Using this right now for my check-ride next week and for working with students in the future. Thanks for taking the time on FOI's. The examples are easy to understand and relate to.
I came up with an acronym for an effective assessment, you need it to have COOL FACTS, and to make it work I added "legible" to make the message (verbal or written) clear to the student without ambiguity or interference.
Todd, again great content. I just have one question/concern about the Characteristics of a good written assessment, DRCOVU at 17 minutes, being the objective. Isn’t the Aviation Instructor Handbook talking more about Objectivity rather than an objective. Meaning how difficult an essay is to grade objectively where as multiple choice is easy to grade objectively? I do agree with how you follow up that the comprehensiveness measures toward the overall objective. However I am interpreting the objectivity as something other than the objective. Let me know your thoughts.
Actually, you are correct with what you are saying, but in the video, I completely left out the explanation of Objectivity! I seemed to have just skipped right over it. You are correct with what you are saying, so just go with that. Thanks for the message letting me know this, I will work on getting that corrected.
It's so good and helpful, I have one question, I noticed that you look at your iPad during the lesson, is it available at the check ride or I have to memorize everything? Thank you
Hi Todd, as I have mentioned in other posts, your videos are so valuable. Thank you. I have a question regarding the use of some mnemomics. In the PTS there are 6 items listed under Critique which form the acronym you mentioned ISSISW. Since each of these items is listed in the PTS is there really a reason to have to memorize this mnemonic? I assume a CFI candidate is allowed to look at the PTS during the oral? This is a really important question for me as I prepare for my CFI check ride. Thanks!
There is no requirement to memorize a mnemonic. However, it is up to the examiner to determine whether or not you have the instructional knowledge of the material. If you rely too heavily upon notes, of which specific list in the PTS could be considered notes, then the examiner may determine that you do not have the instructional knowledge for that task. Due to the extreme subjectivity of this exam, my recommendation would be to have a working knowledge of the material and not memorize acronyms.

That is awesome! Please message me if you have any questions about your training.
I remember my FOI Written Exam, while on the subject of questions to avoid, used trick questions to ask the question.
Edit: 36:42 EXACTLY!!!!
G.O.A.T
Instead of ISSISW you could make it into a "word" like SWIISS
Excellent work that you do Todd, this is so helpful in my preparations for my CFI lesson plans.

You do not have to memorize everything. You can use any resource that you want, just don't read directly from it. Hope this helps.

The other sections on the FOIS are on Patreon?
dman04 yes they are.
Ever figure out what that font is you like to use? lol
Helvetica Neue by Adobe. However, there are new fonts released every year and there are some really cool stuff for 2023 already.
