firstly, dude... you are a generational talent. insane....
so many of us dont even play base but are addicted to your content.
Secondly, PLEEEEEEEEEASE do "Snow" by red hot chilli peppers. The song is NOTORIOUSLY hard to play on guitar at the right tempo and for as long as John Frusciante does. Seeing it on bass with your added pizzaz would be incredible!
EDIT: I liked my own comment, everyone else that agrees, may I please ask that you so the same. As in like _my_ comment. Not your own.
This young man is one of if not the most creative bassists I have ever seen.
My mom loved this song. She died about three days ago now, Sunday 11/26. Hearing this means a lot to me right now, thank you CB. 🙏🏼💜
Man I feel for you. I lost my mom very young. We keep moving in our own lives. That is what they want.
@@geraldfriend256 sorry for your loss brother, it ain't easy. Like you said we just gotta push on. Things like this video make it easier for a fella
I just lost my dad earlier this month. He loved music and passed that on to me. Blessings to your family.
I'm really sorry for your loss, and I hope everything is going alright for you. ♥
It's been more than a decade since my Dad passed away. The first year was the hardest, It will never be easy still even after years, but I promise you things will be better, man. I'm sure your mother loved you as you love her
It's not the bass that makes it sound heavenly, it's the bassist ❤
It's both. How fortunate we are!
@@stevecraig3004 Agreed. He's not doing that on a $150 no name bass
@@johnpeace971 Of cours he can. Maybe the playability will be a bit worse but other than that there's almost no difference
@@uroboric There's very much a difference. 10% of the tone is in the fingers.
For the algorithm. ✊
?
Oof
Yes.

Nobody else is elevating bass like Charles is. This dude is honestly an insanely inspiring innovator. 🤟👏🙏
It really is a genre now.

Hear hear.
I concur
I just forwarded this to a musician friend of mine using the words awe-inspiring
I truly believe you are one of the greatest bassists in our generation… your technical proficiency is like no other
Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪
I would say musicians, ever...
@@helderjuca7094 definitely not musicans because you cant really translate skill to over instruments, but very very good
@coleavis2150 Eh, I played piano first, then guitar, then bass, then violin, now I'm learning a flute 🤷 A D3 is a D3 no matter what you're playing. If you know how scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions work it does not take long to learn an instrument/song. The worst part is adjusting to the different techniques and hand placements. Regardless of what someone can play- a lot can be done in a studio using equipment and I'm fairly certain if *I* can compose "not too bad" music, he can absolutely do better.
Absolutely
Zombie Roy Clarke Would like to have a few wise words with you on the subject. @@coleavis2150
Love the harmonics❤
Thank you Charles!
Yes they are really something!
Charles…I’m an old dude who still says Jaco is the greatest bassist of all time…but I know that’s just subjective nostalgia talking (imagine being a 16 yo bassist and hearing Jaco’s first solo album when it first came out!)…the fact is, you have taken ahold of everything that he pointed to and have carved out a niche occupied by only yourself! You truly stand alone…at the top…my hat’s off to ya mate!
The way you capture the song's emotional depth while adding your own flair with a fretless is truly a testament to your skill and musical sensitivity. Bravo!"
My Dad would have loved this. I used to send a lot of your videos to him but he passed away recently. He loved Clapton. Keep up the great work thanks Charles
Dude I hope Clapton sees this. I feel like even he would be impressed. That was sublime.
Charles, you continue to amaze me with all of your genres and styles. It is glad to see a fellow bass player do such great things. I am confident that you work incredibly hard to provide all of the videos you do for us. Keep up the great work my friend! You have so much talent, truly.
Thank you!!
He is the bassist’s bassist
@@Beast_Hub no, he is the world's bassist
Sick
@@Beast_Hubtrue. I’m a bassist, and he’s my bassist
You are a towering interpreter of popular music on bass. This one is just beautiful and thoughtfully arranged. Sounds outstanding on the 6-string bass. You are redefining what can be done on the instrument. I hope you keep creating for many years. Your work is transformative.
That last slide made me gasp for air as if you had plucked my heart strings, my goodness 😅
It's like you are playing a harp. And, the sound of your fretless bass is nothing short of fantastic as is your talent Mr. Berthoud. What an awesome pair y'all make! 😊
Sometimes when people have this level of skill, they lack the passion and emotion that makes music truly beautiful. This has both.
I absolutely love this rendition of Tears in Heaven. Absolutely beautiful, well done.
I appreciate your restraint, that is not a song that would benefit from a crazy slap/tap solo. Also, that fretless has such beautiful harmonics, that slight metallic intonation really fits the song
I just wanted to say that this is beautiful, this song in general makes me think of my loved ones I have lost along the way. Your rendition of this song made me feel things I haven't felt in a long time. Thank you Charles! 🥲
Breathtaking version. Your musicianship and taste is top notch.
Always such a treat when you upload
No one, NO ONE better at these arrangements on the bass right now. Chops with taste
Beautiful song. Always made me happy and emotional since the first time I've heard it. Enjoy a great cover from you all the time man, exquisite playing.
A song about a toddler falling from a window to his death, and his dad saying "Would you even know who I am if we met again in heaven? Do I even belong in heaven?"........... made you happy.............?
Sounds beautiful!
Amazing as always!
great arrangement and performance as always! This is top level sound!
Beautiful arrangement, Charles. Thanks for sharing your creativity and skill with the rest of us!
great arrangement and feel, as always! thanks for sharing !
Smooth! Beautifully played. Love the sheer range of material you cover. Always a pleasure to see you truly at one with your bass, it's mesmerising to see how you make it look so easy.
What a beautiful rendition of that awesome Clapton Classic. Well done Charles!🥹👍😎🇺🇸
This is a standalone. The notes and the harmony are there but the overall atmosphere is deeper and less sugary than the lyrics version. Thanks for this arrangement, a real masterwork
wow that was beautiful !! thank you Charles
!
Dude - you are absolutely phenomenal! Thank you for sharing.
Just amazing! Thank you!
I really love the clean sound giving an impression almost like its been sung. beautiful.
Another great interpretation of a classic. Just amazing. The sound in this clip is perfect.
Tearful tappings and heavenly harmonics! Such a great interpretation of a wonderful song!
Gorgeous bass arrangement... astounding!
that’s not fretless, the whole thing’s a fret! but in all reality, I love this, it’s beautiful!
This is pedantry to the point of absurdity...... Besides which... It's CALLED a fretless bass - so, it's completely irrelevant anyway....!!!!
Simply beautiful Charles. You got me all teared up!
Genius! Amazing performance and arrangement, as usual.
Beautiful composition, Charles! ❤ it had some really beautiful and diverse sounds that only you seem to be able to bring out through your expertise on base.🎉
That was beautiful and brilliant !
Thank you
You were the main inspiration for me to get into music, I can happily say that I have been playing bass for just under 2 years, and my improvement has been fueled by your tips and inspiration. And I know for a fact that you haven't only inspired me, but an entire generation if musicians ❤
You nailed it and the way it was done is amazing
It sounds beautiful. Thank you, Charles.
Literally made me cry. Amazing.
Beautiful job Charles!
Phenomenal! Especially the sliding and artificial harmonics. They add a resonance to the piece that makes it sound magical. Well done!
I think this is my favorite video of yours so far. Just amazing!
Absolutely freakin beautiful, man!! Masterfully arranged!
You never cease to amaze with your incredible, natural talent.
Thank you for this video. I absolutely fell in love with the fretless bass. And of course, fantastic performance!
it does sound majestic. So beautiful!!!
Thank you.
Amazing, Charles!! Congratulations!!
I love this song and that bass is absolutely majestic. Beautifully played, I definitely can't wait for the next video. Stay blessed 🙏 much love 💞 and keep them fingers walking 🤘🔥💯
Your intonation is so spot on, on the fretless. Great work.
That was beautiful Charles, brought a tear to my eye.
This song is so beautiful, what a great rendition! I love that bass 👍
This is some of your finest work. Incredible.
Thank you. What a beautiful way to start my day!♥️
Thank you for making the bass an instrument in its own right instead of just background for guitars and vocals. To me, bass is to guitar as cello is to violin, and your playing definitely elevates the instrument's capabilities and recognition! I sincerely thank you!!!
Man I love when you do these really traditionally beautiful songs. You are incredible.
Absolutely stunning!
So gifted and dedicated. This is so effing hard to do. Inspiring and jawdropping yet tastefull. Hats off dude. Again.
That's lovely! Great work.
Nice, love this song. Sounds incredible when you play it 🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful! Thank you!
Невероятное мастерство и музыкальность!!! Браво!
Awesome! Thanks for your hard work! Have a Wonderful Week! ❤ Much Love!
Beautiful. Thank you!
I remember the vet playing this song on the stereo when he had to put my cat down. I think it expressed so well what everybody in the room was feeling that moment. And even though it is hard to listen to the song nowadays, hearing your version was kind of like a veil being lifted from my eyes. The fretless bass one can work out ways around each note with such smoothness and fluent movements. Sorry, I am sounding like Yoda, but really enjoyed it, I did.
Amazing job on this Charles
Wonderful, beautiful sounds, cosmic 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow!! Man, that's some amazing playing!
Incredibly beautiful song , extremely talented musician !!! THANKS !!!👍👍👍
oh man thank you, this has been one of my favorite songs since i was a kid. i havent even heard you play it yet but i know it's going to blow my mind like all your other performaces
This is so beautiful!
Wow, really incredible. Absolutely has my in goosebumps, and maybe a little bit of watery eyes. This isn't a song I've ever wanted to cover as a vocalist/musician due to the meaning, but I think this may be the best version I ever heard. Really amazing as always.
Your videos are all so good , but this is just sublime
amazing arrangement and playing
Masterful, stunning, heartfelt.. just wow
Thank you for another amazing cover
What a beautiful song
Wow man. Such a beautiful song. And this is gorgeous.
Just gorgeous, Charles. Really great work.
It's scary that your still getting better. Just awesome
Beautiful sound! ❤
Dude. This nearly brought a tear to my eye. The sound going into my ears is just heavenly.
Magnificent. Please do lots more on the fretless bass. I love the sound.
wow, and sick af. Loved every second, nice work bro.
Majestic. Love the technique.
I severed the top half of my left thumb(fret hand) in a job site accident about ten years ago. My index, middle fingers and what was left of my thumb was seized up for a year and a half before I regained any mobility in them, and as a result I had serious issues playing my bass for longer than 15 or so minutes without it being extremely painful.
Watching your videos, and remembering how much fun it is to jam, has inspired me to start playing again.
Thanks for being awesome.
Charles... very proud of this. There is a deep meaning behind this song and you did it justice!
That was INCREDIBLE thank you for those 2 minutes
Gorgeous harmonies. 💙
This is beautiful ❤
Charles, every time you post a video you prove that the bass doesn't have to be lost in the background...it can be out front and the focal point of a composition. Keep up the great work!.
After seeing you the first time, I cut my bass into 4 pieces, balled up the strings and distributed everything across 300 miles in the Gulf of Mexico. Kidding. That's what I wanted to do. But now I practice more and I'm happy to say I'm now 1 billionth as good as you are. Absolutely amazing! Just like all your videos!!
Beautiful, thank you.
Oh my gosh, Charles. Just amazing.
Wow, you have the ability of classical guitarists ... on bass. Amazing.
