What My Invisalign Journey Taught Me

  • My Invisalign journey hasn't been easy. I have 4 TADs (temporary anchorage devices) screwed into my jaw and had to get two of them removed and replaced. There have been a lot of issues along the way and people have asked me if all the frustration and pain has been worth it. I'm only halfway through my treatment, but I'm noticing some changes in my bite and I'm excited to see what the end result will be!

    I got clean at 33 after using since I was 18. It wasn't easy & definitely uncomfortable, because change is uncomfortable. We get stuck in the comfort of whatever crap we're holding onto because at least we know what to expect. However, it brings me tears of joy now looking at how amazing my life is now!

    Rickson Gracie, in his book Breathe, talked a lot about the idea of getting comfortable being uncomfortable. well that piece of advice has been great for my Jujitsu progress because of the need to learn new physical skills and discover I appreciate my own limitations, it has been the most beneficial for my process with our little deceptively simple clear tray friends. brute forcing through difficulties years ago in college is probably what led to the teeth grinding that caused migraines and necessitated pursuing Invisalign in the first place. After three months now, when the trays first change, I’m not sure if I will be able to make it to the next one, and yet when the night to change to a new one comes, it is so comfortable that I forget I’m even wearing it. Thank you for the great motivational video.

      That sounds so frustrating! I’d say it’s worth getting a consultation to see what is recommended- there’s a good chance you won’t need TADs but it all depends on what your treatment plan is!

      I think it’s safe to say it’s *extremely* rare that you’d need this!! I’ve read a lot of posts in the Invisalign group in Reddit plus I’ve watched many videos in YT, and I had never heard of this until today, so please don’t be scared! Most consultations are free anyway, so I would go for it! Be sure to see an orthodontist and not a dentist, as orthodontist have much more experience and knowledge when it comes to moving teeth. Good luck!

    I still have tiny titanium screws and plates on the jaw bone when I had a BSSO (bilateral sagittal split osteotomy) due an underdeveloped lower jaw to extend it by 10mm, 4 wisdom teeth removed, and a deviated septum adjusted, at 17, while I had braces. The journey of healing is a process, and certainly not a straight line…
    You have a nice smile, hopefully your teeth can stay set that way without external future medical intervention. 🙂

    I know this is a little late and not necessarily what you're talking about in this video, however, where the ends of your pins stick out, if you get OrthoDots (CVS has them in the dental care section) and stick them to the ends, it should really help! They are liquid activated and don't move unless eating tough foods. I hope you find some relief for your mouth 🥰 I use OrthoDots on my broken teeth that cut my cheeks and lips, it's just wax and so simple!

    Remember, this was her journey, for most invisalign does not require all of that, just changing the liners, I don't want this to give the wrong idea of invisalign, and scare someone, for me is the easiest thing, I change them every 10 days, no pain, and great results.

    Wonderful & inspiring message and so very true!!! 🙌🏻 ✨
    BUT, I think your video is making everyone think Invisalign requires these screws in the jaw! 😰 I admire your going through with it. I’m pretty certain this is a very rare requirement as I’ve done a ton of research into Invisalign, and have it myself, and I had never heard of this until today. Rubber bands? Yes! Jaws surgery? Yes! Tooth extraction? Yes! But not this! :(
    Everyone, go get a free consultation from an orthodontist (NOT a dentist), put your fears to rest, and get started! 🎉

    • @BalancingLaura
      @BalancingLaura  Рік тому +1

      Thanks so much! My intention definitely wasn't to have people think that this is what every Invisalign experience is like. Ultimately, I didn't know that the TADs and the rubber bands were possible with Invisalign and I wished I had found a video where someone talked about their experience! So I figured I'd share mine! 😅 I tried to emphasize that everyone has a different treatment plan and it is 100% worth getting a consultation from an orthodontist to learn more. I could have done a better job speaking to that so I really appreciate your comment! 💜
