Hot off the heels of our fiery experience with Khezu, high-rank Basarios absolutely melts with the hitzone-independent Sticky Ammo. This successful attempt combines many lessons learned from previous runs, and came out almost perfectly, with Spare Shot absolutely blessing us with shot after shot!
Speedrunning Basarios also turned out to be almost as fun as optimizing Aknosom with Hammer, because all three of his spawns (Area 8 is common, 7 is uncommon, 3 is very rare) provide an equally good chance at a fast time. For any future speedrun attempt possible in under 3 minutes, we will now always forgo drinking the Mega Demondrug, as it takes away a full 5 seconds that could otherwise be used for attacking.
With a bit of testing, we also found out that Palamutes not only do more damage than Palicos (since they sync up their attacks with yours moreso than the cats), but also attack more frequently leading to more status activations. This is true even if you use the Felvine to speed up your Palico. Against Basarios, who is 3-star weak to sleep, we often got 2 sleep activations on him within a minute and a half of engaging, which is crazy for extra support. For casual hunting and pilfering melding materials, attack and gathering palicos still have their place, respectively.
Not much more can be optimized out of this duo run, aside from fixing a couple mistakes I made like taking the Might Seed twice, not crafting fast enough on a couple reloads, and not using a Wyvern shot early enough in the pitfall trap. You could maybe shave off another five seconds this way, but it would have to coincide with Spare Shot activating just as often as it did here and get a Dango Weakener activation as we likely did.
For now, I do believe we have another World Record. Let's go!

I highly recommend stickies for this guy and Gravios, if they add him too. That -20% enrage modifier is annoying for stickies, but he still just melts either way. Thanks!

It’s so strange hopping into Rise hunts after Iceborne. Average hunt times without going into tryhard mode used to be ~10 minutes in the New World. In Rise? Five minutes is easy for anything that isn’t a top-tier monster, and 7 minutes or less for the big guys like Goss Harag and Rakna-Kadaki.

Best of luck! Gathering palicos go a long way. Basarios is super weak to sleep, so GS tail-cut wakeups may help. I honestly don’t know if his tail breaks or cuts...I never attack there. 😅

At least the other ammos are balanced pretty well now. No x4 close-range mods anymore for insane spread builds. 🤪
