  • Each of the guys imagine different vehicles when talking about Jeeps, so they drive this one to discover what benefit or detriment the hybrid system brings to a Trail Rated Grand Cherokee. Should buyers consider this alternative, or is it still too early for off-road hybrids to be any good?

    I dig the passenger screen idea for road trips. Like, passenger finds waypoints and pushes it to the drivers nav. Love that idea.

    Finally something in a vehicle that allows the passenger to get the answer to the burning question “are we there yet”, without having to distract the driver! Great review guys!

    You guys have the best explanation on why this 4XE set up works well. I have not heard until this review that even when the battery is low, there will still be contributing electric motor torque adding to the 4 cyl, so you will never just be on 4 cyl turbo power alone. I hate the idea of a little engine in a heavy jeep.
    That said, as a performance car enthusiast who owns a manual C5 Corvette and also enjoys well designed internal combustion engines, this is not my thing. I bought a Explorer ST which I actually enjoy driving. Even after I get right out of the C5. The 3.0 ecoboost is a great set up and that SUV in general I have been really impressed with. I wish Jeep would put their new Hurricane turbo I6 in this new GC and GCL. For those that tow and like the utility aspect of jeeps, that would add a large increase in capability without needing the added complexity, weight, and expense of the hybrid powertrain.
    Having a family with two young kids, and a couple of expensive hobbies, I'm not at a place in life where I can afford this GC hybrid. It's just too much $$$ for what it is, but I absolutely get the appeal. For me I will continue enjoying my relatively fun to drive ST which gets better gas mileage than the 3.6 pentastar and way more power and torque than the 5.7 hemi.
    Keep up the good work guys. I really enjoy your vids. You've got the pulse of legit car enthusiasts for sure.

    Quick correction on the comment about the weight of the Cayenne E-Hybrid, I believe you may have accidentally quoted the gross weight. According to google, the GC 4xe weighs in at 5,325 lbs. in its lightest form. By comparison, Porsche quotes the Cayenne E-Hybrid at 5,164 lbs. on their website. Rest easy Paul, Porsche wins again:)

    Great review guys. i have a 2023 GC 4xe Base Model with Luxury Group II. MSRP of $66K. Tax credit of $7500 used by Stellantis as cap cost reduction on lease was very helpful. Dealer gave some love too. I did not buy the car for fuel efficiency. I deserve demerits for that. I got the power set up for just that. Power. Here's the best part. You do not have to plug this car in. That's right. You can if you are into hyper mileage but you don't have to. In hybrid mode the power is modulated by the computer. If you accelerate hard it grabs both the gas and electric systems and is much quicker than the Hemi. That's off off the line, on-ramp acceleration or passing. If you run the car in e-Save, set the e-Save mode to recharge it recharges very efficiently as you drive. Using max re-gen helps a bit too. If you accelerate aggressively in e-Save it grabs both the gas and electric systems and it takes off as well or even better than in E-Hybrid mode. I have 2500 miles on the car and I have yet to plug it in. I toggle back and forth between E-Hybrid and e-Save and that's it. The car is fast.

    I own a 2018 Overland Diesel and just test drove the 22 new body Overland, way way too much candy, and after discussions with several Crylser service departments and dealer mechanics, they already are software update nightmares (a big problem with Jeep GC anyways still dealing with the Sirius Guardian update but there working out with 1 more recall to deal with ) ...my 2018 overland diesel is tighter more sold drive and with a tighter turn radius, and runs like a champ, in my opinion (the bi-monthly exhaust clean out is a wee pain). In my opinion with a side-by-side comparison 2018 is more masculine and cleaner it's a Grand Cherokee, not a Land Rover, I had no clue why the Salesman emphasized the point that it was modeled after one. Mind you the massage seats were very very nice the Macintosh speakers as well. Downside the dropped a couple of the apps in the interface I use but again a personal thing.
    I was offered a good deal on my 2018 only 72k Can and on trade in was offered between 50k and 64k Canadian at the 78k best deal for the 22 Overland at the dealerships I visited, which made me smile. The 22 new body is nice but I can wait I can I own a very nice Overland anyways...

    14:45 IRL, charging via 120V, taking 14 hours is just fine. I could count on one hand the number of times being able to charge in 2 hours would have had a significant effect on the usefulness of this platform. In most cases I use up the battery, charge it overnight and am ready to go the next day, OR, I'm making a long trip where I won't be home to use the 2 hour charger, anyway. And like many batteries, that first 75% charge takes about as long as the last 25%, so even if you exhaust the battery and charge 120V for 4-5 hours, you get some decent miles out of that.

    Big question, the Wrangler 4xe has been highly criticized for the hybrid jerkiness. Was it fixed in this one?

    • @stefanpetrut1
      @stefanpetrut1 Рік тому +4

      The hybrid jerkiness on a wrangler 4xe isn't as bad as they say. I have one and you have to slightly re-train yourself how to drive. The biggest issue is in "Hybrid" mode and going past where the ecu deems acceptable for battery only power. At that pint the transmission has to downshift, engine has to kick on and match the revs to the speed your going, and then transfer that power to the road. No hybrid is good at this, which is the biggest issue with them from a driving standpoint. Once you learn where that limit is, or start using the other modes (Electric and Esave) for their intended uses, it's a lot better.

I know many people who when they got the car, they installed a 240 volt charger in the garage or in the driveway, and use that to charge. And the ones that didn't, they just come home, and plug it in to the 120 outlet, and it charges until they have to leave the next day, and it just gets whatever amount of charge they could get, and the majority of their commute is still all electric.

      Just because they don't specifically say something doesn't mean that you can't infer information. Paul says 14 hours at 120/110. If you charge it halfway for 7 hours and have a 10 mile roundtrip to work then you should be able to be all electric. The average commute mileage is roughly 40 miles. Paul gave the most relevant statistic for most people (many who probably assume 25 mile range means quick charges even with a regular outlet). Yes, people can do exactly what you said, but they never said something to refute any of what you said (and 2h20m is stated in the video at 220 - funny you missed that). Baseless attacks are sad.
