    A NOTE FROM LIZ
    Hi everyone, I love the interest and comments on this post. Please note this video was intended as a guide for the process of becoming an architect. I cannot answer questions about immigration, visas, university recommendations, or your individual circumstances for career options, or application to study or become an architect in Australia. These sorts of questions are outside my knowledge or area of expertise. This channel is about tips for studying or practising in architecture. I hope this information helped give you some answers. Thanks for watching!!

    Hi Liz,
    I just graduated from year 12 and I am planning to get into Architecture through Uni SA or Adelaide Uni. I have a few questions:
    - What exactly is a master's degree, and what would that include in the context of architecture?
    - Is doing a masters required or just optional? Would I be able to get registered as an architect without a masters?
    - From my own research and your video, a timeline of becoming an architect is: 1. uni bachelors degree (3 years) , 2. uni masters (2 years), 3. becoming registered through the board, 4. then get a job in the field. Is that correct?
    - How long does the registration process take?
    - Is work experience/placements required, and is it separate to the timeline above (e.g., you would do a placement while you are studying for your bachelors degree. In that case, when do you usually do work experience/placements? )

    I think the process is quite different here in philippines but the period of time of achieving the title is somehow the same. Here we have 5 years in college bachelor of science in arch, 2 years apprenticeship then board exam. 7 in total.

    Would getting a diploma first help with the bachelors path than going head on with it? Like would it be helpful for more hands on people and experience?

      Only if you need to get your grades up for entry. Architecture is a lot of study already. Personally, I would avoid adding even more!!

      Hi. Great question. I believe you would have to determine how much of your degree is recognised in Australia - probably through the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA). Then you would probably need to complete any extra study required equivalent to Australian requirements. I hope this helps.

  • @anthonybutto1925
    @anthonybutto1925 2 роки тому

    I don't wanna actually become a registered architect. However it was a lifetime since I grew up in the building industry. I wanna train to be a structural engineer- Would you first train to be a building designer for entry requirements in structural engineering; for this is now what I'm aiming for to aim to train to be a building designer so later down the track to have a career in structural engineering; for obviously you need to have previous experience on a software in today's world.

    • @lizatarchimash
      @lizatarchimash  2 роки тому

      Hi Anthony. Building design, architecture and structural engineering are three very different careers and knowledge bases. You would only work or practice in one discipline - or study and swap to another. You can study building design and then transfer into architecture (I'm not sure if you get any credit, you would have to check with the university). If you want to become a structural engineer then I would go straight into engineering - you are unlikely to get any credit or relevant knowledge from studying architecture first. In my opinion, dual architecture/ engineering degrees do not provide you with an advantage -you will eventually become an architect or an engineer. Not both. I hope this helps.

      @@lizatarchimash Also, while I was at it I just remembered that I was told by a teacher structural engineer that some students take around six years to get it right before graduation and only few get it right the first time, it can be tricky if people don't know from a to be. I think that a bit of study and research and maybe if bumping into someone who is maybe better still a teacher in this profession may be an advantage also, it's probably like with everything else.

      Normally each subject has an indicative amount of hours per week - a typical subject could be 10-12 hours, and a full-time load would be 4 subjects (40-48 hours per week). However, this is the time required to complete the work well and pass. If you are aiming for top marks you would need to do more than this.
