I’m in the South Dakota marching band and all I can say is this game was absolutely wild. We played the fight song four times straight louder than we ever have before. I’m still shaking from it.
I was in the NDSU marching band and we were along when we won at Iowa in 2016, the feeling of winning a big game at the last second is intense, either a big road game or an intense rivalry game at home.
It's like that sick interception that one player made, I believe it Oklahoma, earlier in the year but it was fourth down. They lost like 30 yards on the pick when he could have just knocked it down.
THIS, is why I only watch college ball! It has everything the NFL used to have. These young men play with heart and for the team, not got millions of dollars that often destroy their lives. The excitement of these kind of plays makes college ball the best! Congrats on a great and well played game. Just great ball!!!!!
Dude there is like a Hail Mary from a Wisconsin MSU game from like 2012 or 2011 and it’s a wild ending I was like seven and I remember it it was the craziest thing I’ve seen live
@Vivek Verma Home of unimportant things like Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the black hills national park, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the nation. Yeah it's pretty great, why do you ask?
Ever since that Michigan-Michigan State game everybody's afraid to punt in these late game 4th down situations but it still is usually the wise thing to do. Punt it for a touchback and that ball is on the 25 instead of the 45, making a Hail Mary impossible.
4th and 1 for South Dakota State with 8 seconds left leading by 3 points. There are so many better options than what they did. Just go for it. You have a great chance of getting the first down. Or punt out of the end zone. You might use up 8 seconds. But worst case they have one play from the 20 yard line. Or have your QB run backwards to his own end zone and instruct all of your players to tackle all of the defenders until the time runs out. If they get called for holding it’s no big deal because the game will be over. The worst choice is to try and throw an incomplete pass that uses only 7 seconds. Dumb decision.
Does college football have a rule like the NFL where multiple fouls result in a game-clock reset? In the NFL, in 2016, down 7 with about 15 seconds left, John Harbaugh tried something like that where he had his punter creep back to the end zone and had everyone hold a Bengal...the intentional safety gave Baltimore a 19-14 win, but the play was so ingenious that it was outlawed after the season.
@@AEMoreira81 They created an "unfair act" where if you do something so blatant then the Referee can basically do whatever he wants to fix it. They're instructed to put time back on the clock when that happens and charge everyone that held with unsportsmanlike penalties.
I love how even SDST fans are clapping... they just witnessed a football miracle. I’m sure there is a little salt there but they seem to respect that play. As a Michigan fan, there hasn’t been a play in football this year that has given me an adrenaline rush quite like that one.
How damn sad is that these "lower end" college football teams have incredible tv coverage with actual HD quality video and replay vs so many Division 1 teams.
The most unbelievable part of this for me is not the fact that the Hail Mary pass was completed, as that happens on occasion. What was truly astonishing was that it was fourth and one, and SDSU had a numbers advantage in the box. All they had to do was gain a single yard, and the game was over. The option they chose was riskier, and their QB needed to keep the ball in the field of play, but he couldn't do that, so they turned it over. The setup to the ending was more astonishing than the ending, b/c South Dakota never should have had the ball to begin w/.
John Harbaugh showed how that's done in the NFL...send in additional linemen and rush the ball. That said, the best way to not give the ball back...is to go 55 yards the wrong way for an intentional safety with the punt team.
Hahaha! Yesterday you delivered that crazy buzzer beater and now this. Great work, my friend! Keep bringing the crazy hilights. We’ll never get tired of it
I've actually seen this happen before. In 1987 when the 49ers vs Bengals and Cincy tried to run out the clock on 4th down to seal the win but they left 1 second on the clock. Next play, Joe Montana hit Jerry Rice with a Hail Mary to win it. I hope to find a video to that game somewhere on UA-cam. Incredible play by South Dakota!
Great ending! South Dakota Congratulations on a Fantastic Win! Also Congratulations to South Dakota State! Tough loss. This is why college football is so fun, never give up and so many exciting games! Thank you for sharing these ending.
This is a prime example of why the ball must NEVER be thrown on 4th down at the end of the game. It’s how the other team can get an untimed down (or 1 second left in this particular game) to potentially throw a Hail Mary and win the game. A play like this could also lead to an intentional grounding penalty.
The fact that north Dakota was at home makes it so much bettet! The students going crazy, this is definitely going to be the talk of the school all week long! What a great moment
South Dakota State could have sent out the punt team and had the punter run backwards toward the end zone until he took a safety with no time left. Game over, SD State wins 20-19.
