Up in the middle of the night trying to figure out if getting surgery is the right idea (surgery date really soon) thank you so much for this information. Super grateful!
Thank you sooo much for this, I have a 2 year old with strabismus & we have an appointment coming up & surgery is gonna be next. I’ve been super stressed about it & this gave me a much better understanding.❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the video 😊 I just had my surgery and now am recovering. It wasn’t easy! It is a struggle but..! I can see without diplopia!! I really hope my binocular vision stay with me forever 🥹
Thank you for such an excellent summary of the outcomes. You kept me from a lot of research. I am about 7 months away from surgery for esotropia that switches from one eye to the other, depending on which eye my brain chooses to use. It is a really long-term condition for which I only recently got decent diagnostic care. I wasn't looking for information out of fear, but out of curiosity about what to expect. Thank you again.
Extraocular Muscles can be damaged from toxics (fumes in the face, medication, hair Keratin fumes, Trauma) or from atropine drops used to dilate the pupil for optic nerve and retinal evaluation, also Cataracts and Glaucoma surgery causes temporary diplopia due to Muscles injury or weakness. In most cases >95% no 100% cure or full remission but the improvements are good.
I had strabismus surgery when I was a baby for esotropia in only my left eye. Over the years, I developed exotropia in that eye (my muscle was completely detached!) and I just got my second surgery at 36 years old. Wish I did it sooner and I hope it sticks but my eye is amblyopic and it didn't improve vision but we shall see! Love your channel❤
Hi I have same problem here but I never had a strabismus surgery before. I just see an optometrist today to get a referral to Opthamologist. She said the strabismus surgery will not fix the amblyopia and it will be a cosmetic surgery which means insurance will not cover it. Is that true? And I said I want to still meet Opthamologist. I want to hear what the ophthalmologist says..
My son (17 months)first procedure was botox. We had a follow after 3 weeks. His right eye moved from 20 to 12.. dont understand everything but there was improvement in straightness and how they work together. He also performed a lot better on vision picture card task. We are waiting to see if once the botox is out of his system the improvement remain. In the mean time we do patching. We have a follow-up to see our options. Im glad i came across this resource
I developed exotropia in my late 20's.. Eye Doctors said Weak Eye Muscles was the causes. Started getting double vision in early 30's and had Prisms added to my glasses.. Started at 2BI in each eye at 31, I'm now 43 and have 8 Prisms in each eye. I'd like to avoid surgery, but eye docs have said the max amount of prism they can likely put in each lense is about 10. What is the current script in your glasses?
I am 81 years old I came down with Nonhodgkins Lymphoma cancer 14 months ago. My first symtom was esotophiaa Stabismus. My radiologist told me my C6 nerve had been damaged by the cancer. Later, I discovered I could read clearly with both eyes. Still have double vision at a distance. Do you think Strabismus surgery would be successful for me?
so i was born with exotropia in my left eye it usually only drifts when im tired or ill always notice it in photos or if im turned in a weird way. i have been looking into the surgery. at my consult i was told they would need to do both eyes and i was curious why that might be since the other eye does not have strabismus?
Adults exotropia has around 73% success rate, but what about adults intermittent exotropia who had born with this condition, is the success rate still higher?
4 surgeries, radiation, and hip Necrosis from prescribed steroids. Please do your research. My experience is that the surgeries' success is not long-lived for adults. They often require further surgeries, which leads to tissue scarring, which limits movement. Hopefully, more research in this field will lead to better outcomes. There's nothing wrong with wearing a patch.
I have intermittent exothropia, i have no double vision and see well he said he will be working with one muscle each eye and 6 is the measurement for each idk 6mm or exactly what that means, he also said he does not believe in adjustable sutures...my surgery is feb 1st 2024 im very scared and scared of over correcting..im 33yrs old and was born with this condition. What are your thoughts?
Hey! Idk how it turned out for you since my son (2) has this condition as well. He showed first intermittend exotropia when he was only 9 months old. Doctors say we should wait but he is now manifest at distance. He uses both eyes together at near. I am very scared for him and his future and would like to know from someone who has experience with this. Thanks a lot in advance!
When strabismus comes on later in life, the success rates for surgery are usually higher. You are welcome to schedule a consult with me and we can discus your options. strabismussolutions.com/consult/
I had undiagnosed diplopia before trauma (orbital fracture and muscle entrapment) which resulted in an eye turn, exotropia. I had surgery a few months later. Its been 2 years since surgery. Stull have that eye turn and double vision is the worst thing ever. I don't have access to vision therapy in my country have checked😢😢 and continue checking. You did mention in one of your videos that diy didn't do much for you, until you worked with a specialist. What do you suggest?
Did you have adjustable sutures on all 4 or your surgeries? I just had my surgery about 1 week and a half ago for esotropia. I can still notice my eye does go in, hopefully with time it will get better, but I might need another surgery. I did not have adjustable sutures. I’m 34 years.
I only had adjustable with the last surgery. Many surgeons don't use the method. Good luck with the recovery. Have you done any vision therapy, it might be able to help get the eyes the rest of the way straight. Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
That depends on the angle your eye turns and how often it turns. Are you able to keep it straight most of the time? How long has it been a problem? There are so many factors. You should schedule a consult with me and I could help you figure it all out! strabismussolutions.com/consult/
i have exotropia and my eyes were like that for a long time where they would be straight in the mirror and then mess up when looking away. now after some years, my eyes are not as straight anymore when looking in the mirror... not horrible but definitely noticeable to me and everyone else can see that my eyes have been getting worse. im getting eye surgery in a few weeks to hopefully fix this problem because it is something I've been dealing with pretty much my whole life and don't want things to get any worse.
Can we go to the gym after the surgery? How long do you think it is okay to rest after the operation before lifting again? Is it dangerous to hit the gym?
I got alternating esotropia when I was 26. it hit me out of nowhere and double vision Is annoying. I'm researching for surgery but I'm afraid of the side effects.
@@strabismustostereopsis7799 what was it before your last surgery? Mine is 35 surgery in a month I’m excited but so nervous thank you so much for this video
@@Ambers_Team I was also 35 exo before surgery. Right after I was 8 eso at near and 15-18 eso in the distance. Vision Therapy has helped with the alignement.

Did they do it based on your glasses ? Cuz my doctor said we doing it based on his glasses and I don’t understand why??

I really didn’t think adjustable sutures were that bad! Fun, no, but I don’t know, I’ve definitely had worse medical procedures.
You must be tougher than me....but that isn't saying much because I'm a huge baby. lol

hello, do you offer consultation over a video call? because i live in turkey so i can't do a face to face visit.
A curious questin for many ppl like me,. can intermittent exotropia in the strong eye not the strabismic eye be solved with vision therapy?
Definitely! It is usually the easiest type of strabismus to fix with vision therapy.
It is use full can u tell me after surgery eye exercises is important ?
Exercises can help the brain use both eyes which will keep them more straight for sure!

Yes. I have had 4 surgeries and both eyes were operated on in each surgery. This isn't true for everyone though.
