I am from Scotland, I grew up in a small village, it was the best life I could have ever had but we moved away when I was a teenager, we migrated. It is truly amazing living in those small tight communities where life is simple and everyone cares about each other.
I just saw in the documentary on UA-cam that the film was supposed to end on the balcony but the studio thought it was too bleak. Filming was over but Bill Forsyth found they had a clear shot of the (fake) telephone box, dubbed a ringing telephone over it - and the rest is history. The audience was thus empowered to create their own ending. Oh, and Peter Capaldi said he never saw any mermaid tail...
Even at that young age, Peter Capaldi ran "like a penguin with its arse on fire"!! Foreshadowing his future role as the Twelfth Doctor 30 years in the future!!!
It is a film of stlwart quality. the characgers are whoely realized without sacrificing their orignality. It si a film that is born out of time and exists in the deepest part of your soul if you are lucky. I remain steadfast in its life and love of all things magical. Booyah.
The beach and the village are about 160 miles apart in real life 😂. Hardly notice until you note that the harsh North Sea looks nothing like the gentle island-sheltered Atlantic
so the gone Far left is now abusing this film as a before it's time on the Climate Change Fear agenda they are pumping for their empowerment/ makes me Really appreciate the Movie Animal HOUSE!

Did you sell-up to an oil baron? 😅
"and everyone cares about each other." Oh god can you re-teach it to my family?
A really wonderful film. One of my top favourites. Whimsical, romantic but not mawkish at all, there’s nothing to touch it.
The best theme music ever

I like to think a little bit of Stella fell in love with MacIntyre, though she would never have allowed herself to follow through with it.
3:30 Been there! So upsetting, losing the beauty of 24 hours before in Scotland and real people.
I was slightly drunk when I typed my comments.

The actual ending is MAC..returned and married the punk chick..
1:19 Definitely a mermaid, I swear to God.
