Our local animal shelter collects PT and TP rolls for the gerbils and mice to sleep or play in. They also collect empty tissue boxes for small animal nesting. They also make a great playhouse for the smaller animals.
I love this idea because we throw away way too much stuff. Before I throw away anything I try to see if there’s another use for it. For instance, before throwing away old clothes, I remove buttons, zipper, snaps etc. I use cardboard boxes as landscape material under mulch to prevent weeds and empty pill bottles, to store flower seeds, needles, those spare buttons and other small stuff. Now I can add this to my list of recycled items. I never thought of a use for toilet paper rolls. Thanks for the info.
I have Many people saving toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls for me because I am a worm farmer! I run them through my Shredder and make tiny crinkled pieces out of them and use them as bedding for my worms. It is also food for my Worms! This is a very good video. I will subscribe. One thing I like about it is that you are speaking in English and explaining what you're doing. You're not hurrying like others do!!!!!!! Thank you so much
If you consider your empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls clean enough, you might use them to help dry out the interior of reusable rubber gloves by inserting them inside damp gloves to increase air circulation.
If hoarding Empty rolls of various sizes from TP,paper towels, foil, etc etc and actually using them, was an Olympic sport…. My mother would be scooting away with the gold medal. I think she would deserve another one just for creativity! She used them for nearly everything this video mentioned plus some. She crocheted and used them to wind her yarn on and she also crocheted candles and then would be slipped over the rolls. When moving, they were an absolute must as much as boxes and tape. I swear there wasn’t anything she couldn’t come up with. She had a tall hamper sitting by back door for everyone (including guests) to umm “donate” to her obsession.😂
While DJ'ing for years, I somehow ended up with hundreds of different kinds of cords that just made me nuts trying to find the one I need. When I saw the video months ago about TP rolls, it was like a gift from above. Now every single cord of various types is secure and orderly in TP rolls. Great idea!
I used them in a shoe box to mail small plant cuttings to a friend;. Drop the cutting into the roll, pack the rolls upright in the box & cushion around it w/ paper or packing peanuts. The roll / tubes protects the cuttings from getting squished in the mail. The recipient, a fellow plant person, loved it & the cuttings arrived well protected.
10:36 pm, I’ve used them as fillers when packing for a move. Sometimes you just need a little something as a filler for an empty space. The great thing is that you can vary the strength by varying the amount of paper used inside, they can even be used unfilled depending on the need of the space.
I've been prepping TP rolls for planting seeds this Spring, but instead of taping them, I am fitting them into my daily yogurt cups that would otherwise just be recycled. What I like about this idea is that I can just cut the rolls down the side instead of potentially stressing the plant when removing it from one pot or cell pack and replanting it into the garden beds. I figure by the time the plant is ready for the garden the cardboard will be ready for the compost too. I have a hard time moving the hose around sometimes so I already leave the small yogurt cups near new plants to catch rain or overspray from the hose and then I use that to water plants that need more frequent watering than the more established plants - always with a twig or leaf in them though so lizards and other beneficial critters won't drown in them when they also want a drink of water.
With the exception of seedling pots and bird feeders, your ideas are good ones. I found the seedling pots just deteriorated way before I could set out them out in the garden and if one did make it to the garden, it would hinder the roots. I’ve seen a bird choke on a toilet roll. One of the most useful applications of these rolls is as collars for newly planted seedlings protecting them from cut or wire worms.
I find them great for my vegetable seedlings as as vegetables grow fast they do not deuterate too early and I put a slash down the side of the toilet roll and take them out (depending on the veg) of there when putting my seedlings into the permanent positions
Wonderful ideas! Thank you! I do worm composting. The worms love to make moistened TP rolls their home. Once the rolls decompose, the worms eat them. 🐛💚😍💚🐛
I've been using tp tubes for cord storage for several decades. I cover them with packing tape to strength them. Lately, I'm feeding them through a crosscut paper shredder and adding them to the garden for the worms.
@@joanbaczek2575 No, the curling iron isn’t hot enough to do that once it’s turned off. At least mine isn’t. I unplug it and immediately it begins to cool. I wouldn’t recommend putting an iron that is still on into a tp roll.
When our Maltese dog was a puppy she used to shred the empty rolls- - -AFTER she pulled all the paper off and strung it through the house! I use many of the ideas and am currently using them to organize ribbons etc for crafting. I love the wrapping paper idea and the bird feeder idea. Thanks!
I use those rolls when I pack small items such as mini toy cars, figurines, or costume jewelry, especially for shipping in a larger box. Wrap the item in tissue paper or paper towel, insert into roll and bingo...a neat container to prevent damage. Also useful to protect projecting parts of larger pieces in shipment.
That Firestarter tip is a good idea, you get to use both the cardboard and lint instead of throwing in the rubbish. I wonder though once the fire gets going, will it smell like laundry because of the lint?
A note on another use for rollers. If you can get your hands on those huge cardboard rollers that are used for rolls of fabric in fabric stores, you can use them for storage to roll doilies, table runners, small table cloths and other linens so there is no crease/fold mark on the cloth. Then cover with plastic or an old sheet.
For the fire starting one, if you take a candle that you have at home and melt it and then pour it in the tube with the dryer lint, you will be more likely to have a good fire because when you start TV roll on fire, and you just have the lint without anything, the lint will burn fast so there's no guarantee that your fire is going to take. But if you have wax all throughout that and within your toilet or your lint dryer lint, it stays lit on fire longer so giving your campfire a better chance of starting
I am a quilter and have lots of fabrics. To avoid creases I roll my fabrics and slip the tubes over them to keep them crease free and tidy. It makes looking through my stash easier as well.
I am an artist trained in basic conservation practices, and a quilter, too. Please don't leave your fabrics in contact with the toilet paper rolls for more than a month or two. Brown paper is acidic and becomes more acidic as it ages. This acid will migrate into your fabrics and discolor them, pretty quickly in fact. Best wishes.
Good video. For the firestarters, I've been doing something similar. I keep putting folded up rolls into 1 roll that stays unfolded. When there are enough to keep them tight so as to not fall out, use a serrated blade to cut into discs. Then add some lint AND petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Put them into a good storage because they're messy.
According to my experience, the empty roll of toilet paper is excellent for sliding onto the handle of a hot pan and holding it from there. (Obviously for this you have to squeeze the paper roll and it will deform, but who cares?). Because it is an excellent heat insulator! One such paper ball can be used dozens of times before it is completely destroyed, I say this from my own experience! And it is much more convenient to use this than to wrap a towel around the handle of the baking pan on occasion, or to always put special plastic gloves on our hands.
Years ago a girlfriend of mine was getting married. I made her gown and her veil. I used an empty oatmeal box and cut it down, covered it with the fabric from her gown and gathered veil fabric and sewed it in to tighten it. It was gorgeous and so was her gown.
For small gifts. Fold the ends into the centre, put in gift. Fold opposite end in. Wrap with wasabi tape and label for the person to receive the gift. Thanks for ALL these great ideas.
You can also cut them in sections paint them and use for napkin rings. Make a summery design for a barbeque or Christmas dinner you can paint them green and red or even put stickers on them 😊🎄☃️ 🌞 🌊

For the wrapping paper keeper you can use the very same tube to cut your paper with most types of paper. It makes a nice even cut. For the fire starters I've added wax from burned out candles then wrapping in advert paper. I love these for cord keepers and have them on things like my clothing iron and slow cooker. If a cord won't stay put in the tube just cut a slit and slide the plug into it and there you have it.
I saw some doco on Toilet seats & why they should be closed when you flush . If you flush with the toilet seat up , Micro bacteria would spread around the room . I believe they said that there was bacteria on the tooth brushes , so one could assume that the toilet rolls would have a fair bit of bacteria on the inside of the roll . I don't think I would be using toilet rolls around food or Kindy / pre school . Just saying .
Gray or brown cardboard tubes make THE BEST COMPOST. I have an office shredder so I just cut the tube and send it through the shredder. Put it on the bottom of the pot or plastic tray. It holds water and by next year, it falls apart and becomes soil.

I use TP a rolls in my art. I stuff them with shredded paper, top and bottom them with cardboard and put either animal pictures or stickers along with either beads, or borders or gem stickers and I put a topper on it which can be anything. Then I like to put them on a shelf or window sill. I even have a couple Halloween ones I made. I think I have about 10 so far. Or I’ll unroll the TP roll, cut it in strips, paper punch, cut through he middle and I have TP roll borders I can paint. Or I’ll take the roll and paper punch and use the punches on my art. And my favorite is using the roll after tin foil is gone. I cut them down and make several pieces from that roll. And Since it’s stiff I don’t have to stuff them just top and bottom with cardboard.
I just watched this very wonderful video again. I also sent it off to three people that I don't think I sent it to last time. But maybe I did. They can watch it again! It was good! I do have another idea for you. I have some remote holders which are wonderful to have, But some narrower things fall down in the areas. I don't just have remotes in these holders of course!. I have 3 of them on tables to the left and right of my recliner. I cut toilet paper rolls the height of each of the areas that I wanted to have certain things in. Then I painted them all black and stuck them in the spots to totally fill up each area... It keeps things from falling down and they don't even show if you paint them black. I wish I could send you a pictures but I don't have an email address. It's hard to explain how to do it.
You can also throw them into you garden in fall and they will be broke down before spring planting. The worms love it so much I swear they call their friends.

I don’t have any toilet paper inners. My canine lavatory monitor insists upon taking full and immediate custody, of all empty rolls! She keeps a serious watch on my usage, to insure that I’m using sufficient !!! Every few months I have to confiscate her collection. All carefully flattened and stored behind her bed.🙄
I must admit the hygiene of using empty toilet rolls has me a bit perplexed, mainly because you haven’t washed your hands when you’re using and handling them.

Regardless , As with the ' rolls' , there are MANY re - uses ! . . 👋👋 GOOD Health & Vitality to YOU And Yours ! 💪💪 UNITED WE STAND ! 🎯🥊🥊
Toilet roll cardboard inners are absolutely jam packed full of germs. just think of where they have been! Great idea keep your kitchen knives in the inners.............really!! Please use kitchen roll inners etc or similar xx Jean from Scotland.
@dianem7677 Toilet roll has holes in either side of the inner and all the germs go in there as well as on the toilet roll holder and the acual toilet paper. There was a scientific test done to show you where germs are in the toilet and that was really high on the list just below the the flush handle.
You could also use them to make your curtains more rounded instead of triangle by taking TP roll and a pin. Put them in the fold of the curtain to make it more fuller.
Oh yeah I really want to put the knife that I cut up food with into a former toilet paper holder. Nothing like something that has been in your bathroom and is inindated with fecal matter holding that knife.

Just like any cardboard product it can also be mulched up with water and compressed into a "log" that could be burned for heating.

@@charles-ingvarjonsson7554 that would be messy and pretty much counterproductive! Thanks for your comment though. Lol!
They are great at the back of a drawer. The drawer dividers never fit and always slide backward, but paper towel tubes keep them tucked up tight!

They come in handy for making coil forms, D size battery cases. My first crystal radio's main coil used a toilet paper coated in shellac. worked fine.

A

Our dog is the same lol
I must admit the hygiene of using empty toilet rolls has me a bit perplexed, mainly because you haven’t washed your hands when you’re using and handling them.
Lol so does my Chi .
Lint is ALSO a great source of Nesting material for ' birds ' to assist in building
cozy nesting . Save for friend or neighbor , Anyone that may have a ' Feeder '.
Regardless , As with the ' rolls' , there are MANY re - uses ! . . 👋👋

I like the one on clothes hangers especially for rayon blouses
My cat loves empty toilet paper tubes.
I was worried at first but then I found some really good hacks in this vid 😊
Thanks
These are also great for pairing socks. Panties or grocery sacks
Oh yeah I really want to put the knife that I cut up food with into a former toilet paper holder. Nothing like something that has been in your bathroom and is inindated with fecal matter holding that knife.
No kidding! How freakin’ gross!
