True story:
Last night when CS:GO servers we’re down and I was very bored I started cs 1.6 to play some HNS. I was alone on the server (I think the time was like 4:30 in the morning) and suddenly someone joins the server. He was veeeery good at it and wanted to teach me to play better. I was trying to do some Long jumps and he told me that my FPS was too low (the server had a command that shows every player FPS , I was shocked to see that on my gaming pc which can handle gta5 on ultra). Then he tried to make my game run better by saying that I should lower the resolution to 400x600 as he has. We tried some things but never worked, and then I asked him if he plays cs go hns and he said that his pc is very slow and he also has windows XP.. I was kinda shocked to hear that some people still use windows xp and can’t handle some basic games. He continued to show me his skills and he was very good at it and after a while he invited me to play on one of his servers or something like that but I think that the server blocked the server IP and it never showed up.. He left after he said that maybe thinking that I would join his Server.. Man I know maybe it doesn’t sounds like that much of a thing, but seeing that guy being so nice and so good at the game and even playing it on lowest options possible made me very sad.. So yes, some people still play cs 1.6!

Warcher Well I still play almost everyday on the same community servers since 1.6 (back at 2009) till now (since they moved on to csgo), it's actually the best thing you can get from cs, we all know each other and it's truly magic when you enter the server, and you're kindly welcomed by all your friends.
Some of them are my real life friends and thats amazing when back at the day gamming was so more "special" than now relating to that "loyalty", there was no competitve so you basically had to choose a community to stay on and play on :)
It still happens, I have a regular 1.6 server I play on.
I still do. Casual servers in CSGO are more than fine. There are TONS of people who want to play old school CS style which is no ranks, just having fun spending time together, yet skilled. I played more on one CS casual server than MMs overall. People think that casual servers are for noobs etc. the truth is that those servers have rules like in cs 1.6 and they have good players if you find that kind of server. Low players join skilled server and leave after one game, never come back. But we have like 20 people playing regularly and it's real CS instead of shitty MM system.

You can play unlimited mixes as you like, you don't need MM for that, there are lots of people willing to play this way. And it doesn't really matter 5v5, 6v6, 7v7, 8v8 if you play for fun. More players just make it more dynamic.
I've had a lot of fun playing tons of great multiplayer games over the years...but nothing will ever beat this era of CS

I believe it's kind of a popular stereotype that if you are from the Balkan you play a lot of CS 1.6 and GTA San Andreas because not only is it true, most people who are a bit older than me (They finished high school and are out of the country to work) used to play these games back in 2004 or so and that could be how the stereotype formed.

Yes cs 1.6 is not a dead game but its not played in the us that much. I live in Serbia and bassicaly this is the first game that you play. I dont know why but we like to play older versions of games like gta san andreas instead of gta 5 and older nees for speed games...
It has to do with the availability of computers powerful enough to play modern games. Computers are expensive, and for a lot of people in the world, their computers can only run games like 1.6 Even if you are fortunate enough to afford a great computer, if you're in a region where a lot of people don't have them, you'll still have very few people to play with. This is why the vast majority of 1.6 servers that I can access here are from Central and South America, not the US or Canada.

i remember after finishing school on a cold winter day we would go with my middle school friends to a internet cafe to play for hours and we would do this almost everyday and i miss those old days when life was simple.

The first time i played 1.5 was 20 years ago. I think i was 11-13 years old when i started playin 1.6, i saw the guys in the club they were team looking in mirc for 5vs5. And after that i knew that i dont want to play /classic/massacre/ servers anymore, but just 5vs5. So i was serious 1.6 player for 11 years straight i was almost playin only 5vs5 and deathmatch servers to warm up and sometimes classic/massacre of course but not that often. I was in few teams, but still even tho i was giving my all i couldnt reach the big scenes of tournaments...

A Bug same
People think that improving the resolution makes the game look better. But that's not a general rule. At 640x480 or so you would not notice the polygons on player models, walls that are painted to have 3D depth (e.g. Bricks) would look more convincing and less atomically flat. Textures would look less blurry, because you couldn't resolve them as well at the low resolution. Cranking up the resolution on an ancient game reveals all these flaws. It also doesn't help that he's playing custom maps with awful lighting.

Me is a Windows 10 professional or 7 and its 240 fps in game
i get 200-250fps (max) and average 80fps in a server with ~20 people on a Windows XP pc.
Idk my fps but it runs smooth on my potato :)
In south america, or at least in Argentina where I live, cs 1.6 still have dozens not to tell hundreds of servers, and hundreds of players too, a good part of those servers are usually empty but the other half are full
I wonder how many games have that crazy amount of servers and players active after 20 years!! and how many modern games (if any) will ever have that as well

Cs 1.6 : 278k players
