be found in a simple UA-cam comment. I love it.
If i had one critique of this version: I wish they would switch from the acoustics to distorted electrics for the heavy parts to add to the dynamics and really just have it hit like a sledgehammer to the ribs.
Other than that, this version is pretty much perfect. The orchestra really gives it that extra layer
Nah I think the acoustic on the heavy part does sound anticlimactic, but distortion would ruin the 'vibe'of thr songs and wouldnt suit it.
Metalica is the best band of rock and metal in the world
They are because you said so bud
No doubt, numbers and facts don’t lie

This album literally saved my life and in particular this song through its various iterations. Listening to this just ran me through the last 17 years of my life. If it wasn't for this album my life would have gone down a short and irreversable path filled with hate, this album showed me another way of dealing with anger at a time when all I felt was hate and rage.
I just wanted to leave this little comment here as my way of saying thank you. Its amazing what a few chords and harmonies can do. Thanks Metallica
I had a similar experience 4 years ago... 311 saved me from myself.
Great album.
Same thing happened to me when I first heard Metallica in 1991. I was 14. So bitter, frustrated, angry, ready to destroy everything, including myself...till I realized someone else understood and felt my pain. Here I am, 43, married over 20 years, 6 kids, and in ministry. BUT, I'll never forget Metallica. My wife and I were at the 9/6 Symphony show. We said when we heard the first show we couldn't wait for them to do another and when they did, we were going. We never dreamed it would be 20 years later, but it was absolutely amazing experience - one of the best of our lives. I would imagine your experience and mine could be repeated almost endlessly with this band. They have been the friend of three generations of fans now. Remarkable. And its crazy to me that a lot of us really struggled with St. Anger when it came out. It was by far the MOST un-Metallica for a lot of us. But time has served to show how important this album really is in the history of the band. I now only have the highest regard for it. It's not the album we wanted, but its the album the band - and especially James - needed. And it has had a huge impact on a lot of people. I'm glad to see it getting more love these days, even by me. Glad you're well :)
All of this right here is exactly what the Metallica Family is all about...I love all of my brothers and sisters in the Met Fam.
The original snm seriously was my therapist, and this snm2 becides a couple messed up riffs on the call of katlu and outlaw torn it's an absolute masterpiece! It's something I listened to for 20 years and will still listen to for years to come. To have this new album and mix my playlist with, devil's dance, until it sleeps, of wolf and man, and many other tracks from the original that's like 25 tracks of pure fire!!
I've listened S&M2 like million times, and man Hetfield's voice was a killer that night!
The fact that they’ve taken my least favourite song off my least favourite Metallica album and turned it into this is nothing short of remarkable! What a great interpretation 🤟🏻
Same here, man. Metallica is one of my favourite bands and whenever anyone asked me if I thought Metallica had a bad song I’d reply “All Within My Hands”, no second thoughts. Now, I may not be so sure. I really liked the rewrite they did for the AWMH Acoustic Show and the added symphony just gives it that little extra something and now I love this version (still think the original is rubbish tho)

Greg Fidelman
According to their website they had the entire show remixed/mastered. I didn't see the show when it was in theatres but they said it sounds even better now.
@@sam8404 there was no time to mix it properly. Mixing band and orchestra really takes time, there's a lot of stuff to do with so many instruments (equalizing frequencies, separatings and adjusting tuning on some vocals, placing different sounds on different speakers.... I saw it on cinema, it sounded no clear at all to me. Now this mixing is killer, you can hear the bass, the acoustic guitars, string session from the orchestra, clarinets (that's a difficult part because it runs at the same frequencies than voices), all so clear. I hope that they put a Atmos mix no the Blu-Ray, that would be fantastic.
Got me in tears this. Outstanding. It’s like the original song is a bad cover. This version suits the lyrics and mood. Broke my heart in a beautiful way. Hetfield is a fantastic songwriting genius.
St. Anger saved my life. I won't go into too much detail, but about 9 months into my first deployment to Iraq, things were... getting pretty bad. I felt like my entire life-professionally, personally, spiritually-was crumbling around me. And then... my mom sent me a copy of St. Anger. This song is seriously important to the evolution of James Hetfield as we know him today . If St Anger was a turd , and a lot of people think of it as that . I don’t , but whatever . AWMH was a cherry bomb MetallicA accidentally swallowed . James had to get this song out . And I’m happy we have it .
So true. I was just commenting to someon else what a heartbreaker St. Anger was to me back then. I just didn't get it. And it made me so sad because I connected with literally every other album. Now, I get it. I really get where they were. It wasn't the album I wanted, it was just the album that had to happen. Its what James needed. And though I don't like it, I realize now that had Jason not left and had this album not been made, there would be no Metallica today. Now, I absolutely love the album. It is an important piece of their story, and this version is a beautiful moment of redemption and clarity.
@@Rickkelley365 I never thought of it like that TBH. But if Jason being the sacrificial lamb for Metallica to stay together and make Death Magnetic and Hardwired then I'm actually OK with that. Unforgiven 3 and Spit on the Bone are 2 of my favorite songs.
SoFLsteel777 Unforgiven 3 might just make my top 5. It’s my favorite of the trilogy. We actually flew out to see them in SF last year with the symphony and I just hoped they would put the symphony behind that song. It seemed made for it. That was an awesome moment.
Aside, the Metallica story can be told by the bass players.
1) If Ron McGovney hadn’t left, they may have never pursued Cliff. Cliff almost singlehandedly solidified and enhanced Metallica’s musical ability and left his indelible mark on metal history.
2) If Cliff hadn’t died, Lars would have been dumped. It’s well documented now that the band was trying to find a way to dump Lars once they finished the MoP tour.
3) Cliff’s death and Jason’s presence provided the creative and emotional fuel to launch Metallica out of the underground and into the mainstream. Commercially, it was gold. Personally, it was a train wreck for all of them, including Jason, the only one who wasn’t completely awestruck with himself. He saw the band for what it was. Amazing, but utterly toxic. He saw what they couldn’t see. He left. They had to deal with it.
4) Had Jason not left, no St. Anger. Many (including me) would say or did say, it’s the album that should have never been made. But it’s the post-Jason leaving album. It’s the NO BASS PLAYER album. How weird. It’s the no solo album. It’s the stop it with the snare album. But looking back, it’s the stripped down album, and that’s exactly where and who they were. You listen to these songs live and wow. They’re ridiculously good. Had they not made this album Metallica would be no more. Jason made it happen. That album is the remnants of the mess he left. That’s what he was hearing while the rest of us were hearing everything else.
5) Rob Trujillo is the consummate steady guy. Maturity, skill beyond skill, energy, entertainment, no frills, and sincere friendship. He really outclasses them all as a musician. He doesn’t rock the boat. He’s not as musically forceful as Cliff, but incredibly talented. They married up when they got Rob. They paid Rob $1M just to sign. That was the beginning of healing.
In my opinion, they should have invited Jason to play with them one song on S&M2. Maybe they did. Who knows. I think that would have been a touching moment of redemption for them all. It was a missed opportunity to mend fences with their darker (bass) side.
Lyrically and emotionally, Metallica is the story of James Hetfield.
Historically, it is the story of 2 bass players, then a bass player but no bass, then no bass player at all, then a fill in, then finally, a third, bass player.
That’s how I see it. Believe it or not, I have other interests hahah but no other band is more interesting or has been personally impactful in my life the last 30 years. It will be a sad day when the ride is over. Looking forward to a drive in concert Saturday and maybe some new music in 2021 if we’re lucky :)
@@Rickkelley365 Damn now that is what I call a break down. Thank you for taking the time to share all of that. So I just cant put together a top 5 or 10 or whatever list because the songs are each great in their own right. The Unforgiven trilogy; each song great but different and awesome in their own regard. How do you compare the sounds of a Four Horsemen with King Nothing. Lightening with I disappear. And so on.
Unforgiven 3 is one of if not my favs because it is such a great combination of things. Obviously its a trilogy song which IDK of any other bands that have done that. Piano intro which was different than the first 2. Guitar hits, lyrically powerful and IMHO Hammets best solo.
As far as Jason with S&M2 that wouldve been awesome, but from what I understand, he has rejoined the band and played bass with Robert too. Maybe they just wanted it to be their own thing I guess.
As far as Lars, he seemed all about the brand and making money. From the hair styles, which i still dont understand how people can hate on a band for a hair do but I digress, to the music videos, going mainstream seemed to be all him and James was probably not the one to wanna fight him on it. Kirk is like the most "IDGAF just give me a guitar" I've ever seen. But it took care of each of them and their families so I dont fault them for it.
Rob really impressed me on the making of All Nightmare Long with the flamenco playing. He is so multi talented in how he plays, Im glad they paid that man!
Now there is word they want to do their best album in 30 years next. This, I am looking forward to and hopefully James stays healthy to be able to complete it.
@@soflsteel777 appreciate all that! as for favorites I hear you. My favorites are more or less the ones that strike a deep personal chord with me, that I never tire of hearing because they always resonate. At 43, there are songs that still hit me about as hard as they did when I first heard them, you know? Those are the faves for me. Stay well my friend :)
Sounds so much better with the symphony. Great choice to play during this event.
I`m sincerely amazed and impressed of how this song just became one of the best in Metallica's history.
“I’ll die if I let go.” That rings true in my life. Livid’ that life if you know what I mean...
Just one word : " master piece!"
Just listened to the whole album, and it's an absolute killer. James' vocals are the best they've ever been, and the overall performance by the band and the orchestra is astonishing. I am not sure I will be able go back to other music for a while.
My God.. (heavenly father. I honestly want to thank you for this band. Please continue to bless them. Amen)
Really feel for James, he looks sad and upset at the beginning and the end of the song. I can feel how hard this was for him and really hope he's in a better place now, he's always in my thoughts. Even with so many demons he still managed to smash this performance out of the park
in my opinion they redeemed this song for me. the acoustic one has been stuck with me for a whole week now
Favorite St. Anger song honestly like this version more then the original.
how does his voice keep getting better? amazing
Best piece of Life Advise ever given:
"You wanna hear it with vocals??...
....Go sing it!"
Wait... it’s all within my hands?
Always has been.
... yeah.
Not the St anger song
just make sure you wash them regularly :)
You should've known this
Nice meme reference =))
Seeing them like this make me feel old. Time passes so fast. Don't waste away friends, if opportunity presents itself, jump on it. It might be your only chance to make something of yourself
A Masterpiece from Master Artists... Not a single note out of tune... As I listen to this song over and over, I am transcending :)
