    I have had a few people mention they feel like they are taking advantage of the situation with this info being out there for free. I want to let you all know that I am doing this to help spread the word of my knowledge on the sport to bring more interest into the seminars that my wife and I have been hosting around the world....
    The best thing you could do is to spread the word about this UA-cam Channel and to get this info out there for people to use. There isn't enough solid resources for information with experience to back it up and there is a huge void with first hand experience as a top level archer. You can help out the community at large and encourage it to grow.
    Support for this channel is generated from views, subscribers and the books/seminars that we have available on my website www.jakekaminski.com
    There is also Amazon Affiliate links to tools and gear listed in the description so be sure to check that stuff out if you are in need of the tools or equipment I use.
    A book containing the information from the tuning series is in the works and I am excited to get that out there as another resource for you, the archery community to enjoy.

      as a thank you for putting this information out for the community :)
      I really wish I had the money and time to be able to get more personalized help from you, but I just graduated college so UA-cam is the primary option for me :P

      @@JakeKaminskiArchery I can't speak to any other Patreon channels, but I'm British, ex-army, and (was once) a pretty good competitive service pistol shooter. Lately I'm enjoying (a) Bloke On The Range, (b) Forgotten Weapons and (c) InRange, while I mourn the fact that recreational firearms ownership is pretty much a thing of the past in the UK :-( .
      Are they tacky channels? Well, not in my view.
      Now, lookie here - I'm a disenfranchised wannabe pistol shooter, I discovered archery in 2017, and am doing my autodidact/backyard Agincourt best to get to a point where I know how to group my arrows as consistently as once I could group snap-shot 9m Parabellum rounds fired from a Browning Hi-Power. Pistol is hard. But pistols are machines. Bows and arrows are much more organic complex and inter-dependent - every time you think have mastered one facet, you discover another you need to understand if you wanna get better . . . . it is endlessly fascinating. I imagine the disciplines of archery as kinda Zen-like; akin to yoga.
      But I between online meetings in the working day, I can step outta my house here in lockdown England, put a dozen arrows down my backyard range and step back in ready for the next Zoom session, and reflecting on how next to progress with the bow.
      And so far, Mister Kaminski, you are far and away THE MOST INFORMATIVE coach I have found here on UA-cam. This video is a case in point - completely cleared up all my arrow rest questions - take a gold star from me 👍
      I am hoping (nay, expecting!) that you will have something on here that will do the same for a dozen (so far, only a dozen) things, starting with 'never mind how does a plunger work: how in the name the Nazarene carpenter do I set one up to help my arrows land consistently where I want them to?"
      Put it out there on Patreon - people will pay for it, you will have earned the payment, and the sport will be enriched.

    I'm using the MG Outdoor Profi Spring Rest from Germany for Barebow for years now. Great adjustability and very durable. It's wire finger can also move down when shot. Simple but effective design. Helps to tighten the crawl because the arrow don't bounces that much when released.

      Me too, for hunting.the only one disadvantage when hunt and walk, you can not control the Arrow on the rest.

  • @peternguyen1911
    @peternguyen1911 4 роки тому +2

    For Barebow, I definitely agree with you that a thick wire is better for string-walking, since crawling down the string for shorter distances puts a lot more stress on the wire at shot release. The AAE Freeflyte and Freeflyte Elitesare great for Barebow (seen in the Lancaster Classics). It seems any rest with a thick wire and some sort of magnetic fold-away or drop-down option are favored by the majority. Some of the best in the US are using the Zniper drop-down rest to get the best clearance and reduce bouncing off of the wire. This reduces the amount of crawl needed at each distance. In Europe, you can spot the best in the business using the Spigarelli ZT (Zero Tolerance) rest, a wrap-around, fold-away magnetic arrow rest. I'm not sure any static rests are good for string-walking since clearance will be an issue

  • @msrvfx
    @msrvfx Рік тому

    Jake, thank you so much for all that you do. The Shibuya arrow rests clearly looks like an exceptional arrow rest. My question would be about utilizing arrows larger diameter than 2312. Isn’t the up/down and in/out adjustment great enough to allow somewhat larger carbon arrows?
    If not, would the ideal modification being bending the wire and/or slightly enlarging the upper portion of the plunger hole so it could be dropped lower? Thank you for your information.

  • @alexjamieson3822
    @alexjamieson3822 6 місяців тому

    On the adjustable rests such as the Spigarelli ZT, what effect does the strength of the magnet have? Why would you adjust it, and what is the optimal setting? Does it affect arrow flight? Is it based on the arrow weight? Do lighter arrows require a weaker setting and heavy ones require stronger? What is the sweet spot? I’ve seen many videos showing how to change it but none seem to explain why. Thanks for the great videos!

    I recall seeing one of the Korean archers using it one time (it could have been Chang Hye Jin) and explanations I've heard so far are that it's a hangover from an old type of Hoyt bow that used it as an option, or alternatively, someone else I spoke to reckoned it was a better option when shooting longer arrows as it placed the plunger closer to the node point at full draw. Ok, I'm a compound archer... question: Why not a fixed blade rest style like on our compund bows, or a fall away? :-) What Am I Missing? rules?

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 роки тому +1

      We need to support the arrow left to right due to the arrow bending around our fingers when we let go. Hence the plunger.

      @@JakeKaminskiArchery ok, but is It legal to use a blade rest? Have you ever tried to shoot With one to see what happens?

    More seriously, as an ab-so-loot-ly noob archer, 100% self-taught, at the tail-end of my 2nd (1st in lockdown) summer of backyard Agincourt, I'm kinda wishing I'd found some of these here videos back in March, and I'm still thinking 'there's some missing'.
    On that latter point - me and my 68inch/28lb learner bow, well, we "discovered" plunger buttons a few weeks ago, and we still ain't found a UA-cam video (or, for that matter, much in the way of written web content) that really explains them from the ground up, So - we experimented, as you do, and in the course of that experimentation [successful, up to a point] I discovered the notion of 'centershot' and that led to an understanding of arrow rests and adjustment thereof (confirmed in this vid, I am delighted to say).
    Then, yesterday, watching another of your more recent videos on that topic, I learned that (a) aligning the arrow away from line-of-sight is an old wive's tale, and that (b) center shot 'dead ahead' is best for parallel shafts (but not for barrelled) . . . . and that led on to the OMG!! discovery that, on the wooden riser of my cheapo noob lo-poundage bow, the profile of my cheapo wannabe Shiboya arrow rest is sufficiently high, given that the riser is cut so veryvery close to center, that if I adjust the plunger such that center shot is dead ahead, the shaft can never make contact with the plunger sufficient for it to do the job of damping the flexing of the moving shaft as it responds to the forward motion of the released bowstring.
    So: what's my point? I guess it's that there's a number of simple mechanical fundamentals in the above, that are actually important from an early point in a novice's progress, that are pretty much un-discoverable (oooh, I have tried . . . ) in any of the many archery channels on here, and recently I'm stumbling on them in bits and in pieces as I continue to be increasingly engrossed by your channel.
    I feel like you might want to think about maybe using the long dark, cold, gloomy winter nights [Cold? Gloomy? In Florida? Yeah, I know - but my li'l bro was at Zephyr Hills DZ in the '80s when the oranges froze on the trees and so did the snowbirds in their AirStream trailers, so we know these things can happen, right?] to craft a short series of videos (maybe it just needs a 'mix' of stuff you've already uploaded?) to clarify in a single, easy-to-swallow dose, for ab-so-loot beginners, the purpose, and the inter-dependence of these components of the basic, essential - seemingly endlessly fascinating - mechanics of the deceptively simple-looking thing we call "the bow".
    As ever - loving your work.

    My thin wire breaks after shooting 1000 VAP arrows. The rest appears to be set up properly. Is there a way to avoid the wire breaking?

      What style archery are you shooting? Barebow or Olympic style?
      Seems to me like there is a problem somewhere with arrow contact. If your bow is for sure tuned and you don’t consistently have the same vane getting torn off (from vane contact on the plunger/rest etc) then I would suggest you are accidentally hooking it on your finger sling or when you put it into your case etc. I only suggest that because I have hooked my rest on a back number on my quiver and ripped off an arrow rest before.

      Olympic. The wire just broke while shooting. It did not seem to be a clearance issue. I do not have a spare wire, so I went back to a plastic rest . Thanks

      Do you have to develop consistent technique such as release and bow hand placement before you can fine tune a bow.?
