    Thank you!!! I’m a black Latina and I learned this technique long time ago. In my native tropical island we take a lot of pride in our hair and washing it everyday was and is a “no,no”. I’m glad that women (especially Caucasian) are doing this now without judging. You don’t know how many times I have to explain, why I don’t wash my hair everyday and the look that I get from some ladies.😂

      I don't wash my hair everyday too. Which where I live is a standard. Growing up i was very lazy when it came to my hair, so I only washed it once a week. Then as I started to care more about my hair, I started splurging on professional shampoos and noticed my hair wouldn't get oily throughout the school week and on weekends it was dry shampoo and updos until I washed it on Sunday.
      But here the norm is to wash your hair everyday and I get a lot of dirty looks when I say I only wash mine once a week. I just don't need to wash it more often. I think that comes because a lot of women here are not taught properly how to take care of their hair and use drugstore shampoos.

    • @LPempty

      There is genuinely nothing wrong with washing your hair daily depending on your hair type. If your hair gets oily just wash it. What he’s talking about is an old myth that no derm would say is right atp

    • @lailanitukuafu
      @lailanitukuafu 5 місяців тому +6

      @@LPempty If you ever end up reading this reply, I'm just curious, what are your sources? And also are you, yourself, a dermatologist? And lastly, have you actually tried out his advice? I'm more inclined to believe this guy because he works professionally in hair care and has worked with hundreds, thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people in his salon, who have a variety of hair types and lifestyles. It's reasonable to assume he knows what works for people and what doesn't.
      And the logic of going a few days between washes is sound. The best thing about it is that you don't have to spend nearly as much time and resources on your hair. I, personally, don't have time to wash and style my hair every single day. If you want to do that, yeah there's nothing stopping you. But it's not exactly the best option. Shampoo is literally built to strip your scalp of oils so if you wash very often, your scalp will get used to being regularly dried out like that and it will compensate by getting oily faster to match that. The result is that you spend more time and money creating a daily problem that you then use lots of product to solve. There's no point to it. Your hair will be much less stable, get dry really fast, and get greasy really fast. It's harder to get it to consistently look and feel good.
      The modern world is great and all, but there's a reason why for thousands of years, people (even high-class people) didn't wash their hair every day. Your hair stays nice and clean for longer and you don't have to use as much product or time to keep it that way. I'd be interested to see you prove me wrong.

      Yes. Me too. It’s opening my eyes, I washed my hair almost every day since I was about 15 years. I’m into my 6th decade now and I’m still doing it. I have to say my hair has always been in “good condition” until now.
      Now my ends are dry and frizzy. I can’t bear how my head feels on the second day without washing, so I don’t make it three days without washing. 😢
      I’m going to try very hard to follow the advice given here.
      I hate being sweaty, I don’t go to the gym. I don’t like dry shampoo, maybe I’m not using it properly.
      I have an Aquis hair towel, have been using them since I was given one as a Christmas present in 1997. I won’t use a Terry towel now.
      So much to learn, so many bad habits to change. 😮

    My hair was always straight, thick and healthy. It was often quite long and I color it regularly. I remember washing it every night. I always enjoyed the feeling of freshly washed hair. It didn't seem to ever interfere with the health of my hair in any way, at least not according to my stylist, several of them in fact. I few years ago I started going through menopause and my hair was suddenly curly/wavy. I have gradually settled into washing twice a week (maybe 3 times on occasion). It is more out of laziness and now that I am retired I don't need to style as much more than anything else. I would still wash my hair every night if it were as easy to take care of as when it was straight but now I don't mind going a few days in between.

      Totally can relate!
      I don't see other way as washing the hair more often, or at least I haven't found a way, but in that case also use a very mild shampoo and wash once (BP advocates for washing twice, but I think it makes sense only only when you're extending the time between the washes)
      If the hair gets sweaty ane dirty, and I mean the dirt not just from the naturally oily scalp but generally, for me it was also many many floorwork routines, basically polishing the floor with sweaty hair😅.
      So yeah, I haven't found a way to extend the washes beyond every other day.
      Now I don't practice to that degree anymore, and it's waaaaaay different to not be dripping sweat on a daily basis.
      Way, way, different. Hair, skin, make up (I can actually wear make up now), the whole routine/care is different.
      Most of the tips out there simply don't work if one works out daily, many hours a day, starting from the morning and continuing at various intervals throughout the whole day. I guess at some point, you just learn to just live in in your own sweat and dirt 😅.

    Seriously, this is a godsend! I love that you did this. Only thing, I have a very short chin length bob, and I she gets pretty sweat soaked even on my just-lifting days. Any ideas on what I could do about that?

    • @katechiconi
      @katechiconi Рік тому

      Same here. I have very fine hair in a chin length bob, and I live in the tropics where the humidity is naturally very high, so I sweat into my hair every day, come what may. I'm a dry shampoo addict, and I say that proudly. I also don't wash it for 3-4 days at a time. Day 1, wash really well, blow dry. Day 2, spritz the underside with a little dry shampoo, brush through. Day 3, same, maybe do the outside layers if the oil is starting to show through. Day 4 wash it after exercise.

    Thanx a lot for all the explanations! I am following your videos and you helped !
    I've a question please. My hair is a bit dry (wavy to curly hair).. usually I shampoo it every 5 to six days but if I workout I sweat a lot (even with weights only) and my routes get freezy.. could I wash the sweat with water only or with conditioner ? If I can't use shampoo, what can I do ?
    Thank you so much !!

    I kinda intuited this by myself, especially this: *not* working out on wash day is a waste, and so is working out *the day after* wash day.
    Now I mostly do power yoga, which tends to make me sweat a lot, so my hair usually looks like crap the day after rest day. I think I'll try the headband tip, see how well it works (also maybe try to plan my workouts better and have a not-sweat-so-much workout day after rest day 😆)

    Hi Chris! Thank you SO much, again, for your life-changing tips!
    Which shampoo & conditioner set would you recommend for me if I have fine hair and I only blow dry/heat style my hair occasionally (once a month) and I've never dyed it: Redken Volume Injection or Pulp Riot?

    Chris, what about sleeping!?!? In addition to working out or hats, sleeping is the most destructive to my style and texture. I use a silk pillowcase, but what other tips do you have for keeping a style for a few days, and/or (and I've mentioned this elsewhere) how to best refresh a style.

    VIDEO REQUEST/IDEA: What suggestions do you have for us pro athletes? I work on a horse farm and between my riding helmet and the sweaty work of riding well, plus a normal day walking an average of 15k steps; my hair and scalp get pretty sticky (fine hair per your video run down). I would imagine ski instructors (also helmets!), gymnasts, competitive martial artists, and others might have the same question as I do-as in what can we do for our hair to be as healthy as possible?

    • @KendraClendineng
      @KendraClendineng Рік тому +5

      I imagine you’d have to wash your hair everyday if your wearing a helmet for a long time and also if you have a job where you’re getting dirty.
      As much as you can masking sure your helmets clean and shampoo and condition every day. If you want to style your hair everyday I’d focus on mainly heat less styles that you can set in your hair the night before. Just make sure your hair isn’t too wet when you put your hair into the heatless styler or it usually won’t dry by morning. More damp than wet works best.
