The best thing about this is that now all the private server players aching for that nostaglic hit will all be on one collective official server, which will boost numbers similarly to Korea's average daily population but hopefully by a lot LOT more since it's a global server. It's gonna be 2006 all over again baby and I can't WAIT to hop over 50 servers just to find an open KPQ spot. Side note but long time supporter here! Hope to see you on the server soon :)

This wasn't a video I was expecting to see on my recommended. Honestly there's always a feeling of wanting to get back into MapleStory, but the feel of the game now is completely different to the feeling I had growing up as a kid. Spending days to level once to just die and lose weeks of progress. Taking the boat in Ellinia and getting killed by Balrogs then exploring Orbis and going into the tower and getting stuck in El Nath requiring a rescue party of random people to escort me back up the tower. Spending time in the training grounds of Henesys just people watching. There's so many nostalgic memories I have that it would be nice to just revisit again even if it's for a short period of time since I no longer have the free time I did as a kid.
O heck yeah that it’s actually getting recommended in the algo already. 😮 & you nailed it, no way I could sink in the time I used to in the game, but would love to revisit. :D

The MapleStory nostalgia DOES be hitting hard recently. I haven't thought of the game for years and one random day recently I just really wanted to hear Lith Harbour's music, and I've been going down a rabbit hole of nostalgia ever since. And of course it's a little surreal to see a new spritefan2 video pop in this time as well 😂 been a fan since....well, pre-big bang!
what gets me is i'll just be watching some random youtubers vlogs or something, and they'll put maple music in the background. OOF the nostalgia train hits right then.
I’m excited to introduce Maple Worlds to my boyfriend who never played MS. This seems just so much more accessible because we can just play little mini games and mess around instead of hyper fixating on “getting stronger.” This is the ultimate Heneho version of MS, and I am sooooo here for it.
Honestly, trying to get my wife to get to atleast first job advancement with me since she never played MS either. 😂 I also love the cosmetic/social aspect of worlds.
I'll remain cautiously optimistic, this could have a lot of potential, but if playing oldschool private servers has taught my anything it's that old MapleStory had a lot of issues that make it difficult for me to enjoy these days. I WANT a version of oldschool that remedies most of my personal gripes with it, and currently I'm waiting on specific private servers for that, but MapleStory Worlds could potentially deliver something along those lines too without the concern of getting shut down. Official support alone may give it the numbers that most private servers just can't reach.
Good place to be, optimistic but skeptical. I do like the creator-driven approach of MSW, which should allow different devs to give their own takes, so there may be versions that work better/worse for some ppl. 👀 But time will tell.
classic maplestory with less frustrating scrolling, no HP washing, and better exp rates and drop rates to mitigate the old natured properties of mmos of the time being super grindy The biggest grip with modern maple is having to play 40 different classes to certain level thresholds to advance your main, and login DAILY to progress (and starforcing / potentials, who tf thought booming was a good game design choice?)
I tried playing maplestory recently and the game was unrecognizable. The skills take up the whole screen and I'm just mindlessly spamming buttons to clear the whole map. The old school MS was such a chill vibe and when you did get to that level to span map breaking skills it actually felt rewarding. I wish we had old school maple with like an EXP rate of like x5 so that we can still enjoy it without having to grind as much as we used to (I remember I spent 12 hours one day just grinding for lvl 70 from lvl 69)
Oh I didn't even know this was a thing. Man, remembering the old days of all the MMVs and all the other Maplestory made content back in the day makes me really think a lot could be done with this.

Thank you for creating this video Derek! It has been a very long time since I have shown any interest in MapleStory or Maple Animation. Unfortunately I have lost a lot of Maple Animation friends from 2007-2014 ( I am Abdul/ DotDot from Smash Mushroom Collab 1), I am still pretty interested and excited about how it will go. Still a bit cautious from a new thing from Nexon, as last time I got excited was for MapleStory 2, and we all know how that went... Also just like a lot of us back then I have gotten old and have sadly more responsibilities now. Although I will still check out this game, because MapleStory was a big part of my childhood and had a special place in my heart. Would have loved to meet you in LA, but a bit far for me ;). Have fun there and hopefully I might see you at Maple World!

slightly tweaked classic Maple + pqs coming with 4 sets of difficulties :)....friendlier scrolls...60%(+5 main stat) 77%(+3 main stat) and 100%(1 main stat)...special scrolls increasing success rate of 60% scrolls to 85%(special scrolls acquired by defeating powerfull bosses(weekly bosses)...that way its not whales targetted and make all player happy......all Hairs style available(once per week roll the FREE gambling machine for a chance to get the desired ticket with the hairs style you want(VIP), 1 out of 12 twelve tickets((like 20-30 hairs style will be in each of those tickets), once every 5 months hand out a super VIP ticket alloting to choose from the entire list of hairs style(acc bound & transferrable in storage)...when a player freshly start the world give them 1 super VIP ticket for the hairs, then every 5 months afterward give out nother for free........bosses in highter difficulty pq should be given new attacks(mechanics)......current existing bosses brought in to classic with modified HP pools and add skills that can only be use vs them(at least add a few skill only available for those boss(some dash to quickly dodge, and an skill)..both should be in the job 0 tab but only usable againts those bosses......some other tweaks which i think would be great to add in...flash jump for most classes, teleport upward with a slow fall(like fifth job blink but without the fifth job cooldown to teleport), boss ui, PQ ui, high mob density, bosses doing % dmg from undodgable attacks instead of just unfairly 1 shotting you due to lack of hp if can't be dodge, mind control can't drop a player bellow 1 hp if there is no healer(Bishop) in the group, Power Elixir for sale, ATT buffs items entirely removed, class buff skills only active for self(no cheesing, no hassle), Boss Expertise system, everytime you defeat a boss gain +0.5% dmg againts them(up to a maximum of 15% bonus if 30 kills was done againts it), pity system each time you fail to kill a boss 5 time(if you fought for at least 6 mins each time, gain +5% damage for your next attempts)(stack up to a maximum of 10% increase), Gear acquisition(lvl 1-90 gear acquire by completing Normal pq difficulty), (lvl 100-140 gear sets, acquired by defeating easy difficulty bosses), ..... Hard, Very Hard and Extreme PQ will reward(Rings, Necklaces,Earrings, Hearts, Ears Accessories(Elf Ear, Dog Ears, Rabbit Ears for example), Totems, Eyes Accessories, Face Accessories, Badges, Medals, Pockets, Tattoos, Auras, Pet(1 that attack enemies), and finaly a Weather effect(it change the map sky color and provide stats), players bellow X level wont get to see those weather effects..if multiplayers with a weather effect are in the same map only the weather which has more player with it will be display..lets say 3 green, 2 blue and 4 red.....in that case the red weather will appear....if its a tie between 2 color the sky will shift every 6 second between them.....the stats quality of the items will be base on the pq difficulty completed......Bosses will reward: Helms,Top,Bottom,Cape,Belt,Shoes,Gloves Shoulders and Emblems....just tossing it out there if you'd like some inspiration while creating your own world while also balancing it...other than that..looking forward to Dray making Maple Kombat world where we get to fight an epic battle with Manji XD

@@spritefan2 pop off...also i just posted the lower half of what i wrote here on NX forum but a version for retail(the part about those extra gear slots)....i'd be wasting the idea if i also didn't try to get NX on board :S(although knowing them probably not happening)....creativity and ideas is something that come to ease for me....but i dont have the patience and programming skills to make it myself..also i forgot to mention improved storage in my last post....even current retail feel like a 1990 design(which was due to limited databytes storage back then)....i played a game with like 6000 items worth of space(Phantasy Star Online 2)(lot of space for that 1 but could not organize perfectly)....and NX is still rolling on a 150 space storage :S....Diablo 2 isn't much better with storage space XD...i did propose NX a storage upgrade(shown them my design bout 2 months ago)....although i'd be surprise if they add it in...also i dont understand why not keep all cash items for sale..at least rotate them in every months instead of making them 4-7 years gaps or simply never bringing the items back(they loosing out on some easy bucks)
pre big bang maplestory was an era that I honestly doubt will ever be replicated in our lifetime. I'm so excited for this though... Nothing has come close to filling that void since.
Its crazy to me that they have all this evidence that people want a classic server; private servers, official most popular maple world games are classic servers, their (english) socials are being spammed with comments and they still do not make it themselves. I hope that once it releases in the west, everyone play the classic server maple world games and make the creators a lot of money.
Ikr. My guess why Nexon hasn't done it is that it's a resources/staffing issue. (skill issue lmao) Also, that they thought there would be more success in making a platform where other creators can do the tough labor of getting it off the ground. I also hope that this becomes fairly monetizable for creators, would be cool if this becomes a viable thing for folks :P.
Speaking of Mario Maker, I would love to see and play jump quests made with World, especially ones that incorporate skills like teleport and flash jump which are normally unavailable.

I love the idea of this! MapleStory might be the game I played the most in my childhood and will always hold a special place in my heart. I don't think I'll ever find the time to truely go back, but knowing so many will and are really makes me happy.

Haha, glad you found the channel! If you didn’t see my videos directly, I was featured in a LOT of other people’s videos too. I was the 2nd highest subscribed maplestory creator back in the pre-BB era, so I am recognizable to a specific chunk of OG maplers.
Really appreciate that! Yeah, that was a big motivation actually for making this video. I feel like others explained it in less succinct ways, also information was spread in various different places. So I tried my best to consolidate everything and explain it as quick as I could. Not too easy, I had to chop up the video a lot to reduce my own ramblings on it haha.

There’s a couple old school servers people play on it. One is to the T old school maple. One has tons of leveling events and extra stuff. And one is like 5x exp/7x drop/6x meso. The 2 “modified” ones have supposed plans to port to English, so here’s hoping

@@Mewkoh for sure. I think Maple Land is kind of a ‘purist’ server, but there are probably going to be other devs that seek to implement QoL changes and balances

I adapted and enjoyed modern maple through reboot and other various servers. I'm a seasonal gamer so my data means nothing to me, losing characters is typical season-end like PoE or the yearly CoD release. I recently went back to try and play old-school servers and I just can't do it anymore. The QoL that has hit MapleStory over the years, the faster and more fluid movement, the mobbing, it is just more fun to me. The bossing and solo gameplay style is what I don't like, feeling like you're playing singleplayer. I do hope, though, to re-create some of the old flash games from back then. I have a soft-doc written up for a few ideas, and hope I can bring them back for fun. Maple Worlds does indeed feel like we're going to enjoy ourselves.

I'm in those other 10%. I had my share of fun, rage, sweat and tears many times over in various old school private servers and now I'd like to move on and explore and some other "worlds". I have an idea to try to create a world or a game inspired by Warlock Brawl custom map for Warcraft 3 or auto chess.

TL;DR: We don't know! On the technical end, the devs in Korea could make a port very easily. However, it there is a lot of effort that would go into translation and management for the global version. And Mapleland hasn't announced anything yet, so unsure! People are speculating that it'll come eventually though.

Probably to some extent! Since the creators do need to recreate a lot of features to make it play more traditionally, I think it’ll be a lot more difficult to get running compared to a private server. So there will be a low quantity of worlds, and players will end up being more attracted to the ones that are the higher quality. So it might not be too bad..? But still pretty early to tell.
Honestly surprising to me that Nexon believes that Classic Maplestory (v.62 - v.83) wouldn't be popular. This fan made version is doing so well, Mapleroyals has done well for over 10 years. OSRS is one of the most popular MMOs of all time now, since the devs update it with new content without changing the core of the original gameplay. That's what a old school maple needs. IMO, v.83, add more classes over time (the other heroes, even modern classes redesigned to work in the old school style), and more content and boom. It'll probably be just as popular as OSRS and generate a ton of revenue.
emphasis on party and group progression would be huge. Getting people to be interested in the game is hard once they realize how much they HAVE to do to progress later in the game that they dont want to do. Most people have a couple of in game jobs they find appealing but dont want to play all 40 jobs eventually or the first 8 to 12 essential ones for progressing faster like mercedes if they dont like the feel of it. Just having a main and maybe a sub-main is enough Using public transportation was also nice as it made the game more social, the orbis sky ship was a classic, same with the subway. I still have vague memories of trading wins at monster PQ, or just sitting at henesys hunting ground, sitting instead of using potions because I was poor at the time, and since I was a kid, I didnt know how to spend or make mesos.
@@halinaqi2194 i dunno if they even need to go that far to hook players. Mapleroyals has a substantial playerbase, and OSRS despite being a time intensive and super grindy game is one of the most popular mmos out there. It'd be nice to be improved and implemented in an old school client, but it wouldn't be necessary, at least at launch imo. Better exp rates would be nice, though, 2-3x probably.

The MapleStory nostalgia DOES be hitting hard recently. I haven't thought of the game for years and one random day recently I just really wanted to hear Lith Harbour's music, and I've been going down a rabbit hole of nostalgia ever since. And of course it's a little surreal to see a new spritefan2 video pop in this time as well 😂 been a fan since....well, pre-big bang!

I’m excited to introduce Maple Worlds to my boyfriend who never played MS. This seems just so much more accessible because we can just play little mini games and mess around instead of hyper fixating on “getting stronger.” This is the ultimate Heneho version of MS, and I am sooooo here for it.
Honestly, trying to get my wife to get to atleast first job advancement with me since she never played MS either. 😂 I also love the cosmetic/social aspect of worlds.
I'll remain cautiously optimistic, this could have a lot of potential, but if playing oldschool private servers has taught my anything it's that old MapleStory had a lot of issues that make it difficult for me to enjoy these days. I WANT a version of oldschool that remedies most of my personal gripes with it, and currently I'm waiting on specific private servers for that, but MapleStory Worlds could potentially deliver something along those lines too without the concern of getting shut down. Official support alone may give it the numbers that most private servers just can't reach.
Good place to be, optimistic but skeptical.
I do like the creator-driven approach of MSW, which should allow different devs to give their own takes, so there may be versions that work better/worse for some ppl. 👀 But time will tell.
classic maplestory with less frustrating scrolling, no HP washing, and better exp rates and drop rates to mitigate the old natured properties of mmos of the time being super grindy
The biggest grip with modern maple is having to play 40 different classes to certain level thresholds to advance your main, and login DAILY to progress (and starforcing / potentials, who tf thought booming was a good game design choice?)
I tried playing maplestory recently and the game was unrecognizable. The skills take up the whole screen and I'm just mindlessly spamming buttons to clear the whole map. The old school MS was such a chill vibe and when you did get to that level to span map breaking skills it actually felt rewarding. I wish we had old school maple with like an EXP rate of like x5 so that we can still enjoy it without having to grind as much as we used to (I remember I spent 12 hours one day just grinding for lvl 70 from lvl 69)

Thank you for creating this video Derek! It has been a very long time since I have shown any interest in MapleStory or Maple Animation. Unfortunately I have lost a lot of Maple Animation friends from 2007-2014 ( I am Abdul/ DotDot from Smash Mushroom Collab 1), I am still pretty interested and excited about how it will go. Still a bit cautious from a new thing from Nexon, as last time I got excited was for MapleStory 2, and we all know how that went...
Also just like a lot of us back then I have gotten old and have sadly more responsibilities now. Although I will still check out this game, because MapleStory was a big part of my childhood and had a special place in my heart.

slightly tweaked classic Maple + pqs coming with 4 sets of difficulties :)....friendlier scrolls...60%(+5 main stat) 77%(+3 main stat) and 100%(1 main stat)...special scrolls increasing success rate of 60% scrolls to 85%(special scrolls acquired by defeating powerfull bosses(weekly bosses)...that way its not whales targetted and make all player happy......all Hairs style available(once per week roll the FREE gambling machine for a chance to get the desired ticket with the hairs style you want(VIP), 1 out of 12 twelve tickets((like 20-30 hairs style will be in each of those tickets), once every 5 months hand out a super VIP ticket alloting to choose from the entire list of hairs style(acc bound & transferrable in storage)...when a player freshly start the world give them 1 super VIP ticket for the hairs, then every 5 months afterward give out nother for free........bosses in highter difficulty pq should be given new attacks(mechanics)......current existing bosses brought in to classic with modified HP pools and add skills that can only be use vs them(at least add a few skill only available for those boss(some dash to quickly dodge, and an skill)..both should be in the job 0 tab but only usable againts those bosses......some other tweaks which i think would be great to add in...flash jump for most classes, teleport upward with a slow fall(like fifth job blink but without the fifth job cooldown to teleport), boss ui, PQ ui, high mob density, bosses doing % dmg from undodgable attacks instead of just unfairly 1 shotting you due to lack of hp if can't be dodge, mind control can't drop a player bellow 1 hp if there is no healer(Bishop) in the group, Power Elixir for sale, ATT buffs items entirely removed, class buff skills only active for self(no cheesing, no hassle), Boss Expertise system, everytime you defeat a boss gain +0.5% dmg againts them(up to a maximum of 15% bonus if 30 kills was done againts it), pity system each time you fail to kill a boss 5 time(if you fought for at least 6 mins each time, gain +5% damage for your next attempts)(stack up to a maximum of 10% increase), Gear acquisition(lvl 1-90 gear acquire by completing Normal pq difficulty), (lvl 100-140 gear sets, acquired by defeating easy difficulty bosses), ..... Hard, Very Hard and Extreme PQ will reward(Rings, Necklaces,Earrings, Hearts, Ears Accessories(Elf Ear, Dog Ears, Rabbit Ears for example), Totems, Eyes Accessories, Face Accessories, Badges, Medals, Pockets, Tattoos, Auras, Pet(1 that attack enemies), and finaly a Weather effect(it change the map sky color and provide stats), players bellow X level wont get to see those weather effects..if multiplayers with a weather effect are in the same map only the weather which has more player with it will be display..lets say 3 green, 2 blue and 4 red.....in that case the red weather will appear....if its a tie between 2 color the sky will shift every 6 second between them.....the stats quality of the items will be base on the pq difficulty completed......Bosses will reward: Helms,Top,Bottom,Cape,Belt,Shoes,Gloves Shoulders and Emblems....just tossing it out there if you'd like some inspiration while creating your own world while also balancing it...other than that..looking forward to Dray making Maple Kombat world where we get to fight an epic battle with Manji XD

@@spritefan2 pop off...also i just posted the lower half of what i wrote here on NX forum but a version for retail(the part about those extra gear slots)....i'd be wasting the idea if i also didn't try to get NX on board :S(although knowing them probably not happening)....creativity and ideas is something that come to ease for me....but i dont have the patience and programming skills to make it myself..also i forgot to mention improved storage in my last post....even current retail feel like a 1990 design(which was due to limited databytes storage back then)....i played a game with like 6000 items worth of space(Phantasy Star Online 2)(lot of space for that 1 but could not organize perfectly)....and NX is still rolling on a 150 space storage :S....Diablo 2 isn't much better with storage space XD...i did propose NX a storage upgrade(shown them my design bout 2 months ago)....although i'd be surprise if they add it in...also i dont understand why not keep all cash items for sale..at least rotate them in every months instead of making them 4-7 years gaps or simply never bringing the items back(they loosing out on some easy bucks)
pre big bang maplestory was an era that I honestly doubt will ever be replicated in our lifetime. I'm so excited for this though... Nothing has come close to filling that void since.

Its crazy to me that they have all this evidence that people want a classic server; private servers, official most popular maple world games are classic servers, their (english) socials are being spammed with comments and they still do not make it themselves.
I hope that once it releases in the west, everyone play the classic server maple world games and make the creators a lot of money.
Ikr. My guess why Nexon hasn't done it is that it's a resources/staffing issue. (skill issue lmao) Also, that they thought there would be more success in making a platform where other creators can do the tough labor of getting it off the ground.

There’s a couple old school servers people play on it. One is to the T old school maple. One has tons of leveling events and extra stuff. And one is like 5x exp/7x drop/6x meso. The 2 “modified” ones have supposed plans to port to English, so here’s hoping

I adapted and enjoyed modern maple through reboot and other various servers. I'm a seasonal gamer so my data means nothing to me, losing characters is typical season-end like PoE or the yearly CoD release. I recently went back to try and play old-school servers and I just can't do it anymore. The QoL that has hit MapleStory over the years, the faster and more fluid movement, the mobbing, it is just more fun to me. The bossing and solo gameplay style is what I don't like, feeling like you're playing singleplayer.
I do hope, though, to re-create some of the old flash games from back then. I have a soft-doc written up for a few ideas, and hope I can bring them back for fun. Maple Worlds does indeed feel like we're going to enjoy ourselves.

On the technical end, the devs in Korea could make a port very easily. However, it there is a lot of effort that would go into translation and management for the global version. And Mapleland hasn't announced anything yet, so unsure! People are speculating that it'll come eventually though.

It's going to be just like private servers. Everyone will divide and pick the one they like cause nobody can enjoy the same experience,
Probably to some extent! Since the creators do need to recreate a lot of features to make it play more traditionally, I think it’ll be a lot more difficult to get running compared to a private server. So there will be a low quantity of worlds, and players will end up being more attracted to the ones that are the higher quality. So it might not be too bad..? But still pretty early to tell.

Honestly surprising to me that Nexon believes that Classic Maplestory (v.62 - v.83) wouldn't be popular. This fan made version is doing so well, Mapleroyals has done well for over 10 years. OSRS is one of the most popular MMOs of all time now, since the devs update it with new content without changing the core of the original gameplay.
That's what a old school maple needs. IMO, v.83, add more classes over time (the other heroes, even modern classes redesigned to work in the old school style), and more content and boom. It'll probably be just as popular as OSRS and generate a ton of revenue.
Yeah idk what’s with Nexon’s strategy. I feel like RuneScape & WoW classic are good indicators that nostalgia does generate revenue. 🤷
emphasis on party and group progression would be huge. Getting people to be interested in the game is hard once they realize how much they HAVE to do to progress later in the game that they dont want to do. Most people have a couple of in game jobs they find appealing but dont want to play all 40 jobs eventually or the first 8 to 12 essential ones for progressing faster like mercedes if they dont like the feel of it.
Just having a main and maybe a sub-main is enough
Using public transportation was also nice as it made the game more social, the orbis sky ship was a classic, same with the subway.
I still have vague memories of trading wins at monster PQ, or just sitting at henesys hunting ground, sitting instead of using potions because I was poor at the time, and since I was a kid, I didnt know how to spend or make mesos.
@@halinaqi2194 i dunno if they even need to go that far to hook players. Mapleroyals has a substantial playerbase, and OSRS despite being a time intensive and super grindy game is one of the most popular mmos out there. It'd be nice to be improved and implemented in an old school client, but it wouldn't be necessary, at least at launch imo. Better exp rates would be nice, though, 2-3x probably.
