I don't like the idea of a dreadnought wielding weapons seperate from its' body, it's inefficent, it has no use for hands it makes the dreadnoughts design more complex and more difficult to maintain. Dreadnought power claws or seige drills all the way.
But where is my Alpha Legion Leviathan? Of the current list, the Dark Angel Leviathan is my favorite. It's just extra enough to be cool, but streamlined enough to not be obnoxious
gadzilla 666 I think if the artist had painted as more of a fresh corpse with blood and gore and some massive bullet holes in it, it would fit in better.
Big fan of the space wolves contemptor and that dark Angel Leviathan is tops also. I concur it's the subtle touches that make it stand out so much better than the others.
The White Scars one is so tacky, worst one IMO. I like the normal one the most honestly, it looks so rugged and industrial that it fits its role quite well. Being a well dressed siege breaking dred is not cool IMO
Very nice models. My favorite is the Dark Angels one as well; I like the arch design around the midriff guns and helmet area and the heater shields for kneecaps that sort of recess into the shin guards are a nice touch. The edges being hemmed in with bare metal reinforcements tie it all in. There's enough bare space left over that you could easily add some extra iconography bits if you wanted but it's quite striking as it is. I like the Death Guard/original too.
I’d love to see an Ultramarines Leviathan Dreadnought. The contemptor is drop-dead gorgeous so I can’t wait to see a leviathan. On the other hand I kinda hate leviathan dreads, they’re just too powerful
Those rectangular parts on the Night Lords Leviathan are supposed to be tarot cards. The Night Lords legion has a thing for divination due to their primarch being all obsessed with the future and he's described having tarot cards with him a couple of times in the Horus Heresy books about him. However, I've never understood why Forgeworld likes putting those on some of those Night Lord dreadnoughts, as nobody ever seems to know what they are supposed to be, including the FW painters themselves apparently. It's also just kind of weird to try to mix those cards in with the overall aesthetic of horrifying trophies the Night Lords tend to decorate themselves with.
I think you should keep going on this project even if you take a break from it, P.S. love your content it always makes me see the world through a different set of eyes, thank you SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok dumb question time , I apologise in advance. I really want to add the Night lords leviathan to my ever growing night lords army but does it not come with any arms at all? I have looked all over forgeworld for arms for it but also can't find them, where can I get arms for it? Thanks in advance for any help yall can give me!
Simple solution: I have several different types in my Deathwatch Elite Leviathan group. Paint with chapter details, but with a silver arm (magnetised). Bingo awesome centerpieces.
Of the ones currently available, probably Night Lords, their dreadnoughts look fucking sick (and yes, that makes you wrong). Dark Angels is also rad. But idk, we don't have one for all the legions yet, so it's hard to make a proper judgement just yet.
No Leviathan is the actual worst as they're all big beautiful boys! It's the just the least good, which is still better than every other type of Dreadnought lol
This is quite a difficult task you ask. Rank them based on their look... Okay without knowing the actual combat abillities here is my ranking: least aka 3rd: all that are not above, for various minor reasons. 2nd: the Dark Angel one. 1st: the Blood Angel one. So the reason why I sort them in that order is based on their look and their weapons. Since both Angel versions have a little bit "more beef" than the others they win compared to them. But what gives the Blood Angel version the little extra is the secondary weapon. Flamers might work fine in the game, but I prefer the look of the storm cannons in the body. I also prefer the left arm of Cullen the Risen above all others, but since the overall look of the model does not come close to the Angel ones, its stuck behind them. But it will take some time until I get me one of those beauties for my Space Marines. (Wallet says no!)
when i was in the UK last year i went to forgeworld, just after the first releases of the blood angels things (mid february), and they had the pictured levi in their display case, it is so much better in person. I thought the paint scheme was a bit bright and over the top on the website, but in person its the best thing I've ever seen painted by gw/fw. Gold is perfect (to me in the picture it looks unrealisticly bright), the red is transitional blend all over and not as bright. Whoever painted it did a fantastic job. For me the photo lighting white wash them a bit too much and detail which wouldnt stand out normally (like the helmet grill) isnt as prominent. otherwise all levis are great (lose the body on the nightlord one and id snap it up in a flash)
The base Leviathan. Culln is cool but the standard one is just beautiful in its simplicity, the others are way too overloaded with detail. That seems to have become be a running theme with Forge world releases. IDK, I feel like Forge World has “lost” something. The older stuff just... looks better, the way they are painted, the little details and overall the designs were sooooo cool. For example, the Fellblade, Sicaran and Spartan range of tanks look amazing, then there’s the Aquitor AKA backwards Sicaran which is just... meh...
Has to be the Dark Angels one for me and then followed by the original one. But for weapons i love the twin linked assault cannon and claw you get with the Red scorpions leviathan Carab culln the risen but not going to buy one just for them, hoping they bring out more weapon options like the twin linked assault cannon or a plasma cannon and volkite cannon.
Honestly I agree on the Dark Angels dreadnought, he's a Thiccc boi that needs "ARNOLDNATOR" painted all over the front & then equip it with ALL THE GUNS for maximum effect. It doesn't NEED to STAY a Dark Angels unit, but I bet if you drop this Thuger Trucker on top of your opponents lead unit the SALT harvest would be impressive.
There is a reason that this model was so smooth to put together: it was invented and produced on Terra, by real scientists, and not on Mars by techno cultists *wink*
Nightlords one: I cannot get past the random corpse. It looks so janky. Also the paint job on it looks too clean. Who cleaned down the torso before bolting it to the front?
Love the Leviathan, Unlove how expensive and unequalled it is compared to anything similar that's available (nothing compares to one with 2 Storm Cannons, period)
Going to have to go with the Dark Angels one for the alternates. That front view makes it seen a lot bigger and more imposing than the others. I kind of like the OG the most though. It's just a simple wreaking ball of a war machine without any ornamentation distracting you. Not a fan at all of the Edward Gein Leviathan, but NL iconography really isn't my thing.
I just want a really flamboyant Emperor's Children one so I can stop kit bashing and converting one to look like it should be in the Legion before the Fall. Mixing 3 different leviathans is getting quite expensive lol.
The BA head suffers from poor 'readability' - I had to stare at it for a few seconds just to realize it had 2 eyes. 40k models can be hard to 'read' at a distance when the head sculpt is busy, obscured, or turned and this suffers from all 3. I've noticed this with some of the Ravenguard heads and currently on a Rogue Trader era Techmarine head I'm working on, I'm sure it's across all ranges.
I'm waiting for the most obvious fucking one you'd think of. Iron Hands. I mean, come on, a lot of these boys dream of being interred in a dreadnought. It's an absolute honour. It's the pinnacle of their entire chapter dogma. But no, White Scars got one. Not to say they shouldn't get one mind you. Just, come on.
