    I have had a few people mention they feel like they are taking advantage of the situation with this info being out there for free. I want to let you all know that I am doing this to help spread the word of my knowledge on the sport to bring more interest into the seminars that my wife and I have been hosting around the world....
    The best thing you could do is to spread the word about this UA-cam Channel and to get this info out there for people to use. There isn't enough solid resources for information with experience to back it up and there is a huge void with first hand experience as a top level archer. You can help out the community at large and encourage it to grow.
    Support for this channel is generated from views, subscribers and the books/seminars that we have available on my website www.jakekaminski.com
    There is also Amazon Affiliate links to tools and gear listed in the description so be sure to check that stuff out if you are in need of the tools or equipment I use.
    A book containing the information from the tuning series is in the works and I am excited to get that out there as another resource for you, the archery community to enjoy.

      Take it from me too: we wouldn't be making content freely available if we didn't want to share it. Knowledge needs to be shared. Don't feel bad learning from people who want to teach it. You can pay it forward by sharing it with other people who want to learn.

I'm glad to suck all the info in to me to make it work for me. All this small details give me a hint I did not receive yet from our couchs. Thanks again!

      Thanks again for doing this, there is as you say, a huge void in real experience out there!
      In the UK, most of our coaches shoot barebow or come from a barebow background and even the county level (lvl2) coaches that I've come across so far don't seem to properly understand Olympic Recurve. Hearing from someone that's been there, done it, and lived it, makes a big difference!

    It occurred to me that we're making the same set of videos. Except, I'm working backwards through the cycle for some reason. Just finished watching this one while doing SPTs. Excellently explained. Felt like I was hearing it from Coach Lee again.

      That’s funny. I’m glad other people are spreading the gospel of Coach Lee. You have the ability to explain it from a fresh set of eyes which will help people a lot especially after they go snow-blind from the information dump that is my videos haha.

      It makes some sense to start at the end. I never fully understood the set position until I started to really study the release. By working backwards you can see what each position is progressing towards.

    Hey, Jake, I just wanted to come back and say these two vids helped me a lot. I changed from life long right handed shooting to left handed shooting a short while ago. I was fortunate to find these vids, as they are helping me fine tune the move from right to left. First, the finger length talk and hook and so on section--great. I see my left hand as my stupid hand even though I finger guitar with it, so your vid helped with the hook. But the great thing was showing the twist at the waist. When I drew with my right hand this was all natural, as I throw baseball right handed, but when I switched I knew I had to do it, but I didn't have the right image or words to make it so. Now it's more natural. Sweet. Thanks.

    Dear Jake, Thank you so much for this valuable information that you are paying forward to the archery community! This is an incredibly good information resource. An amateur archer could accelerate his learning curve tremendously with all of this solid info! Compound, Recurve and Barebow archers can all benefit from this wealth of info! So much of our sport is integrated and congruent to one thing: enjoying the flight of the arrow and the satisfaction of becoming one with the bow! Thank you for what your doing!

Thanks for explaining everything clearly and concisely.

    Okay, I'm confused on one point. First time at the archery range today and my arrow kept coming off the rest as I went into full draw. I was careful not to pinch the nock. You said to start at the fingertip and "roll in" your fingers into position. I haven't tried this yet but it seems like that would cause your string to twist in a direction that would cause your arrow to come off the rest? I am in no way doubting your teachings, just trying to wrap my brain around it. And thank you very much for your tutorials, they are my go to for this new challenge.

    Many thank yous for the explanation "index: back tension. Lower and middle: bicep." I did some changed to my grip and while I'm still in the conscious stage where I'm having to think through the form change, I can notice I'm cleaner and grouping tightening in about a ring.

    For the hooking part it seam like i can't lock my wrist by stretching my thumb. No matter how far I bring my thumb back I can still move my wrist back as much as 45° backwards so is their an other way to lock my wrist?

    • @BlasterKotakatik
      @BlasterKotakatik 4 роки тому

      I found out for me at least that in order for me to lock the wrist in the bent out position I simply just flex my tendon of the back of the hand and make sure that the knuckle of my three fingers are not protruding and that they're flat with back of the hand. I also keep that flexing throughout the shot until release & follow through to make sure that I keep my hook during the shot.
      Edit: Also regarding the bending of the thumb back, you don't need to bend the thumb back that much to bend the wrist outward. Just make sure that you keep the thumb low and level with the middle finger as you stretch the thumb back that way you don't overly stretch the thumb back and overdoing it.

  • @cristianrojas4969

  • @lachezarkrastev7123
    @lachezarkrastev7123 3 роки тому

    You are the pro, but I do not think you should flex and stick your fingers next to the handle, because you can cause some unnecessary muscle tension and pressure on the left side of the grip, which could deflect the shot.

    More brilliant explanations, I have addressed my incorrect grip, was pushing against the pivot point. So now I have discovered the correct pressure point I have found stability and lost about 1/2" draw length which suits me very well. 32" draw on 70" limbs squeezes my fingers together and the index finger gets pushed off the string so losing draw length is good.

    Hey Jake. I absolutely love your videos so much!!! I follow you and learn and teach the NTS system. I’m doing what you say about everything. However, I can’t or let me rephrase that, I’m finding it difficult to anchor under my chin bc I’m basically, head and shoulders. I have no neck to speak off. I’m built short and squat and probably crushed a few vertabrae during my football career. (Figuratively speaking)! But I’m doing what’s good for me with my hand size and my thick neck and no neckness. But I’m not giving up on working on making my form the best I can do. Thanks Jake.

    Now I'm wondering about the draw hand's thumb & pinky placement. Is touching them to each other/especially having the thumb bent actually beneficial? Or is it just a neat way to keep them out of the way?
    Realistically, if you don't add any additional stress/forced to the wrist deliberately, the hand-arm connection should sort itself out automatically without having to prevent unwanted bending of the wrist with thumb positioning. So keeping the thumb straight(ish) and relaxed along the underside of the jaw and the pinky just dangling should work as well, or am I missing something?

    Hi Jake - first of all thank you so much for all of these excellence videos, I've learned a ton from watching. I had a question on grip that also relates to the loading part of the cycle. In the loading video you mention the bow rotating as you move from rotating for alingment to loading the bow. I'm curious how to get my grip set properly during set up when the grip changes substantially when the bow rotates later in the shot. I'm struggling a bit getting a consistent grip after the bow rotates and I'm not sure if theres something I'm missing with my initial grip set or if the grip should not be moving as the bow rotates (and if that's the case is there a trick to avoiding that). Thank you so much!

    About two years ago I smashed the end of my middle of my bowfinger. My entire nail lifted from the nail bed like the hood of a car. The surgeon drill holes in my nail and stitched it back on. A steel pin was inserted into the end of that finger and protruded about 1/8" from the end. Six weeks later the pin was pulled out with a pair of rusty pliers. Unbelievable!!!. Anyway....I'm hoping there will be no problems.

    Just wondering for the placement of the string on finger, I learned similarly to your description here: no further than first knuckle, but I just came across this video from Korean Archery Academy that it should be behind the first knuckle (ua-cam.com/video/P4Afm7-d5lg/v-deo.html). Are they like two different systems of hook and grip? Or is it some advance in archery form in the past 2 years?

    How did you build up your grip? I have big hands and struggle with my grip being too thin so it's hard to get a consistent position with thumb and index squeeze. I saw that yours had some build up around the top and wondering I can go about doing that?

  • @szymj
    @szymj 4 роки тому +1

    Hey Jake, if the third finger is not really used then why not just use the index and middle finger only? Seems like it would be more consistent with just one finger above and below the arrow and not a third finger sliding around.

      im also wondering about that one i have seen tabs for only two fingers, and i have read the Olympic rules and its seems that you can use two split finger or three below just not thumb. i have watched some clips and seen one korian girsl use two finger . i also find it easier to shoot with only two fingers as my third finger seems to be to short

      The ring finger is mostly there to help control the pitch of your draw hand if the ring finger were to slip off then you'll impart more twist on the string. And don't try to make your wrist vertical it'll only cause excess tension in the forearm.

    Jake regarding the grip pressure point. We set it low but where is it in the low position specifically? In total archery it's said that it is located on the low right half side of the grip but I can only manage to set the pressure low on left half side of the grip. What do you think?

      @@dejanmiklavcic6663 Yes, holding on the finger tips and rolling in is helping me. Still a little numb on the middle finger but it's only been a few months and it seems to be getting better (slowly). I hurt my middle finger badly by shooting 2 fingers under as I did in my youth.

    Thanks for all this. One question though, after you have set your string on your fingers how far round do you curl your fingers? It looks like yours come round some way or is that just how it looks through a camera.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  4 роки тому

      I talk about how much to curl when I am showing how to hook upwards specifically when you can or cannot see my finger nails when at full draw. I can find you a time stamp if you need one.

    Rookie archer from over the pond in the UK. Enjoyable and powerful information - thank you! Question regarding thumb/pinkie distance and wrist alignment (~13min into vid) - I’m hyper mobile and seem to be able to flex wrist outward whilst maintaining distance between digits. Any thoughts?

    I've worked as an engineer, contractor, and as a Physical Therapist's Asst, and have to compliment you on your content and delivery. I've committed to correcting >30 years of bad form and tuning habits. My repetitive motion injuries have been exacerbated by overuse during work related tasks. Bicep tendonitis, Lateral Epicondylitis, Carpal Tunnel, MCP tendonitis, and now...distal nerve damage!! I'm a hot mess and have no choice but to learn to do it correctly. Thank you for sharing! If anyone is interested, search neural glides as a hand therapy exercise.

    Hi Jake
    Glad I came across this video because I've been having trouble keeping my form still before shooting. Changed my hook by pushing my fingers inwards rather than outwards (which is the natural thing to do) when placing my fingers and drawing the string (5.50)

    Thank you for your form series! As a Barebow shooter, your stance video helped me get more inside the bow with better alignment and draw weight support along my skeletal structure (I'm not feeling the draw weight as much as before). This video helped me have a stronger bow arm by having a grip with better support from bone and further reducing the feeling of the draw weight at full draw. I've been hitting more tens and Xs than ever before on a 40cm face, 18m, and hit my PB of 276 on a WA 300 round. Thanks again!

    Hello Jake please make this one again for a left handed archer. I know most archers are right handed but you have me watching your videos trying to work out if I need to switch left for right, inside for outside or not. I really want to understand this video without any doubt. Please can you do this kind of video for a left hander. I appreciate you yourself will not be in the best form but please try to come at it from the prospective of a left hander and I am sure we lefties will appreciate it and learn better. Please do KSL for a leftie. Thanks Mark

    Total neophyte here. Choice was either golf or archery. I had known that each was a technical skill set that would take time and patience. I chose archery. Just now getting that its form first, then hitting the target. Thanks Jake for a superb job explaining all the specifics in body position. Great on you for sharing your knowledge with us sir!!

    I must say your channel has been a total godsend for me because I haven't been able to get coaching with ranges closed. I am new to archery but have been "training" for something for most of my life. You give the detail/theory behind form I needed and was lacking in other coaching resources that I, unfortunately, paid for - keep it up. You packed a lot into 28 minutes that will take some time to implement but already it has changed my shot. So far everything I've watched in your form series seems applicable to three under barebow. I will be looking for your seminars on the East coast whenever this covid calamity comes to an end and can't wait to see you at the Lancaster Classic shooting barebow! Off to blank bale while the boys are still napping.
