I am 50 and have Invisalign. My first few trays were changed every two weeks, after that I now change every week. It has been a lot easier than I thought really. I agree with you that the biggest headache is having to clean your teeth all the time while at work or eating out. I have also found that if I talk a lot, they dry out and cause me to lisp - very frustrating and embarrassing! I am getting close to the end and I am glad I did it - even at my age - no regrets!
@@RuthCrilly Yes, my Dentist changed me to weekly after my first check-up. Like you, my retainers are loose after 4-5 days. It is so nice getting a fresh/clean retainer every week! Also, seeing and feeling the changes on a weekly basis is very gratifying and makes it worth sticking with the program. Good luck and thank you for your wonderful videos! ♥️
I had Invisalign in 2011 for ten months. After finished the treatment- as time passed (years later) I was seeing my bottom teeth getting crowded. I did wear the retainer for a while and then stopped entirely. My point is: after the program is completed ensure that you use the last tray as advised by your orthodontist. I had Invisalign again in 2022. Now I wear the retainers at night (only). (Found out after my second round of Invisalign- how to keep them clean instead of scrubbing them...use distilled white vinegar in a glass and put retainers in the solution. Ask your orthodontist his/her recommendation of DWV and water ration.) It will be worth it!!! IMHO. P.S. Round two- I went from two weeks to one week as I was able to wear them for 22 hours a day due to my ability to be at home...eat, brush teeth, put them back in ASAP.
Be cautious about moving your teeth too quickly. You run the risk of thinning and receding gums, and shortened roots. Proper occlusion is important for the health of your teeth, supporting structures, and gingiva. Teeth in proper alignment are easier to clean, and have less wear resulting in fewer problems. Most adults do loose weight during treatment. I also think the face changes shape when the teeth are moved, that’s just my opinion. FYI I’m a dental hygienist with over 30 years experience.
I’m a few months in from using Incognito - lingual braces that fit behind the teeth. So far it’s going well - not much pain really but easier than Invisalign when eating and drinking. I prefer braces being fixed as very tempting not to wear them for social occasions etc. Good luck with your journey 😊
I don’t have Invisalign but still found this really interesting as love your perspective on pretty much everything and as someone going through purgatory with my teeth I can totally relate to how self conscious you feel when things aren’t right in your mouth. I also work from home and have to go in the office twice a month and I dread those days , and speaking to people face to face and feel I’d probably not go out much at all if it wasn’t for the fact I have to. So looking at it as a positive for my mental health. Great informative video as always . Lots of love xx
I totally agree with you about the attachments being annoying when my trays are out. I actually like the way my mouth feels with my trays in! I have to wear my trays for 2 weeks at a time and I’m on my 6th tray. My treatment period is scheduled to be a year and a half. Hopefully I won’t need any refinements. I’ve definitely lost weight since I’ve started my treatment. I only eat 2x/day and wearing my trays has cut out any and all snacking that I may have done in the past!
I finished my Invisalign in November, I had 29 aligners and finished that in 8 months. No added time and I'm pleased I did it. I started every two weeks and then moved to every week. I tried so hard to make sure I covered all the commitments properly. It was so much easier than I thought it would be.
Glad your not going to loose the gap Ruth 👍😊 I don't have invisalign but I could do with a gum shield to stop clenching my teeth when I'm asleep .I wake up with jaw ache xx
I haven’t got Invisalign but I have to wear a similar thing at night so I don’t grind all my teeth off 😅 I would never talk again if I had to wear it all day! Also those pajamas are nicer than some of my going out clothes. I need to up my pajama game
I’m a couple of weeks into my journey and I can relate with everything you said! I also have the bumps over nearly every tooth so even with them out I look hideous 😂 The constant annoyance is SO accurate. I’ve got 20 aligners which should finish around June/July although at my initial appointment he said it would take 9-12 months so I’m also expecting lots of refinement aligners once these are done 🫠
Hi Ruth, have you heard of the Complete Mouth System? British Dentist on UA-cam who now lives in US, says it is possible to re-mineralise your teeth to repair cavities and strengthen the enamel. Worth a watch even if only to use at a later date after your treatment. Supposed to be safe for childrens' teeth to stop them having fillings. In comments section in one of her videos she lists the British equivalent products to use.
We use Ultradex from Boots. Listerine Cool Mint and Colgate Fluorigard to finish. I still use electric toothbrush to massage gums. Only been using for couple of months but see an improvement.
Are you saying braces are worse "think Invisalign is bad? Braces are worse" or are you saying braces are better "don't like Invisalign, try braces"? Sorry I just read your comment and I realised it could go either way😅 I've been thinking of getting either in my teeth
I only had braces on my top row, but every time they were tightened it hurt so bad I couldn't eat anything solid afterwards. I expect invisalign to make my teeth a bit sore, but not as painful as that.
I’d be interested to know what they say. I was moving mine every 7 days, all was well and then at week 8 my canine went grey and it killed my tooth! I had to stop everything 😭 dentist only refunded me half my money and now I may have to have a root canal on the dead tooth! I wouldn’t speed it up, I wish my guy had taken it all slower!
That’s sad! Thanks for sharing. I think I will push to keep my rotation at 10 days or more. I’m 41 and apparently the older you are the slower you must go. I’m on week 3 of the first tray since 2 brackets popped off and had to get them re-done.
Totally relate Ruth. I luv tea and coffee so that is a pain. Had a tooth out Friday to create some space 😢 Not loving it right now. Sure it will be worth it in the long run.
I am 28 and had orthodontia when I was younger. I now have some gum recessions as a result of a specific tooth being moved around with the braces. I think gum recession is the main reason they don’t want you to fly through the trays. Have a look into it - especially as an ex smoker! x
I'm on my 3rd day of invisalign. Taking them in/out is a pain. Also find the attachments are cutting up my cheek while I chew. Otherwise, very tolerable pain. Looking forward to seeing results.
Your beautiful with or without your gap❤ Im thinkkng of having it done! I just had 2 crowns snd they feel very weird! Im 53 and at 34yrs i went to see dentist about braces, he told me its no guarantee that my teeth could move or fall out! That put me off 😮 . Im thinking of straightening my teeth 😂 as they have moved with age .
I was watching random videos on Invisalign after finding a UA-camr who was talking about mascara, but had a video about Invisalign, that's how i found your thumbnail. I don't know if it's because i have a gap myself, but I saw yours and how it just complimented your face and clicked because i was like NOOOOO don't remove it! I see you're a model, that makes sense. I saw the gap was thinking it added a beautiful uniqueness, model-esque. I'm thinking of Invisalign or braces myself, i want to close the smaller gaps in my bottom teeth but I've been wondering if there was a way to not affect the top middle one. Glad you made this video, i feel like their marketing influenced videos from years ago made this seems like the best thing ever with no problems. I'm feeling better informed.
I had mine a few months ago . First 5, 6 trays were pk .but ther e after teeth in either side of both jaws seem went inside and font teeth became clustered upon one another my face became so disfigured and
Very helpful Ruth. I'm about to start. I have a couple of chips in my top front teeth. Very small but I'd like them sorted, but my bottom teeth make more contact than they should in those spots, so I need those re-aligning before I can get the top ones fixed. Sidenote: I'm sure my bottom teeth have moved slightly with age (I'm 54). They used to be really straight. I shall have to go and google whether that's an actual thing!
Yes it is a thing! The dentist said that they never stop moving and then as you get older they all just start crossing and doing mad stuff. So THAT'S great. : ) I'll be your personal Invisalign mentor.
I’m on week 3 of my journey. I’m using spark not Invisalign and I change every 7 days. I’m with you on the dry mouth. Probably because I’m drinking way less tea as can’t be arsed to faff cleaning just for a cuppa.
Ha! Exactly. Ditto with when I've had work events in the evening - you don't realise quite how many drinks you're offered until you're refusing every single one of them.. .
I am wearing sth like this as I sleep because I clench my jaws so hard, and there are times I feel them unbearable! Also I drool all over the pillowcase😅, so for sure more hydration is needed! Have the kids noticed you do not chatter/ smile as much?
I had invisilign done for about two years ago. Had to use the traces for 6 months. The result was great. However, I was NOT informed that I had to wear night trays for the rest of my life (and I also have the metal string behind my teeth to keep them in place) Have you been informed about this?
I am wearing my first week now and I have noticed my tongue is getting sores on it from rubbing against the edges of the aligner. I totally appreciated when you were saying you don't smile as much and I have noticed the same. Even though they are clear I feel very aware something is in my mouth and my cheeks are sore too, I feel very odd about smiling with plastic spread out on my teeth. Also not feeling so smiley with my sore mouth! Thank you for sharing your thoughtful and honest experiences.
I’m on my first set and the edge was really sharp so I sanded down the offending corner with 1000 grit sand paper and now it’s great. I threw the sandpaper in my box so I can do that to each new set. The 1000 grit is gentile enough to remove very little material and leave it smooth.
Wishing you the best with your journey! Do you think the slower schedule is due to fragile teeth? Nature took away my gap 😢.
